RE: Problems with content converter - Galadrielle - 10-03-2007

I don't know if this is the right place to ask but I am having some problems with Galadrielle's content converter. I have it installed and I can go to Morrowind and explore the contryside fine but the game crashes when I go to the cities.
In version 0.93 there is still a bug with Ghogiel bonemold armors, texture files are not copied by the program, you have to do it manually (just copy "Textures" folder from my program folder to Oblivion "Data" folder).

This seems to be a great tool to make placeholders which can be replaced later. Seems like a great program, good job :goodjob:
No lava? - john44 - 10-04-2007
I have been running around checking out the worldspace. I am not having any crashes now, but I don't see any lava where it should be. Does the converter do lava yet? Also can't activate Ghost Gate doors or Dwemer Crank handles. One more thing it dosen't seem neccessary to rename Morrowind.esm file this has no effect that I can see. The morrowind.esm file runs through the esp converter just fine. I have noticed that the file that the esp converter changes in size every time I input the same Morrowind.esm file. What is the largest size output file I should expect to see?

^I think the lava should appear as water. I might be wrong, though, a question best left to Lightwave.

Thanks, I am just not sure about what the present limits of the content converter are. I am trying to fix little things that the converter does'nt do, to learn a few modding skills. I have made a simple map to use to navigate with. I have noticed that beds and benches don't work. I read that Oblivion uses furniture markers and that Morrowind used scripts to sleep in beds. I am trying to figure out a way to use the imported beds for sleeping right now. I seems that Nifskope 1.00 and 0.98 won't load Obivion Furniture bed or benches Nifs. The older Nifscope 0.96 will load the Oblivion bed and benches Nifs but the furniture markers don't line up with the converted Morrowind beds. The furniture maker is 90 degrees out of line with the bed. Maybe I can load the converted beds into Blender and rotate the axis to line things up I will try again tomorow.

About the landmasses scale. I always envisioned swimming from the mainland to vvardenfell. Now with ST working on the mainland and you guys working on vvardenfell....wouldn't the landmass be to scale with ST's mainland? Unless ST is to scale with Cyrodill then i guess VVardenfell would be to small.
However if the vvardenfell is bigger then ST's mainland then won't vvardenfell not fit anymore with the mainland circling it? unless it has its own worldspace in which case i wont be able to swim to it
The only way to make it big and to at the same time be able to swim to it means ST would have to be off scale with cyrodill. Which leads me to this question....is ST on a bigger scale then Cyrodill?
I know the above questions probably make no sense at all =)

Seperate worldspace, no swimming here.

Seems like a very good tool. I'm trying it out right now. Although I would recommend more user-friendliness. As for the legality, you could mod the converted .esp, just not distribute the meshes, textures and sounds. Let the tool do it. The problem(s) is(are) that:
- converted meshes, textures and land textures (I mean vanilla Oblivion land textures are more diverse) don't look that good because they were made way before Oblivion's time
- it works only for those who have Morrowind
- it doesn't seem to be possible to convert everything (Bloodmoon and Tribunal) into one single file.
The SoVvM Team will not be using it though, as we've already done most of the landscape with only some land texture bugs needing to be fixed. We've also agreed to not make a mod that is dependent on another mod, official or not, or tool other than the Construction Set (like OBSE or this one).

I'm using converted placeholder pieces in Ebonheart right now. Scales are a little off from Zarf's Imperial tileset, but it fills in the gaps pretty well. I mean I've already found an effective use for it, it works.
