vvardenfell trolls' appearance...? |
|
what should trolls in Vvardenfell look like?
they will be in the Sheogorad mostly so it will be a lot of swimming
and island hopping. They will have to adapt to a maritime environment
that is somewhat cool but not cold, and quite moist.
Therefore I think they will look more like amphibians rather than
monkies. They will still ratain the troll look... but notice how trolls
quickly adapt into new species.... the Udefrykte was an ancient breed
of Northern troll, they had two eyes and thick black fur... the Grahl
are snow trolls with blubbery hides and tusks and shorter, thicker
bodies to adapt to the cold environment of the north. The Cyrodiilic
trolls are hariy and lanky like apes...
so what would trolsl living in the Sheogorad look like? ....beastly looking salamanders/frogs?
This is the revised story of the Goblins, Durzogs, and trolls coming to Morrowind.

Goblins have been long used as frontline troops or cannon-fodder. The
Altmer had a tradition of training them and using them to take the
brunt of the enmy in battle. So it came to no surprise to a certain
group of goblin tribes when a group of Altmer came to their camps to
recruit their tribes for war. The goblins were loaded onto a small
fleet of large Dunmer slave-barges and shipped to Morrowind. However,
more than half of the fleet was shickwrecked on the shores of the
Sheogorad archipelago. Three ships remained to sail around the eastern
shore of Vvardenfell (away from Imperial coastal guard) and sailed down
the Thir River. Helseth then arranged for the goblins to be smuggled
into the wilderness outside of Mournhold / Almalexia (city) where part
of Old Mournhold was still above ground. The goblins were forced to dig
through until they reached what was underneath the Godsreach section of
Mournhold's inner-circle. Armion and Yarnar trained them.
However, two other tribes were shipwrecked on the Sheogorad. About half
of them died, including the trolls and durzogs brought on the voyage.
However, the trolls quickly adapted to the new environment. The Durzogs
and goblins quickly made lairs and caverns to dwell in. Later their
warchiefs would contact Valenvaryon's orcs in hopes of partaking in the
emerging Betmeri League. One group of Goblins was also brought down to
Nchurdamz by the Telvanni at the request of betmeri warlords living in
the Sadrith Forest. Soon the survivprs of the two shipwrecked tribes
made their homes on Vvardenfell... Gormflang in the Sheogorad, and
Nchurdamz on the edge of the Sadrith Forest.
Sheogorad Tribe: Warchief Ulug & Dukag
Gormflang is a goblin warren composed of a series of caverns and
tunnels dug underground. It is a colony of goblins ruled by its two
Warchiefs. Durzogs and many trolls also make this their home.
Sadrith-forest Tribe: Warchief Kagroc & Ufthak
Nchurdamz has become a goblin fortresswhich is not their home but the
hills on either side have cave-dwellings for the Goblins and Durzogs.
The strongest of goblins are garrisoned within Nchurdamz with their
Warchiefs. |

I would say that we do a reskin of the cyrodill troll, maybe using some
slimy/scaly oblivion textures... but if someones willing to model it
i'd say to make it similar to the creature from the black lagoon
and I like the new backstory

I agree with Batman. Something with webbed feet and ampibious. Maybe
make it only come out at night. That would be eery to see one of those
things rise out of the fog covered water

yes... I think they should have full time water breathing and swimming too...
it would be weird to have them "walking" underwater on the seafloor... yet kinda cool

Ebony: Do you mean Gollum, Gottum?
I think they should swim on the surface or just wade through shallow
swamps. When I was a little kid in Florida, I lived near a swamp, and I
always had nightmares of something coming out of the sludge and
attacking

Tamriel Rebuilt did both a Sea Troll and a Swamp Troll... maybe we
could look to them for inspiration? You can check them out by
downloading the Objects of Tamriel pack from their website.

yeah, I would be looking for something not quite as aquaic as the sea-troll and not quite as swampy as the samp-trolls....
I have a drawing in the works.... but it is far from completion in my opinion...

Well here's what the troll in Cyrodiil apparantly looks like: http://www.elderscrolls.com/images/art/o..._concept07B.jpg
- do we want to take that idea and just alter it a bit? Maybe not even
make a new model, but rather just take the troll that comes with
Oblivion and re-texture it? Or there's also the troll Lady E did... any
thoughts on that?

The trolls adapt to new ecosystems quite well, so we want to keep the
"basic" look and structure, but alter things like skin, muscle
structure etc. that helps with the enviroment. Like instead of fur,
bear skin would be much better in a swamp enviroment

I think... 2-3 eyes... muscular... large arms.... shorter legs with webbing....
something SIMILAR to the TR sea-trolls of TamrielRebuilt, but more landish.... a "grotto troll"....

So perhaps we could take a troll from Oblivion, and re-texture it to
make it have slimey muddy turqouise skin instead of green fur? Although
I don't know about the webbing... maybe the model could be brought into
a program to have the webbing added...

Well if we make them scaley that would be a change from mammalian to
reptilian, and i'm not sure we'd want to change them that much. do we?

I have played Warcraft2, Warcraft3, and Wolrd of Warcraft.... Murlocs,
yes, I like 'em, and they were so ripped from Final Fantasy or
whatever... those surdoka or something (I don't remeber name)
they are somewhat mammilian creatures... not reptilian.... I have a
drawing coming of what I think the sheogorad troll woul dbe like... so
hold on tight dudes ....e-hehehe

hmm....
with the look of an amphiuma....
1, 2
and sort of a leopard seal look....
1, 2
but with the basic physique of a troll... trollish
but more streamlined for cool coastal waters and ambushing prey near the coast or their watery dens...
so I am thinking strong, thick paddle-ish arms but ending in claws but
poor for holding, but for paddlingand clubbing, perfect.... and a thick
torso... and shorter legs but webbed.... the head woul be
semi-reptilian is structure but seal-like on the outside, and the
overall look somewhat like a mammal-like amphiuma or a amphibian-like
leopard seal... |

I think that's a perfect idea. would the facial structure still be
similar to the stock troll with the ape-like mouth, huge teeth, and 3
eyes?
god I hope we (the elder scrolls community and/or bethesda) can figure
out a wak to export nifs from Oblivion... it would open up so many neat
new possibilities of we could do things like export the troll and then
just edit him in 3d studio and re-import him as a new troll.
if anything maybe I could at least apply the stock troll's animations
to the new troll so they move the same? hm... we'll have to see I
guess.

So swamps would make a streamlined, but scaly skin, extra sharp teeth
capable of ripping apart the tough skin of nearby animals, and the
ability to swim on both land and sea

this is the real deal here like come this calls moist, cool sea waters.
Why well they can swim fast, run fast, agility is very good, underwater
eyes, scales for the water, live in grotto damp moist caves, live with
others. A sheogoard troll wouldn't need to have lots of muscles why?
Well it reallys on ambush and suprize attacks to catch its prey off
guard. Say a adult male goes to fetch water reachs down to fill it up
with water then is pulled under and dragged away to the nearest grotto
cave. The sheogoard trolls are ment for water not land. Ebonyknight has attached this image (reduced version):

quick to adapt to their new enviroment they need to change so they can
continue to live. Its like puttin a monkey in the middle of the artic
and tellin it theres no bannanas any where at all

there are two paths we can take....
- marine mammal looking... the troll will resemble a
marine mammal like a seal or something in the sense that it can swim
and go on land as well and retain mammilian features... I was thinking
like a leopard seal in some respects....
leopard seal, etc.: 1, 2, 3
- amphibious looking..... the troll will be salamander-ish....
that is not saying it is not a mammal, but has adapted to the point
where amphibian traits are apparent and the mammilian traits are
recedding.... looking like a hellbender
hellbender (giant salamander): 1, 2
I like the hellbender idea myself.... but the leopard seal is so cute, yet so ferocious, and... probably tasty

I'm pointing more towards the seal for sheogarad
Though the hellbender is a good concept if we decide to make a swamp troll too

no, but speculation does not hurt
so that in case we do, then we know what to do....
and the idea of it is exactly what we are discussing

It shouldnt be too hard to make a vvardenfell troll. Just a reskin.
Though we may want to finish the original tes3 creatures first

RE: vvardenfell trolls' appearance...? |
|
I'm for the whole idea going so far but I think they should have a bit
more body fat then the Cyrodill goblins but still pretty thin and I
think they should only spend daylight hours in the water and try and
spend the night hours on land while the area itself may not be too cold
the water would be freazing due to the spesific heat of water (i.e
water at the same temprature as the air will feel much colder than the
air) I would like them to have a lot of fat but you also have to
remember that they are preadetors so would need to be very athletic to
catch its food/PC

Here's an image I dug up out of the old D&D archives which is what I picture when I think of an aquatic troll.
Just my 2 pennies....

As cool as some of the creatures from D&D are, I think we should
stray as much as possible from copying their appearance, because
whenever Elder Scrolls creatures have shared the same name as a D&D
creature, it's usually totally different looking. From what I can tell,
Bethesda wants it to be established that trolls on Nirn are very
ape-like. I think we should stick to that theme. I actually think the
Cyrodiil trolls look like they'd fit in perfectly with the Bitter Coast
- Their fur already looks like moss even... but if we are to make a
different breed for Vvardenfell I vote just doing a re-skin of the
Cyrodiil troll with maybe changed hands & feet to add the webbing,
as opposed to completely changing the shape of it's body and/or face.

We may want to just give the troll a wet look to its fur and thats it. I know its simple but it makes sense.
Moss and all
Oh, and Shunoshi has the same Avatar as me

I totally agree
or if you stand in a tidal pool for long enough you get swarmed by mudcrabs
otherwise if you just walk through they leave you alone

hmm... I say we skip the troll for now as it is a low priority thing
but if we ever feel the need, I think a simpel retexture would do...

By the way... what about having ash trolls? We could retexture the base
trolls to have tough dark gray skin instead of fur, like an elephant or
rhino's skin, and give them glowing red eyes... what do you think?

She Skyrim team has a similar troll to what you're describing, just with yellow eyes.

hmm... I dunno if we will still go for the troll idea, but instead of a
troll, maybe some sort of related creature... there are many breeds of
trollish beasts, maybe ONE survives somewhere on Vvardenfell... who
knows...

Those scalon creatures give a good idea or base idea of which we can
build off of. Like Deep Dwellers or People of the Water not civilized
at all just stay together to hunt and breed.
