I downloaded a mesh of a morrowind daedric claymore, but it was a .blend file.
So with all my strength I converted it to a .3ds file and a .nif file. Now I need a UV map to start texturing it. I have tried for at least 5 hours to make a UV map, but I just can't do it. I tried all the tutorials I could find and asked on various forums. Could anyone make a simple UV map of it for me? (or tell me precisely how it's done)

I'll look into it, but you do know that you're using a lot of polygons right? around 9000, smoothing never helps.
If I were you I would start over, build the model from scratch but using the original sword as a blueprint.
Doing that, you can properly cut it down into something like 2000 polygons. It will also make it A LOT easier to unwrap, unwrapping something with 9000 polygons equals hell, so it's no wonder you're having a difficult time. I can make a new model for you, if you want.

If you know the basics of unwrapping you could try making a lowpoly sword model and then unwrap that one, and apply that unwrap to the highpoly sword. I dunno if it'll work, just an idea I got...
It would probably be best to UV map some basic objects like cubes and other simple low-poly models to get a feel for how it's done. You're jumping in at the deep end trying to UV that sword without having done anything else before.
Uhm, see, I'm not a modeler so I wouldn't be able to build ANYTHING from scratch. The reason I spend 5 hours trying to unwrap it was to be able to texture it one day.
I would like to get help from you guys.
Also I came to know that the nif was a bit weird because it missed a lot of data.

I'll unwrap a few smaller things myself, but I don't really want to get into modeling that much because it takes away my time I can make textures.

And Tobi the Dane, it would be great if you could make a new model for me.

I'll upload it in a second, I dunno if you know how to get the model working in game, havok, collision and all that. I'm at my dad's place right now, and I forgot my Oblivion disc at home, so I can't test it.



There's both the 3ds max scene (I'm using 3dsmax 9) and an OBJ file which you can just import.

I took some time off to unwrap it for you. You actually only need to texture 1/4 of the sword, the texture will then mirror itself to the other sides.
When it's fully textured you can send it back to me, and I'll see what I can do with collision and physics. But if you already know how to do that it's just wonderful. It's not that hard actually. Find a tutorial or two and play with it until it works.

Sorry for all the trouble, but I can't seem to get a texture in nifskope.
I don't get a NiTexturingProperty and a NiSourceTexture:

okay. This version should work, again I'm sorry. I forgot to apply the default texture, the one you were about to retexture.
There's a little UV map problem, because the texture doesn't really fit on right:

I used your UV map first to test if all the lines would fit on the angles.

I'll try to fix this problem first myself first, then you'll hear if it worked, ok?

EDIT:
Can't seem to get it fixed. Could you help me with it again?

EDIT2:
It seems like the UV map is almost right or mirrored or something. I applied a gradient to it and that seemed ok. bit then I tried drawing different colors over it and it was all wrong again. This indicates that horizontally everything's right. Flipping vertically also doesn't work.
