Experiment and Theory Logbook ? By Lugar2

-- Arnand Adrognese, Necromancer and Warlock

[The work logs of the Breton Arnand Adrognese, a Necromancer working with the Sload of Thras. Having, unlike the Sload, a fallible memory these notes are taken for later study and reflection purposes. Adrognese made these logs public upon his 'death' for use by his fellow brothers in the necromantic arts.]

13 Sun's Dawn, 3E 146

I have arrived in the Coral Kingdoms of Thras, domain of the Sload. My stay with the famed Necromancers comes through bargain that I have entered into with their merchants. Upon providing them with the bodies of one hundred deceased soldiers from a small regional conflict in High Rock they have granted me access and study in their realm.

19 Sun's Dawn, 3E 146

The labs of the Sload bring a great sense of glee to my heart. I've seen nothing relatable to them back home in High Rock. Their necromantic arts are far in superiority to our own, most likely due to the unrestricted research and zero ethics found in the society. Men and Mer alike I have seen resurrected beyond the simple undead capabilities of my Breton fellows. With the soul captured the Sload may truly bring the subjects back to life, fully to their prior form and I have even witnessed full body transplants.

This proved quite gruesome for a particular Altmer merchant captain captured attempting an attack on a Sload vessel. Their testings on the subject took it to the edge of death and beyond, and back once again only to return to death again and again. His cries of agony fell on deaf ears to the Sload and my own senses of compassion became matched with those of the slugs long ago. The experiment was quite fascinating to say the least, one must only be sure to keep the soul intact and some object to place the soul in available.

In this I have come to view necromancy for what it really is, enchanting with human souls. If only the Imperial bureaucrats and Mages Guild fanatics viewed the enchanters which fill their halls as only being one small step away from the Necromantic Arts. What sort of uproar would it start in the Imperial City if they knew that their neighbour enchanter has the same capabilities as the necromancers? I've no doubt that the fanatics will eventually succeed in outlawing our practice, only time will tell how long it will take them.

5 First Seed, 3E 146

Today I have finished my learning of the language of the Sload as presented in the text N'Gasta! Kvata! Kvakis! I hope that once I return to the mainland I shall be able to create a translation of this text for all the less skilled than myself to read.

[Many of the pages are now written in a language similar to that of the Sload and is unintelligible.]

1 Rain's Hand, 3E 146

Today I have been the witness to the Sload scholars here on Thras. Before me stood a thousand foot tall spiral of coral, the Pillar of Thras. I was informed that the Sload often used the Pillar for sacrificial purposes; though it seemed that quite randomly sacrifices would disappear on their journey to the rocks below. The Sload in all their wisdom had yet to discover the reasoning behind these disappearances.

The witnessing of the disappearances is quite peculiar indeed. Two Altmer plummeted to their deaths from the Pillar; the third simply vanished in mid fall, though the fourth once again met an untimely end. Upon examination I found no outstanding differences between the falls. Whether the magic?s of the Pillar operate on whim or whether there is some deeper force at work I've yet to deduct. Rumour circulates that Oblivion may be the end destination of the disappeared. Further study is needed.

3 Rain's Hand, 3E 146

My experiments with the Pillar of Thras came to no avail today. With levitation potions ready to protect me from the rocks below I hurled myself from the Pillar many times, quickly swallowing the potion before my sure death would come. Perhaps I shall try again in the future but for now my research in this area has come to a halt.

[The text once again ventures into the language of the Sload and becomes unintelligible.]

24 Last Seed, 3E 148

Tomorrow shall begin the process of becoming a lich, everything has been prepared. The Sload have agreed to aide me in this process, keeping my soul in a gem and then enchanting it to my new form upon completion. Various ingredients ranging from the heart of a lich to the tongue of a dragon have been collected and will provide me with the magical energies required to remove my soul.

25 Last Seed, 3E 148

Today I am gone, tomorrow I will rise, all powerful...
