while back the Silgrad Tower team posted a request on several general modelling forums, explaining a bit about whom we are and which open modelling jobs we need assistance with the most. We recieved replies from numerous modellers, though given the general focus of the forums we posted on the repliers had mixed backgrounds. Certain modellers had great skill in creating renders but little experience with game modelling, while some mistook our request as being an ad for a paying job. Others however had both experience and an openness to our non-profit mindset, and their tenure with the Silgrad Tower team will hopefully be as interesting for them as it will be beneficial for us.

One such modeller is Philip L., whom expressed interest in taking on a wide variety of modelling jobs with the team. His first job, shown in the screenshots, was that of recreating the Timsa-Come-By flower from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind: Tribunal. The original from the old game can be seen on this screenshot (courtesy of morrowind.bonusweb.cz) where it's designated as #6.

What is a Timsa-Come-By flower, you may wonder. Well, your guess is almost as good as mine. Fact is that it's a made-up flower that decorated numerous homes in Mournhold, i.e. the city featured in Morrowind's expansion pack Tribunal. From that information we can surmise that the flower thrives in central Morrowind, since that's where Almalexia (of which Mournhold is a district) is situated, but that it also thrives indoors. If it thrives indoors then it doesn't much matter where in the world that 'indoor' is situated... or in other words, there's no logical problem to having it in homes in northwestern Morrowind where Silgrad Tower takes place. At the same time, what constitutes central Morrowind can be debated Big Grin Our southernmost parts could very well be said to be part of central Morrowind in that respect, if we choose to use it as an exterior plant. We'll see.

It's not a good idea for wizards to eat the flower's petals, given that it both cancel's out your blessings and hurts your magicka. Distilling the petals however can yield a potent poison to use against spell casters. It can also give added protection against paralysis, but the effect most players are likely to want to use the petals for are their ability to restore endurance - because it's never a good idea to play with less than max hit points regardless of which type of player you are. The ingredient in our mod stays true to the effects it had in the old game with a minimum of modification.

Philip's Timsa-Come-By job also yielded a flower pot, which we'll use in our mod both as a stand-alone empty pot as well as a potted plant with a Timsa-Come-By in it. Some of the empty pots can be picked up and carried with you - back to your player character's home for instance - while others remain fixed. The reason for that is simple: plants aren't physiqued. If a modder stuck a flower in a physiqued pot then at best the pot could be moved around with the plant stayed hovering in mid-air, at worst the pot would get stuck chaotically between the floor and the plant -- which not only looks silly but inevitably drags the FPS down to its knees. The potted plant with a Timsa-Come-By in it however can be picked up and carried home with you.
If you're an ST Modder the flower will become available to you shortly in the next asset update. Hope to see it around our homes soon. If you're not an ST Modder, look forward to it in our next release (sometime in 2008).

Very nice! Smile
I'll use both the models (for sure).
Yes !! Most Excellent

The Timsa Come By Flower tis a common flower found in Morrowind Mainland, it is said to be the flower given by callers to their chosen counterpart. Supposedly in Mournhold it is a crime to pick them Confusedhrug:

Also the name "Timsa-Come-By" is Trademarked "imagine that"

The word is that no one is sure how it got its name.

But like other dunmer names and swears, it could simply be the number of times the person "Timsa" Came By with flowers for his potential mate, the Mate of course joyfully counted these times by addressing each of these flowers as "Timsa Come by" and that just stuck.

Confusedhrug" Big Grin Well it does make for a nice chessy backstory"

I always thought of the name as meaning "Times 'a come by" and being a fuzzy reference to the passing of time. Your explanation is much more flavorful though, so let's go with that Big Grin Though could you clarify what you meant by Also the name "Timsa-Come-By" is Trademarked "imagine that" ?

To throw some ideas on the table:
I like the idea of it being a crime to pick them. Should we carry that idea over into our mod? Implementing it by simply assigning ownership to instances found in the cities or in public cells. Wouldn't be needed in the wilderness where no-one's around to see it, or in cells with ownership since the cell contents are already protected. The question then becomes why it's illegal to pick them. If they're commonly occuring it can't be because the plant is endangered, and I wouldn't want them to be used rarely to tie in with them being endangered. Perhaps they have religious significance to the Dunmer? If so, to tie in with that, maybe Timsa could be a local saint? Assuming he/she isn't alive anymore.
My mis-understanding on the "Trademark" in the reference the symbol was used "TR" like what would be seen on other items as Trademarked in this case it was simply to reference that the Flora is from the Tribunal Expansion  < Bob was mistaken Big Grin

I like that idea: to make them illigal to pick.... the "why" question will definitely need answering, theirs really no explanation given as to why
their illigal to pick.

I do not think its because of being rare or endangered, it is identified as a common flower.

The local hero or saint idea could be a good reason

I'll ponder on some other reasons .......

For the ndoor ones there's the simple explanation that they are somebody else's.
True that kingevil. We need a solid reason why they're always illegal to pick though.

It can't be because they're rare because they're just not rare, but if they had been then that would have been a good reason in my opinion. The Imperial Reserve in Cyrodiil proves that the authorities take conservation seriously (I realize the real reason it's there is to do the forest/generation system justice, but still), so I don't think it's a stretch of the imagination that they would outlaw hurting certain flora. Just not this particular one.

The only strong contender I can think of that would motivate it being illegal, apart from ownership, is a religious aspect. Folks in medieval days took religion rather seriously, and that's especially true of Morrowind in my opinion, so if the Temple forbode harvesting from the flower I would imagine people would respect that law, whether out of veneration or fear.

But the more I think about it the less inclined I am towards the whole idea of making it illegal to harvest ingredients from it. If it was rare, sure, that could warrant a five gold fine. If the ingredient was a narcotic like moon suger, sure. If it was only used for a specific purpose, like decorating a burial, then I could see how harvesting an ingredient from it would be sacrilige and thus illegal. But we want to use it as a pretty but ordinary household plant in interiors and as a commonly occuring flower in parts of our wilderness and that's just hard to reconcile with the idea of it having a special meaning protected by law.

I still like Bob's backstory for them though :goodjob:
Well I'm open to hearing other possibilities

How about this

Years ago a family of noble descent living in Mournhold had a house slave named Shera, she was a lovely young khajiit who had been with the family since an early age, the gardner Timsa had taken to her and daily would leave the walls of mournhold and pick beautiful pink wild flowers from the nearby meadow. He would bring them to the house for shera and simply say "Tell Shera Timsa come by". Each day Shera would look at her beautiful flowers and repeat the line as she counted them "Timsa Come By" the lady of the house soon took notice of this and being in love once herself asked Shera if she wished to marry Timsa, she joyfully agreed, the arrangements were made but unfortunatly when th carriage left to take Shera to meet her future husband, their was a wreak and the carriage fell off a steep cliff killing all inside, The Lady terribly saddened by this decreed that from that day forward the flower would be known as "Timsa Come By" and that it would be a crime to harvest it

Confusedhrug:

How bout that
