Oldblivion is a piece of software which allows graphics cards which are pre DirectX9 to run Elder Scrolls: Oblivion from Bethesda. This means that Oblivion can run on cards such as Geforce 3, Geforce 4, Radeon 9200 and so on. Oldblivion is still in an early development phase, but it's fairly stable. However, there still are a few bugs and kinks to work out.

Here it is running on a Geforce 3 64 MB standard edition, 1.5 Ghz AMD Athlon, 512 MB RAM by asp.

Installation:

This is something people have mentioned they cannot understand so i took the liberty of writing it up in my own words

1) Extract the files from the zip is comes in
2) Place the following files in you oblivion directory where the oblivion.exe is located:

Config.exe
oldblivion.cfg
oldblivion.dd
oldblivion.exe

3) Now back up you Oblivion.ini file located in My Documents/My Games/ Oblivion

4) Now add the new oblivion.ini to My Documents/My Games/ Oblivion
if it asks to overrite say yes

5) Place the files in the spel fix folder into Oblivion/Data/Meshes

6) Place the shader file here Oblivion/Data/shaders/

7) Run oldblivion.exe

Unitstall

Delete the files mentioned above and place the backup ini file into your games directory explained above.

Eh... in that link he provided? Big Grin

Errr.... or here.
Don't get tooo excited

It didn't work for me (not saying it won't work for anyone else)

Its primary function is to allow you to play OB if your computer does not support the 2.0 shaders

Also requires modifcation to the ini. files which needs to be done manually even after all that, it did the same thing it always does...shuts down Sad

And most likely it is due to this rediculously poor, stupid, irritating, Intel Graphics X(

Bob
It doesn't support patched versions if that helps....
Well i never said it was a perfect solution, just something i remembered about. =)

Bob196045: SO it did not work at all, what about changing all the settings, this is meant to allow you to play on most machines.

I did. The instructions were not very specific but what was mentioned was changed and it didn't make a difference Sad
Updated the first post.

Bob196045: If that is onbaord graphics then i don't think it will work for you at all, if not then there may be away around it, just post the name of your graphics card

Edit: Bob196045: try the new Oblivion.ini file i have attached, this is supposed to be tweaked to work with intel chipsets.

Also Take note of this, this was explained because someone said oblivion crashed when its about to start.

While the requirements are lower than that of Oblivion, there are a few things your machine has to support with oldblivion as well:

1) Your Processor must support SSE
2) Your Graphics card must support pixel shader 1.1 and vertex shader 1.1
The versions of oblivion supported are v1.0.228 and 1.1.511, you can get them from http://www.bethsoft.com
