... I think this program is legitimate, legally. On that french thread I could see they managed to convert Morrowind into Oblivion. Not just the landmass, but everything else along with it. There must be some way that we can make use of this program, for placeholder meshes if nothing else.

Are you sure it's worth risking anything though?

We cannot convert any meshes from MW with it, I don't think. What could it be used for, do you think (other than converting MW Meshes)?

We can't distribute meshes, true. But I checked the thread Galadrielle linked, it was in french but I could tell from the pics that she had converted the entire morrowind esm, meshes and everything. I need to see how this program works, and see if there is some way to write an INI file or something to tell the converter which meshes to convert when somebody downloads, say, VVc9Ebonheart with the mesh converter. If we could do that, we would have an effective system of placeholder meshes. Then we wouldn't have to wait for assets to be made to work on certain content (thinking more in terms of tilesets).

Alright, once I get back, I'll try it with the velothiSmall tileset or something. See if we convert the meshes, build an interior, then go back and replace the mesh files with silgrad types without any problems. I was thinking of making placeholders for something like the VelothiLarge set or something that would end up being relatively the same shape when and updated set is modelled.

Hey, this program can greatly speed up development! Now we can do the original TES4VV tilesets and make interiors of all kinds simulataneously, without waiting for the tilesets coming out first!

I've long been able to place meshes using TESPort (back in December in fact), but the legality of mesh conversion and ease of batch conversion has always been a stumbling block.

Providing people don't lose track of which meshes and textures are illegit for redistribution and which have been user made then the mesh conversion program could be really handy. I've got a program laying around called TES4scale which I can use to replace all the placed Morrowind.esm statics back on the scaled up landscape. It'd take a bit of modification, but that's what it's there for.

I don't know how Galadrielle has handled the tga textures, since I think TES4 only handles dds textures. Maybe they have to be converted too (and the meshes told to point at the different filename).

But maybe you want to stick to region generation since everything will be more spread out anyway. Towns are going to have to be done mostly from scratch anyway. I suppose having the locations of ruins and tombs already placed would be additionally handy, they're less easy to pin-point.

Or you could just have the list of STATs handy and continue to hand-place/region generate everything using the placeholders ... what do you folks think?

I think that sounds pretty good actually. We might as well fill the land temporarily. As long as it's safe to use I'm okay with that. :yes: I wonder what others think.

aye it only uses dds. also normal maps must be generated.

My vote , concerning modding projects such as this one, is not to convert and place any tes3 game assets in a oblivion esm/esp. Unless its cool with beth then its still sketchy imo. on your own pc with your own games sure give it a shot and have some fun. not sure how wise it is to get it mixed up in a mod destined for relz.

I agree with Ghogiel.
Its not really worth taking the risk of having this project shut down. And even if Beth says okay, it may still cause problems.
Though I'd love to use it, I dont want to all our work to go down in flames. As long as its for personal use, they cant do anything, but distributing it is suicide.
Just my two sense.
