The Factual Record of the Sack of Skywatch - By Hrafnkel

This one has noticed some misconceptions, which, of course, are inherent in the writings of foolish Men and Mer, regarding the attack on Skywatch by the coral land of Thras. As such, this one decides that these misconceptions should be cleared up, as factual records are the only ones worth the effort in writing.

One must realize, Skywatch and its resources were beneficial to the Sload who struck out at it, and in their years of contemplation and discussion of the matter, their method was found to be most proper and efficient. This itself should justify the action, were it not for the prejudices of the Altmer; though their opinion of this one's race or of the event itself is inconsequential. The 'Sack of Skywatch' did in fact occur in 1301 of the First Era of human reckoning. However, it was no tragedy, only a small campaign of little significance to any but the Sload who carried it out. This is something that mortal races find difficult to grasp, this one thinks.

The true reason for the Sack of Skywatch was simply to obtain riches and corpses, the two most valuable commodities to a Sload. Altmer corpses are particularly valuable, as they retain more of their magical essence than other races, making them particularly useful servants. Riches, of course, are something that even Sload have some trouble resisting, as they have so many uses in this materialistic mortal world. Any of this one's race would have felt compelled to strike at Skywatch.

That said, the collective of Sload who did so were cautioned against their actions by many an elder. They were too ambitious, and made mistakes. Attacking a large Altmeri city requires much planning and careful selection of one's servants, so as not to cause too much damage to the corpses one would wish to collect. However, the ones who carried out the siege were hasty and careless, and used inferior specimens for the task. Much of their army was composed of reanimated goblins, orcs, and Redguards (who, of course, are particularly plentiful because of their knack for killing each other, and their superstitions which cause them to bury their dead off shore, practically inviting this one's people to take what they wish). These servants proved too savage, and far too many valuable corpses and treasures were simply destroyed. A wiser Sload would certainly use more precise, if more difficult to obtain, servants, such as Bosmer, or perhaps Khajiit.

As the attack commenced, the undead armies of the group of Sload masters overwhelmed much of the city. Many treasuries burned to the ground, ruining much of what was in them, and many potential servants were beaten into useless heaps of battered flesh and shattered bones. It was a tremendous waste of wondrous resources, and this is regrettable. Because of their recklessness, the attack was eventually turned back when a number of Altmer wizards rallied their goblin slaves to occupy the undead horde. Using the distraction, the unusually cunning Altmer proceeded to locate the Sload masters, who were fairly defenceless once their guards were dispatched. These Sload were killed, weakening their magically reanimated armies, and allowing them to be destroyed.

In the end, very little was even gained from the attack, and this is why this one records it, for it is never proper or advisable to use such haste and indiscretion in one's actions.
