What are Wavefront Materials used for?
An .mtl file holds map settings for an .obj file. If you import just the .obj file into 3D Studio Max and drag-drop a material from the material editor on it, it'll look corrupted since there aren't any map settings. If you import both the .obj and .mtl file into 3D Studio Max you can retexture it with ease.
From an obj exported from nifskope, its mtl file contains its nimaterialproperty settings. spec, gloss, diffuse color etc. not a nescessary file a you can apply a new material in any 3d program or if you are doing an obj import, i think it will lose it anyway and take the0 properties of the mesh you imported over. just reset it up how you want in nifskope.
Thank you very much ^^
I always wondered what they were for, nice
you know you can just open a mtl in notepad and look at it.
