The Mann777's Quests - TheMann777 - 03-10-2006

I have a feeling that I will be posting quite a few ideas for quests. Would it be a better idea to have a thread of my own for quests instead of clogging up the forums with individual threads that will only have a couple posts each?

My mind was cluttered today. I could only think of one quest, and it was kind of a lame one, not as involved and deep as my first one. Also, I am terrible with non-imperial/argonian names. If anyone has a better name for the scientist, then please correct me and you will get a cookie Smile :

Background: In Reich Parkeep there is an old Altmer, Loqueerial, who is a total recluse. He lives in a small house, constantly locked and unopenable except by a key, that has a giant, subterranean laboratory. Whenever he needs anything from the market, he sends his only slave out. He doesn't think ahead of time about meals, though, which means that the slave goes out at 4:00 PM sharp to get supplies for dinner that night and the lunch and breakfast the next day. He is an alchemist, but not a terribly famous one because he never shares his findings with the outside world.

The Beginning: The PC gets this quest by seeing the slave go to the market to buy stuff. When the PC talks to him, he explains that he is buying food for his master. The slave says that he worries about his master, and he thinks that the Altmer should have some company. He asks the PC to help out and go talk to his master. He gives the PC a key to the front door.

The Middle: The PC goes into the house and the Altmer will be in the laboratory from 6:00 AM untill 10:00 PM. When the PC approaches him, he explains that he doesn't want any company, and tells the PC to get lost. The PC can still ask a few more questions, and eventually the Altmer will get annoyed and tell the PC that he will give a reward if the PC comes back with 500 trama roots (I have been debating with myself whether it should be 500 Trama roots or just one of every plant in the province.) The Altmer gives this quest thinking that the PC will never be able to do it. The PC is not given a choice to reject the quest here.

The End part 1: If the PC declines the slave's request, then he will be annoyed with the PC and won't talk for the rest of the day. The next day, he tells the PC that he talked with his master, and his master hated the idea. There is no way to get into the house.

The End part 2: When the PC comes back with 500 Trama roots, the old Altmer is in complete shock. He cannot believe that there is someone that dedicated to any cause. He feels that people must not be as annoying and bad as he used to believe. He also gives the PC his old shirt, which he used to wear before he got a slave to go into town. The shirt has a CE invisibility spell, but he is not an expert in enchantment, so it comes with a minor flaw, it drains 1 health every second. He would wear this from his house all the way untill he got to the shop that one of the only people he liked ran. He would gather supplies for a week, and rest in the shop for a bit to regain strength. He would then put the shirt back on and go back home. He didn't want to communicate with anyone. Finally, the Altmer remains too busy in his basement to go out to market, so he still sends his slave out, but his door remains unlocked, and he now welcomes company.

I like it. I'm especially fond of how it made me suspect horrible "Jekyll and Hyde" type things that turned out to be baseless. It's a good, very human story.

The Story of a Ring - TheMann777 - 03-10-2006

This would be a neat idea, I think. It would be a nice easter egg type quest that would throw off Morrowind veterans.

Background: There is a young, gorgeous woman in the wilderness looking for some help. She has lost her ring in the water, but she looks to be a delicate woman and will not wade intot he water to find it. There is a strange man dressed in the same manner that she is dressed, but he has a camoflauge spell on and is only slightly visible, and he has a bow at the ready.

The Beginning: It is simple enough. The PC finds this woman who is standing near a pond and she asks the PC to find her ring.

The Middle: The PC goes into the water to find the ring. Easy enough.

The End part 1: If PC rejects the quest, the woman thinks that the PC doesn't trust her, and she and her friend attack the PC.

The End part 2: If the PC finds the ring and keeps it (Why? It is worthless. But if given the choice, some people probably will keep it.) the woman will call the PC a thief and attack the PC.

The End part 3: If the PC finds the ring and returns it, then she is overjoyed. She and her friend are very good friends with a merchant in Silgrad tower (any merchant, really.) That merchant gets a high disposition bonus, maybe between 15 and 20...or all the way up to 100 like that Seyda Neen merchant when the PC helped Fargoth, with the PC, thus goods can be purchased for cheaper and sold for more.

It is a shallow story line, and a cheap ripoff (which might need to be cleared with BethSoft, although I don't think they would mind) of Morrowind, but it puts a nice twist on things, I think.

[EDIT]Some minor spellchecking[/EDIT]

Alright: Here is an idea. Take something simple, something that could be thrown together easily into a fairly mundane quest, and toss in some complexities. Crime is a good, simple subject.

Background: There has been a sharp increase in crime in the past several months in (insert large city name here...it needs to be a city, but I can see no specification needed. This is just a broad topic that can be placed anywhere. I will say Reich Parkeep or Blacklight to keep things simple.) If you ask for rumors around town, you will see that people complain about crime rates. Some will say that they themselves have been mugged in open daylight on the streets, and some will say that they do not feel safe anymore. There will be a few people (mostly rich people who live in a better, and thus more guarded, part of town) who will deny any increase in crime. If you ask any guard, though, they will have different stories.

The Beginning: Ask for rumors from the townsfolk, and then ask any guard about the crime rate. The guards will tell you that crime has drastically risen. They will tell you that some people believe that it is due to unemployment when some Imperials left, and thus their shops closed down. They will also tell you that cases of vigilantes being murdered has increased, which supports the theory that crime is increasing. He ends by indirectly asking for help from the character. I am thinking that there will be about 10 muggers hiding out in the alleys, There are two groups of three and a two pairs.

The Middle: If you search around in the alleys of the city, you will find some people who will not openly attack you at first. You can talk to them and ask them about crime. If your disposition with them is high, then they will admit to it, and they will tell you that they just need money to support their families or themselves. You can also ask some about squalid conditions and learn that they got evicted and are now living on the streets, begging for money and attacking people for money.

The End, part 1: If you go ahead and kill all 10 of the muggers, then the guards will give you a small reward of 500 gold. The End.

The End, part 2: You can offer to help all of the now homeless people. There are two shops that have been abandoned by the Imperial refugees who didn't like the thought of lessened Imperial control. If you give 500 gold to each homeless guy, then they can all combine the gold and purchase these two shops to either share as a large group, or split into groups of five. Each would have jobs, an overall manager, a clerk, a guard, a stocksman, and someone who delivers the goods to the stores. These jobs give money to every one of the ten, which means that they no longer need to resort to crime. After a week, the 10 of them will all pitch in to buy you something special, maybe a cheap enchanted shield. They will also give you great prices on whatever you sell to them and they sell to you. You can also talk to the guards after a week (gametime) and they will reward you with 1,000 gold for helping solve the crime issue peacefully. Finally, the new shop owners spread good rumors about you, and thus you get either a +1 reputation, or a +10 disposition bonus with everyone in town.

Are there any other endings I should take into mind? I cannot think of one, but it is bugging me that there should be more...

Any comments, compliments, suggestions, critiques, additions, or condemnations of any of my ideas are not only completely welcome, but I encourage it. Any constructive criticism would be very much appreciated. Smile

I want to know how I am doing, what I am doing wrong, and how I can fix those imperfections.

- Zarkis - 03-11-2006

I like the first and the last one (player in reintegration business... Wink ).

The second one left me with questions. Why is there a half visible guy with a bow? He doesn't seem to have any function in this mini quest.*scratches head*

A basic issue: I don't remember which relationship the Redorans had to slavery in MW? Did they had any?

- Roger the Shrubber - 03-11-2006

my thoughts exactly, the first and last one was the best. the second one left me with that same question. it would probly help to make the friend in the second one completly visable, and give him something other than a bow. but above all i would have to say the last one was the best. :goodjob:

It is a rip off of a quest in Morrowind, with a twist at the end.

The woman asked you to get her ring out of the pool, and there was a half-visible guy standing on a hill close to the pond. When you returned the ring, both she and the half-visible guy would ambush you, so it was all just a trap.

I guess we could take out that half visible guy, and a Morrowind player could be left to wonder if there is someone nearby...

Number two is not my best by far, I just thought it would be a nifty idea to bring something from Morrowind back...

I think this would be a nice easter egg Big Grin I did this quest in TES3 and it scared the crap out of me when that invicible guy(or girl, forgot) attacked
