"Modding should begin soon, before 2007 comes" |
|
I quoted KuKulza in the topic, I pity the fact that he used the term
Should instead of leaving that out and saying Begins with the S on the
end in favor of correct grammar...
Anyway, I do like he said this which means he is setting priorities. I
think we should all keep ourselves to the statement "The landmass of
TESIV: Vvardenfell will be started before 2006 is over."
I know we're still waiting until someone pops out and says: "Hey guys,
I happen to have some great skills with the heightmapping, I'll do it
all for you!"
But we could be searching more active which is necessary for this project to succeed.
So how about posting a topic on ESF that we need a heightmapper for our Vvardenfell project.
I think there will be coming up at least someone who will be
volunteering since hundreds of people out there will be delighted to
see their beloved Vvardenfell returing in splendid new graphics
That was about it for now, time for breakfast.

good point... the thing is... Axen may have started it already if we
weren't waiting for the Morrowind landmass which is to be made by
Rodan... I PMed him and I asked when that was to be done...
and it's true... modding-wise we are terrible... planning-wise we are a loaded cannon, waiting to be fired...
and from my several recruitment threads in the past... my experience is
that you get 100 people who like the idea, 10 who say they will help,
and maybe 2 that do... that's my experience...
and keep in mind, any of you are allowed to post recruitment threads,
as you are "Gulakhans" but post here and SAY that you will... that way
we don't ALL have threads and people get confused

I'll likely be the heightmapper. Unless I get abducted by aliens.

Ok, so Axen will be starting as soon as Rodan is done, right? Oh
goodness, so we do have a little clear point in the fog of when to
start
How about we make that a little more clear to the entire team, I mean,
I didn't know we were actually waiting for Rodan to be done, and there
isn't much I don't read on these boards...

If I wanted Vvardenfell to not look anything remotely like Vvardenfell, it'd be useful.

have it your way is for Burger King...
if we decide on anything major, it's within the Yurt, not an individual, unless it's me, but even then I'd ask around

Maybe if you had a look at the program, you'd know what I mean. It's a terrain GENERATOR. That's not helpful at all.

Well, we're making our Vvardenfell sixteen/sixty-four times its orginal
size, so if you want to have it all handmade and done by 2008, be my
guest, KuKulzA, we might need to recruit some help for Axen if he won't
use a terrain generator of any sort. BTW: Don't assume I don't know
what I'm talking about here.

Four times, actually. And you STILL don't get it about
the terrain generator. It's 100% random. It CANNOT be controlled in any
way that would make it useful to us. |

fankly if I had the time... I'd make all the land "by hand"... like
take a week off and do EVERYTHING... but I don't have that time...
which sucks... |

Getting out of the huge line of quotes here, listen, the poll was
messed up a lot. The person who did the poll said that 400 % was 16 *
16 OB cells, 100 % being 4 * 4 OB cells. An Oblivion cell is a quarter
of a standard Morrowind Cell. Here's what the results for the poll
showed:
S
S
S
S
S
S
S
S
S
S
S
S
A
A
M M
O M A A S S S S S S S S S S S S
S=Silgrad Tower Cell
A=400% of MW cell
M=Morrowind Cell
O=Oblivion Cell
People didn't want the 400 %, they wanted the 16 * 16, judging from the
comments. So our equivilant to one MW cell would probably be 64 cells.
I don't know about you guys, but that is what was implied by just about everybody who posted there.
About Fractal Terrain, DA and FLESH seem to have managed to generate
Elsweyr and Valenwood alright. I'll ask them about it, and I think
there are ways of making it yourself there.

That seems the best option: Ask other people who have already created something like this...

I have other plans for how I'm going to make the
heightmap (see that old GeoControl thread). With the larger scale, it
WILL be larger than 4096x4096, but likely smaller than 8192x8192. |

Very good, then there is one question remaining as far as I'm concerned; When will it be started?

It would be extremely helpful if someone actually made that modified
version of Prometheus' map that divides it into quads like I requested
about a million and a half years ago.
That, and I need GeoControl v2 for a couple reasons:
1) Most importantly, the ability to seamlessly combine multiple
heightmaps. I will have to apply filters in GeoControl in 4096x4096
chunks (the program doesn't support anything larger, and even if it
did, it would require a ridiculous amount of RAM, which I don't have),
and I need a way to combine them seamlessly (even if you just smooth
out the borders between them, there will still be seams where the
heightmaps meet, if that makes sense).
2) More filters. Dunes for northern/northwestern Ashlands, lava cracks for the Molag Amur, highly detailed rivers, etc.
The problem... it may or may not get released before 2007. Maybe by
December if we're lucky. Of course, I can start on the other heightmap
things before then.
Either that, or you can have a very crappy and boring randomly generated heightmap that looks just as bland as Cyrodiil.

That's a real pity to hear I have to say... But then I wonder, how did DA and FLESH do it?

Please do specify, and if you can, please do.

Ok, then we'll head two questions ago
When will you start?

It won't take months to do, DA and FLESH did theirs within a week I
believe. A lot of discussion between them, so ask them how they did
things. Also, who's going to generate the actual regions?

When we have the tright tilesets... I want the regions.... if you guys
don't mind it would be cool for me if I could mae the raw landscape and
the natural stuff... while city makers make their cities and other
settlements... |

So, you want a bland Cyrodiil-looking Vvardenfell? And,
besides, there really isn't much in the way of specific geographical
regions/features in various areas of their landmasses, so generating
worked for them. However, with Vvardenfell and its VERY varied
landscape, generating almost definately wouldn't work out well. This post has been edited 1 time(s), it was last edited by Axen: 2006.08.12 19:48.

We could use it as a placeholder at most until someone can edit it,
that is all I'm suggesting. But if you really want to hand-make ALL of
the landscape (that is a lot of cells), then I suggest you at least
generate it first, then edit it to your liking. BTW: The scale is now
12 * 12 OB cells per 1 * 1 MW Cell.
