The Refugee City Discussion |
|
Lets work out what we're going to have in the refugee city, and plan
out a kind of progression for it. I'd like to have the place grow to be
around 30 some buildings. Next thing to worry about is the way the city
will develop. When the refugees first started work on the city, they
would likely build a central-communal type building/town-hall, w/e you
want to call it. Next they would construct a watchtower in a strategic
position, followed by homes for the villagers. Then they would move on
to commercial structures.
So help me come up for some buildings for the town. I need a lot more than what is below:
-Town Hall
-10+ Houses
-4-6 Guard Towers
-2-3 Inns/Taverns
-A Smith
-An Alchemist
-A Trader
-An Enchanter
-An Exotic Goods Trader
There will also be optional buildings only available to good or bad
characters, or suppose you are a member of a faction, if you are a high
enough rank you can help that faction open up a chapter in the refugee
town. |

For the houses maybe we can start with tents, and as you continue on it builds up to huts and eventually houses.

I was thinking that the town hall would be built and then everyone
would start out sleeping in there on cots. We can have some tents
outside though. The only thing is that when you want to make something
appear, and then dissappear in the CS, it has to be down with
everything else in the Cell, so I'm trying to minimize clutter in the
Cells of the town since lots of stuff will be comming and going. |

There could be an outdoor market, for the traders who haven't got themselves a fixed shop yet.

are you making it so you can choose where to build based on available
resources or just because you want a certain place to build it, or is
it going to be one fixed place in the mountains? |

@ andrew6v: Only one location, two locations for something of this
scale would make it extremely complicated. There will be lots of
otherways to customize the town though.
@ Ebonyknight: No, you will be the government. You choose whether your are benevolent or malevolent leader.

Maybe, more like though, you're cruel, and the commoners emulate that,
and break the law on their own. Then you go down and beat them up. |

You're right about the sleeping in the Town Hall. That's definitely
what would happen up in the mountains, but the Town Hall wouldn't go up
in a day, and until then they'd probably have to sleep in tents or
something?
Also, probably the first thing they'd build would be some sort of
half-assed watchtower made of just wood and junk. The Town Hall would
take too long to neglect any sort of lookout for that period of time.
Or, that could be a part of the game, making the player decide what to
build in what order, and rewarding/punishing them appropriately, like
having wolves attack periodically, and without a watchtower they spawn
right near the village with no warning. However, once you have just a
lookout up, they spawn farther away so that you have time to prepare,
'save the women and children' and all that.

It could be a cool idea to implement to have structures go up in
stages. For instance, as Siegfried says, the town hall would be the
first real building to go up. However, you wouldn't have this shining,
beautiful town hall up in the middle of nowhere. So, once that's up,
put up some outdoor markets, start building some basic housing and
defensive stuff, and then as the basics are covered, move onto more
important things. Along the same principal as Maslow's hierarchy of
needs.

Like a naughty puppy!
Just so no one gets the wrong idea, I'm not trying to come in here and
'show you all what's what' or nothing(in case it looks like I am.) I'm
just trying to throw out ideas and stuff.

Not at all. We need all the ideas we can get.
And you seem to have tons of them.
