In danger of derailing the thread here, I know - but wasn't there a great idea somewhere of having the Argonian language be unintelligible to hear and get a suitable subtitle only if the player owned the "widget of comprehension" or whatever the maguffin was called? If Xae's unparallelled sound skills (shameless flattery) can produce suitable soundfiles for Argonians and Paatru (?sp?) that could see off a fair amount of language work.

Edit: "Seigneur" - Woot!

Also in danger of rerailing the thread, but here's my quick answer:

Yes, there is a widget and it's modeled/done. Yes, I remember us talking about such a possible use for it. Will that use for it happen? - I don't know. IG still knows things I don't, regarding the main quest and certain other things.

Yes, it's certainly a good idea. The Paatru would definitely be a good choice since they are a very isolated and secretive people. And the Naga are just not the type to learn a second language. Sarpa are rare. But I'm not so sure about Argonians although some of the tribes might well be unintelligible at first. If a suitable 'sound randomiser' was used to create the sounds then, provided there was enough variety, a generic 'marsh-language' could be created for any suitable NPCs.

I put these remarks in the relevant thread: The Argonian Native Language .
Hello I am looking forward to working on this project I really want to see Black Marsh in the game. I will see if i can do anything you ask of me Thank you so much.
Hi Ninevene. Nice to have you with us. So that you can contribute esps to the main esm, you will need a modder's abbreviation. This means that any esp you submit to be merged with the main esm will be recognised as your work. How's NV? Therefore, an esp based on Gideon Fighter's Guild will be called something like BMNVGideonFG01. The last number is the version of the esp you have been working on as it's recommended you make versions in case of errors or corrections.

Hi Ninevene,

Besides what Ibsen told you, new potential members are supposed to post in this thread:

New Modders Start Here

Just FYI.

Also, have you had any modding experience before? Are there any samples of previous modding work you can show us?

The following members have their membership in question:

  • PrettyMurky
  • Apollyna

I no longer tolerate hangers-on, as the OP of this thread describes. You must contribute something to the project or you will be removed. Furthermore, I am hearing nothing from any of these members about what they would like to work on or whether they are absent using the absentee thread: Post here when you go away . It does annoy me and interrupt progress when people just join and contribute nothing. It's dishonest, distracting to the team, interferes with our admin and is just plain annoying!

How's about we institute a hard-line policy that mere enthusiasm gets you nothing? If you want to join, you immediately get assigned a task for which you must meet a reasonable deadline.

If you don't complete it, that's the end of it.
If you complete it and it's awful, that's the end of it.
If you complete it and it's fair but not good, you get a second chance.
If you complete it and it's good/great, you're officially a member.

Then you display what you can do in practice in order to get a chance at some of the good stuff. In other words, it means nothing if you simply call yourself a writer. Though it may be technically true, it's completely irrelevant to the situation at hand. Essentially, show some skill or make like a tree.
 Yes, that's a good policy. I like having people's contributions but yes, ahem, make like a tree!
I've made, like, a tree or two. Does that make me a member?
