I was thinking magickally enforced thick glass... No windows, just glass.

I'm sorry but that lore you have there is from the old Pocket book not the new one. That lore you have there isn't reliable. |
I'm sorry too, if only because from all indications much Oblivion Lore
is very poorly integrated, and widely disrespected. Just because
Oblivion was made after Morrowind does not mean it is better or more
reliable.
Consider that consoles are not known for the quality of their Lore, and
they have had a more than acceptable influence over Ob.
One indicator of the poor quality of Oblivion Lore is that I do not
hear anything about the extensive beurocracy that a vast Empire creates
over a period of hundreds or thousands of years - oh, so sorry, not exciting or 'joinable'?
Also the Empire is not exactly known for the total reliability of its propaganda...

I say leave the oblivion bashing out of it. New, even if its "consolized" lore, ALWAYS supersedes old lore.

Consolized lore shouldn't supercede good interesting lore. It already
makes me made the story of Oblivion wasn't as good as Mw, and I only
have average knowledge about lore. Imagine how it is for someone who
studied the ES series, enjoyed the story and lore, and wants mods to go
with good lore.
But anyway, you're definitly right about the Imperial propaganda. We
should purposely make it so there are things that contradicts it. |

I agree there, but Oblivion lore is the new ES lore, and nw games will
incorporate it, new lore is new lore, I can understand benf=ding a bit
on a few issues, but overall, it is the new official lore.

Alinor
A forbidden city for nearly fifty years, Alinor is both capital of the
Summerset Isles and the heart of the Aldmeri Dominion. Human traders
were only allowed at its ports, and they described the city as "made
from glass or insect wings." Less fantastic accounts come from the
Imperial emissaries of the Reman Dynasty, which describe the city as
straight and glimmering, "a hypnotic swirl of ramparts and impossibly
high towers, designed to catch the light of the sun and break it to its
component colors, which lies draped across its stones until you are
thankful for nightfall."

ok, pay atention to the italic, bolded, and URLed bits. first of all,
since no-one but the altmer were alowed to visit it for over 50 years
[1], other races wouldn't know what it was made of. the very fact that
the descriptions of the city vary so much reinforces the fact that few
people realy know what it looks like. to me it seems that the city is
just very organic and flowing (art nouveau again). however, I do see how it is save to asume thats its atleast partly made of glass (red).

Hmm... I guess there might be two (2) glass tower cities?
Well, I'm not sure, but your idea of "reflecting the light of the ancestors" sounds like a good base for something here...

We haven't quite gotten to the land yet
, but DA made a little bit of it, and we're working on a tileset. Heh,
no we haven't started on any cities yet (we seem to be still in the
discussion stage, so to speak.)
Are you interested in joining?
If so, that'd be awesome
, thanks.

These are all very interesting... I've always imagined Summerset to
look a bit like the middle one (closest), but there'll be a lot of
bridges and stuff... They all look like they'd be interesting to
implement though, are they yours?

Oh no . not mine, just some stuff I had for ideas on a city ... I got them from scifi cityscapes.
I like the middle as well, it would seem to fit better into an Island landscape I think
Bridges would be a must if you go with the tall tower concept, can't
levitate in TES4.... (thats what I've been told) dont know from
experience
but summerset would probably be different anyways.

A lot is different in TES4, but that doesn't mean we can't create Summerset as how we imagined it!
Just imagine the possibilities, levitating elevators and platforms,
ancient libraries, antique statues... I truly think that if we do this
mod right, it could go a looooong way.

This is true, thiers not much lore about summerset, at least not that I
can find, just little bits here and their, gives a good starting point
to create your own. Since it is beleived that summerset is one of the
possible places the mer first came to these lands so it would have lots
of old stuff,
ruins, artifacts etc etc

Plus there's lots of lore in TES: Redguard. Very good game,
unfortunately I haven't been able to get it to run on my Windows XP
system yet
but worry not, I will succeed one of these days (probably). Actually,
that game supports a lot of the lore of Tamriel, I'm surprised no one
has really brought it up much here...

Yeah I read some of the Redguard stuff, I didn't see too much about
summerset a few references to it, I think someone said to someone else.
"I havent been their in years, a beautiful place" I remember reading
that, but don't remember much else
Nice drawings
The only image I've seen anywhere which shows the tower looks similar in style to those.

Yup thats the one !!
isn't that suppose to be the Crystal Tower. If so it doesnt look very crystal at all, also the crystal tower isn't in Alinor
When I think of crystal (or glass cities) the first thing that pops in
my head is the Emerald City from Wizard of Oz (somethings wrong with
me) lol

More or less... But maybe with smaller spikes sticking out here and
there and generally more decorated, and the surrounding landscape is
covered in ice due to the magic from the tower perhaps? ...

Have you considered marble or a white sandstone for the buildings, with the glass instead of the "brick" look ?

It'd be nice to have modular glass pieces, so we can make several different buildings and towers out of one tileset...
Same for white marble, or any other type of stone... Hmm... metal... I don't suppose we could have a metal city?
Like the Steel Tower of Orsinium, or something like that?

I don't know, a slightly darker green palace with some marble or jade could be very awe inspiring.

Well we do have a jade thing going, Hmmm yea, if we did that we could
use the color of the glass in green boys avatar. What if we had like
red glass to? that might not work but its a thoght.

Red, yes
Green, yes
Red and Green, no.
Red glass in other places, perhaps a light blue along with the green? Fits the look of the ayleid retext.
