The Seige of Orsinium, a play - Lugar2
ACT IV, SCENE I
NARRATOR: Morning, Orsinium. Day of the Attack. The night before
Nightblades were sent to sneak into the stronghold and set marks within
the walls to allow a small group of warriors access.
The scene opens on the battlefield, the Orcish stronghold in the
distance. Gaiden Shinji, Alusaron and a half-dozen Order of Diagna
warriors stand gathered.
GAIDEN SHINJI: Are we ready warriors!
WARRIORS (in unison): Ready Sir!
GAIDEN SHINJI: Mages send us in. (The Mages cast the spells of teleportation upon the warriors.)
Lights fade on the battlefield and scene reopens inside the stronghold.
NARRATOR: Inside the enemy stronghold the cunning warriors advance
stealthily through the buildings. They scale the walls of the inner
citadel and come upon the Orcish Leader's personal guard.
GAIDEN SHINJI: Flee before us fowl beasts.
ORC OFFICER (surprised): How can this be? Where were the patrols? Never mind them, you shall die now Redguard.
ALUSARON: Attack!
NARRATOR: The two small forces fight and though the Orcs are hardy and
strong they are no match for the skilled swordsmen of the Order of
Diagna.
GAIDEN SHINJI: Come out to your doom wretched beast!
ORDER OF DIAGNA WARRIOR: Sir, the city is aware of us. They come to retake their citadel.
GAIDEN SHINJI: You six guard this passage, Alusaron and I shall find the Azuk.
ORDER OF DIAGNA WARRIOR: Yes, as you command. Warriors! Make ready the guard!
GAIDEN SHINJI (to Alusaron): Let us go friend. (Exit Gaiden Shinji and Alusaron)
Lights fade on the stronghold.
ACT IV, SCENE II
NARRATOR: The Order of Diagna leaders go to face the Orcish brute in final showdown.
The scene opens on the great hall of the stronghold. Azuk sits on his
makeshift throne, his Shaman standing near, as Gaiden Shinji and
Alusaron enter.
AZUK GRO AZORKU: So, you have come to face me at last.
GAIDEN SHINJI: We have come to end your tyranny at last.
AZUK GRO AZORKU: You Redguard, so foolish. Are they not Shaman?
ORCISH SHAMAN: So very foolish.
NARRATOR: Using arcane arts the Orcish Shaman summons forwards a dozen
skeletal minions that assail the intruders. The weak bones of the
skeletons prove little obstacle for the two and they move forward to
attack the Orcish leaders.
ORCISH SHAMAN: Foul demons, Halt! (The Shaman fires a spell at the two but they manage to dodge it.)
Azuk rises and picks up his weapon, a large and crude battle-axe.
NARRATOR: The four enter battle, the Orcish Leader Azuk gro Azorku
fighting Gaiden Shinji and Alusaron both at once as the Shaman assails
them with magic from the side.
AZUK GRO AZORKU (while fighting): After you're dead, know that your
children will be next, and your wives. Nothing will escape my grasp.
GAIDEN SHINJI: No, You'll Die Now!
Gaiden Shinji finally manages to thrust sword into Azuk, simultaneously
Azuk's axe drops quickly, Shinji in its path. Alusaron tries to stop
the axe but is hit in the back by a bolt from the Shaman; the axe of
Azuk though Azuk is dead fells the Order of Diagna leader.
ALUSARON: NO! (Quickly turns and kills Shaman then runs to Gaiden Shinji)
GAIDEN SHINJI (dying): My time is come; I go to be with the gods of war in their great halls...
ALUSARON: Goodbye my friend.
GAIDEN SHINJI: Goodbye... finish... the fight...
Alusaron rises taking the body of Gaiden Shinji over his shoulder and exits the great hall of the stronghold. Lights dim.
ACT IV, SCENE III
NARRATOR: Orsinium, the final Siege. Alusaron managed to escape from
the Orcish stronghold after the death of Gaiden Shinji, the great
leader's body sent back to Hammerfell for memorial. The allied leaders
now stand ready for the final fight with the disheartened Orcs, the
leaders of both sides dead. But the allies are not disheartened, but
encouraged, for they are warriors and they know their leader feasts
with the gods while the Orc cries in Oblivion.
The scene opens on the battlefield. Alusaron, Thetrard Rane, Sason and Kotaro stand before the armies of the allies.
SASON: Men of Hammerfell!
THETRARD RANE: And men of Daggerfell!
KOTARO: We stand now united!
ALUSARON: And ready to exact our final vengeance upon the enemy!
SASON: The end has come at last! And What Shall We Do!
THE ARMIES (in unison): We Shall FIGHT!!!
THETRARD RANE: And when it is over, once again we shall have peace in the bay.
ALUSARON: While the scourge that is Malooc flees from our purging flame.
KOTARO: LET IT BEGIN!!!
NARRATOR: The joint armies of Sentinal, Hammerfell and the Order of
Diagna once again assail the stronghold of the Orcs, for a last time
putting all they have into their cause, for a last time engaging the
enemy in battle. The Unknown Gods of War gave show of their strength
over the Horde King Malooc and the battle ended, the Siege of Orsinium
over 1E 980, after thirty long years...
ACT IV, SCENE IV
NARRATOR: Sentinal. One month later.
The scene opens on great mausoleum. Torches, candles and banners of
every colour adorn the area. Alusaron, Thetrard Rane, Sason and Kotaro
once again stand, this time before seven marbled tombs.
ALUSARON (reading the plaques as he passes by them): Sword-Maiden
Julia, Sword-Maiden Patia, Sword-Maiden Makela Leki, Order of Diagna
Leader Gaiden Shinji, Sword-Maiden Kati, Sword-Maiden Cegila,
Sword-Maiden Zell. The casualties of war, the bravest of their type and
the heroes of the day. And once again I live, but my time is coming
when I shall join you.
PRIEST: We shall remember them in death, but not mourn, for they feast with the gods.
SASON: On toward the future, carved by the sword.
THETRARD RANE: Toward the future!
KOTARO: Toward the future! May we not falter.
ALUSARON: We won't. As our friend and leader the sure avatar of a god
himself Gaiden Shinji proclaimed, "the best techniques are passed on by
the survivors", and we have once again survived so much. We will not
falter and the future will know of our prowess, and his wisdom...
(Note from the playwright: This time emphasis is to be placed on the
quote "the best techniques are passed on by the survivors.")
As the quote leaves the actors mouth bright runes appear on the plaque
of Gaiden Shinji, forever inscribing the words for generations to come
and to read and to learn of one of their greatest heroes.
Lights dim, End Play.
(Note from the playwright: Lighting is key throughout the play. Candles
should be used for normal lighting. During monologues and when shifting
the audiences attention, from one scene to the next, magical light
should be used to light and dim the respective actors. For this reason
it is always important to employ a reliable mage for scene and night to
day transitions.)
