Thanks! That did the trick...kinda
I'd already set the checkbox and the collisionmesh already had it's custon attributes set, but for a few models I had changed stuff after that and somehow the script didn't register at export. A simple unckeck/checking of the box did it for me. So thanks for the advice! Now I know to set 'is collisionmesh' only just prior to exporting.
Now all I have to blame is my own shitty texture work

Hey, I posted this question in another thread on this forum, but I think It's better if it's here instead. I've followed the tutorial but something is not right, from what I've learned about the nif file format it seems like the command to show the mesh itself is missing, and only the collision gets exported.
I've included a screenshot from nifskope here, hope anyone can understand what the problem is and how to fix it.

do you use max8? delete all meshes you do not want to export. When you have only the mesh and the collision shape, you want to export, be shure that in the NifProps tool the parameters are set correct! If this don't fix the problem try to apply the 'reset transformation tool' of max to your geometry.

1) I'm using 3DSMAX6
2) The object is a simple cylinder.
3) I've tried CivIV shader and Blinn shader.
4) I've tried with and without UVMapping.
5) When I click the "[x] Is Collision Mesh",
NIFSkope shows there is nothing but the
collision data in the NIF, just the "havoc"
red wire frame displayed.
Answers?

Thanks, that solved my problem, had to create two meshes in Max, one which I enabled "is collision mesh" and one that I did nothing with.

Yes, that works, sorry I was confused.
However, in NIFSkope the havoc red shown (collision)
is noticeably larger than the textured mesh object.
In game it seems fine.
So let's see if I understand this....
You can have only one mesh [x] Is Collision Mesh
Is that true? So if I have multiple max objects,
I need to copy them all, make em one object,
and [x] Is Collision Mesh?

Hmm.
A collision mesh is an invisible husk over your mesh that the player can bump into and/or let the player interact with the model. The collision mesh needs to be larger than the real mesh at all times, or it won't work perfectly. It shouldn't be much larger, because the player will experience it as bumping into nothingness, or smaller, because then the player will walk into it before bumping.
The collision mesh changes color depending on what layer it has. Different layers causes the model to behave in different ways. I haven't explored it thoroughly, but the static layer doesn't work on doors or containers. It seems to work on plants.
You can only have as many collision meshes as you have real meshes. You can have ten real meshes and one collision mesh, but not one real mesh and two collision meshes. If you do the latter, only one of the collision meshes will work. I think it has to do with the nif format itself.

Not sure you are correct about being able to utilize more
than one [x] Is Collision Mesh in a scene (model). I tried
with two objects, two matching collision meshes, and only
one showed up in NIFSkope.
Also, I have tried and tried, using either STATIC layer
or ANIMSTATIC layer and METAL material, but cannot
seem to get the collision mesh to at least match the
basic HEIGHT of the meshes they represent... they
seem to be about half height of what they should be...

... and in max the collision mesh has the same height like the base mash? I think its independent of the layer used.
