Summary

The idea came around when me and MR were discussing the Sload's like of playing on Humaniod's emotions; it then developed into the idea that the Sloads would have a "Court Theatre" in which they would entertain guests (Imperials from the embassy in Vandor, and upperclass merchants and high classed individual from around Tamriel, mostly from Cyrodiil) with acts from around Tamriel, and their own works (their own works would be mostly taken from adapted Redguard/Yokudan stories and myths).

Quests

There will be a few quests related to the Theatre, however there will only be one where the PC gets "act" in a performance (this is due to the large amount of scripting that needs to be done to make a play, let alone one that lets the PC act in it). The other quests relating to the theatre are yet to be decided, though the MQ will bring the PC here at some point (i'm not saying which line at the moment though).

Details

* The Theatre has been talked about being outside, and some designs have been made (but because doing it outside makes it weather permitting for shows, it might be best to make it inside).

* The shows will mainly be acted out by Sloads, however there will also be some Humaniods acting aswell (some actors come from a very long way to act in the Court theatre of Thras, because of level of renown).

* The main audioence(sp) will comprise of the Nobles, High Class, officials, and negotiaters of the Imperial Embassy in Vandor, however there will also be an area where slaves can watch.

Concepts

There has been little in the way of concept art so far (I know MR did one awhile ago, but I can't seem to find it) for the court theatre, so if anyone would like to have ago that would be great. The details of the concepts that are needed are:

* Exterior version of the Theatre

- It has been discussed that it should be like an aphitheatre, with a semi circle of seats rising up, with a stage oposite. The stage has a "coral-Shell" roof that comes over it.

- No discussion has been done on this version, however I think it would be nice if it was done like a very traditional RW theatre, with very elaborate wood caraving, and rich red stage curtains, etc (Obviously if it was done like this it would rather be Imperial in design, rather than Sloadic, though Sloadic elements, like coral, and sea designs could be incorperated into it).

And some of the other concepts needed are:

- Sloadic "Acting" costumes, for plays (research some of the garments worn in the day of shakesphere, and see if you can make some of the more "extreme" fashion statements, more out-there and over-the-top, and then customise it to fit a sload).

- Imperial clothing, suitible for the high class from the embassy to attend plays in (research some of the 1700-1800 garments that were worn to plays, and prefromances, and any thing that would be used for the upperclass to attend balls, or ceremonies).

- Props (yes this may sound silly, but things like backdrops, and decorative pieces to represent things like trees and the sea are needed, aswell as other things like that are very much needed to pull off an over-the-top theatre ambience).

- Seats (if you have ever been to a clasical theatre you would have noticed that the seats would have been really nicely made, some would of even of been decorativly carved, and they would of been cushsioned, covered with red felt (I think it's felt...).

Concepts already done:

- One by MR of an exterior version of the theatre (can't find the image currently).

-One by TOYB of a Sloadic Acting Garment

Any comments or ideas are apreciated.

Cheers,
TOYB

What about having lectures, like the one in the arcane university, in the theatre? It'd be nice to have more than just plays going on, and I always hear people on the official forums complain about there not being any other lectures besides the one about doomstones.
Also, I've always imagined the city the theatre is in as being the 'odd one' of Thras. I don't think that the sload would normally cater to men and mer, and certainly not perform for them. There should be animosity and hate towards the sload of this city among the sload of the other settlements.

I would imagine other Sloads would not watch the performances, and the ones that do perform are probably more in it for the money. Also we have the Lore that Sloads like to play on Men and Mer's emotions. And I must point out, that the theatre also could get used as a "Diversion tactic" against the Imperials, like say for instance the Sloads wanted to have a public sacrifice of slaves, etc, and they don't want the Imperials intruding.

although couldn't they simply bar Imperials from viewing the sacrifice of slaves?
I mean the Imperials know they are merchants in a potentially profitable but foolhardy venture, and know they are in a land of slug-men who don't care if they die or not as long as the Sload can make good money...

so they will naturally not want to 'piss off' the Sload right? Confused

which makes me think a diversion is unnecessary... but that's just me, maybe you have a slightly different idea in mind that would made the diversion idea fit the scenario a lot better than the picture I have in my head

It's an Imperial embassy, so anything like that would have to go on record, so lets say a few high Imperial diplomats knew about it, but got paid to look the other way Wink So then got everyone to attend an outing at the theatre... This would happen on a regular basis, because say the Sloads wanted to find something in the embassy, they would need the imperial out, etc.

I don't think the sload would care what the imperial's think, especially with the state of the empire right now. And even if they did, it seems like a rather grandiose plan to get what they want. I would think the sload would prefer doing something simpler, like coercian and bribary.

I like the idea of the theatre, I think we're just giving it the wrong purpose. Kvata/? becoming increasingly insane/senile is a much better option, in my opinion.

I agree with / MarshallR agree with me on this one.. ?

yes Yes

I think that's a good plan... but perhaps the Thrassian theater on Vandor is just so awesome and such a good representation of human emotion (by calculating and well practiced Sload performers) that the wealthy (and shady) Imperials keep it comin' and giving their money to watch the show... its own of the few good things here in Thras (in their point of view) since giant kelp forests, deadly reefs, and fat smelly slugs aren't beautiful, its just profitable

You've got your places wrong, that Lore is about the Tropical Elves place (can't remember the name of it).
