- Ysne - 04-08-2007 I hope you get well quickly. I keep losing concentration everytime I start working on the web site. Fibro + severe chronic depression really bites. Its why I probably won't ever be able to work again. - Kodama - 04-08-2007 Ahhwww... ok, get well soon Kielanai  I wish i could go to a Japanese festival every week, they are awesome! :bananarock:  Mon Question - Kielanai - 04-14-2007 Ysne, I'm sorry to hear you have chronic conditions. When health is poor, the whole life is affected. My concentration suffers really bad when I'm not feeling well, but so many other things are not possible when health fails. And I'm still very, very sick a week later. What I thought was a little cold turned out to be the flu and went straight into my lungs, turning into pneumonia. This was a very bad week, not just for being so sick, but the way everything else was, too. For example, by Friday I was out of juice, tissues, and some other necessities, and I had been expecting a package at the post office that I didn't want to risk being returned just because I was too sick to pick it up. So, in spite of my high fever, I went out and did these things. Have you ever done errands on a high fever? Not only was my concentration way off, but I was dripping with cold sweat or chilling the whole time, and I had no voice from all the coughing. Just awful. But, then I came home and went to the sink to grab a glass of water ... No water!!! The ONE thing I absolutely can NOT do without during this kind of illness is water!!! It did come back on after some time, but the shower still sputters in bursts of hot and cold, so something's not right. And last night the electricity went out right after I went to bed! I was finally able to sleep in my futon again (on my stomach only) instead of sitting upright in a chair, but I still have to get up every so often because of coughing; only this time I had no lights! It came back on this morning, but then went out again, and then came on again. Frustrating events, but extra frustrating when sick. X( So, I have not been doing much of anything but trying to sleep and take care of myself. However, between my naps, I'm rediscovering TV. I had so many computer projects going on that I basically stopped watching TV some time ago. So, I am actually enjoying this whole new batch of shows. I have cried with "Aitai" (good for stuffy noses to have a good cry) and laughed (barked?) with "Fufudo" (laughter always a good medicine), and seriously wondered what people were thinking when they made samurai movies back in ... well, I have no idea what year that movie was made, or even what it was called. It was just ... so fake. (cringe) But, I found myself taking notes on their attire, and it occured to me that I didn't even ask if you preferred the mon size to be small like what you would really see. Most mon are small and you can barely see what the design is unless you are close to it. That's part of the reason I've been making them big. This is art, so I felt the design would be nice to see. However, if you're wanting real samurai effect, I should be making them small. Which do you prefer? Most uniforms were of course indigo with white mon, many were black and white, some were gold and black (like the picture you posted), but I've also seen several real kamishimo that were a pale light blue. I have an anchor mon where an anchor is circled by rope that I thought would go nice with water color. Does that sound like a combination you could use? And then I have tsurugi (three sword mon) that I think I can do in indigo and white. Do these sound useable? - Kodama - 04-14-2007 Ok now i'm worried about you, just get well ok? Don't go outside your house with high fever, seriously... I don't watch much TV anymore, too many commercials and all the TV shows and movies are VERY OLD, i hate the re-runs of old shows. I always pay attention to what samurai are wearing in movies. When i watched "The Last Samurai" all i was thinking about was how fake everthing was, not historically accurate, the armors looked like they were made of latex rubber and the armor style looked like it was from about 1580AD instead of 1878AD, very bad fighting scenes... BLECH! I prefer any old black and white samurai movie over The Last Samurai  Anyway, the size of the mon has always been a bit of a problem, too small and you can't see it anymore, too large and it's unrealistic. The visibility of the mon is the most important thing, but if you can keep them visible at a small size, that would be best. The colors of the kimishimo you have seen are common for the Edo jidai, but around 1580, uniforms were more colorfull, even the common foot soldiers had nice clothes. Your ideas for mon and kamishimo colors sound good to me :check: - Corthian - 04-14-2007 I just recorded Seven Samurai, I haven't gotten a chance to watch it yet, but expect new clothing based on the wardrobe in the movie. I love Seven Samurai so much, I have so many projects going I don't have time to watch it. - Beremat - 04-14-2007 Kielanai, I really hope you are feeling better now... I wonder if anyone still remembers me? I started to do some work of my own and stuff... nothing interesting. Now i'm learning some Blender. Seems pretty easy. If anyone is willing to give me some lessons, through MSN or even PM, I'd really love it...:banana: - Kodama - 04-15-2007 :alert: Corthian, MAKE time to watch Seven Samurai, that movie is awesome! Beremat ofcourse i remember you, welcome back!  Feeling Better - Kielanai - 04-15-2007 Little by little ... Don't worry. I'll be okay. Thank you, everyone, for your concern. I think I can return to some of my normal activities on Monday and just keep up my fluids. Nothing too physical this week, though. Yes, Beremat, I remember you. I have done very little with Blender, sorry. Someday I will take the time to learn, but right now there are too many other computer projects waiting. As for the costumes in the movie, I don't have enough sense of history to be able to place them well, and unfortunately I am more likely to flip past the samurai show to watch something like "Hey!Hey!Hey!" (music celebrities are interviewed by and play games with a couple of comedians -- usually very funny). I guess that's why I'm trying hard to pay attention when I come across it now. I will try to shrink the mon for a more authentic look -- may redo the others, too, depending on time. I was able to backup my computer today and label some video, so I may try to work on one of them tonight. - Kodama - 04-15-2007 Great to hear you are feeling better now =) Knowing a lot about something can sometimes make a good movie look very bad, that's why i prefer Kurosawa's movies like Seven Samurai, Ran and Kagemusha, they are very correct. It's too bad that most of those movies are black and white, but i don't mind that much, that's how good they are RE: Feeling Better - Beremat - 04-15-2007 I've seen some of your work, Kielanai, and I think it is excellent. What program do you use? |
