Getting meshes, any way to use Morrowind meshes, etc Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       IP Information Go to the top of this page

A lot of the meshes from Morrowind could easily be upgraded to Oblivion-worthy quality with the right textures, thanks to the wonderous technology of paralax (or virtual displacement) mapping that Oblivion uses... I'm thinking mainly statics like buildings, armor, and weapons... the right paralax map and hi-res texture could make Morrowind armor look absolutely amazing... plus it would take a HUGE load off of us for this project...

Question is, is there any possible way to be able to legally do this? Do you think there's any chance that the Morrowind devs would give us permission to use the meshes from Morrowind for our mod? OR if not... is there any way to make our mod require that people have Morrowind installed on their machine to make it legal to use the Morrowind meshes?

Also, what about the possibility of using other meshes made by the community for Morrowind, but upgrading their textures to oblivion-quality as well? I'm thinking stuff from the Assassins Armor, Weapon Compilation, Jeremy's Knights of Tamriel Armor... etc...
EDIT: And NO I'm not suggesting using them without permission either... I'd mean ASK the authors if we could use them and then use them... just wondering if it's a possibility...

I hate to say this, but I believe theres a topic exactly like this one in visual dev :D

but basically no MW meshes can be used, we can however use any other non copyrighted content, including stuff from other mods, however they'd need to be upgraded for oblivion...

sooner or later someone with MOD powers will... or we can just stop posting in it and let it die... I say opt for the latter...

Which thread would that be, batman? I thought I knew which one it was, so I merged the posts in this thread with one in visual dev... but in hindsight that probably wasn't it. Just that cryonaut talked about parallax mapping in that one too. Along the way I lost KuKulzA's post, but I see he fixed my mistake already :)

But there's a thread in The Tavern - "Right, let's start rebuilding Silgrad!" - which chronicles the incident where Locklear93 (Zenimax employee) informed us that using any kind of assets from TES3 would be a copyright violation. Before we knew that we were going to just migrate every model from Morrowind we wanted to use again Tongue ...that's what spawned the modelling frenzy these past ten months.

Edit:
Confused

My pet peeve: huge images in img code. I reserve the right to make any such image into a clickeable thumbnail whenever I see it.
