I'm happy to hear from you Keilanai. I'm glad you are still with us. You have great talent.

- Kodama - 06-07-2007

OooooOoooo! :pop:

Nice uniforms! :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:
They look absolutely perfect :goodjob: thank you very much Kielanai.

... I can't believe i missed your previous post :eek: (sometimes that happens because these forums will only show a post is new for less then a day).

PS. The combination of women and spiders is usually very fun Tongue
Heh heh... spiders freak me out too Confusedhh:
Big Grin

Not Fun Combination! - Kielanai - 06-14-2007

Bad combination ... especially the spiders here are very BIG!! I think they eat crows or something.

Glad to know the uniforms work. Smile I have tried the other meshes a little, but haven't produced anything worth keeping yet. I think I will have to make a whole new set of templates for some of them, so that may be a while.

I think I will try to write a couple of books for the game first. Those should be relatively easy.

By the way, this may be off-topic, but I finally have enough money saved to order myself a real taiko (no more gomitaiko for home practice!). I would like to put a drum script on my taiko model eventually, so if I learn how to do that, if you need drum sound, I can try to record some for you. (I can leave out "hai" and "sore" shouts, so not to break the atmosphere.) Wink I don't know when this will be, or even if it will work, but I thought I would offer, if it sounds like something you could use.

I have been trying to figure out how to upload videos and wav files with new camera software. I have a lot of problems because what looks good in my camera and software look blurry when uploaded. And after upload timing is REALLY awful. Sad There is a 2-4 second delay between what is seen and what is heard, ... and in taiko that is really bad. You expect to hear "don, don, don" when bachi hit, hit, hit ... ne? If no one is touching the drum and it's mysteriously playing ahead of the drummer, something is very wrong. So, until I figure out how to fix that, I tried to upload photographs over a soundtrack only. But then my photographs came out blurry, too. Sad

For now, for fun, I can share a sample of my team playing, here: Ayumi Faces, places, blisters, and Totoro and hanabi tatami may appear blurry, but sound is good. This is just some favorite things to go with one of my favorite songs to play. This is "Ayumi", a song about hard work and diligence.

Edit: Maybe now my link works ...

- Kodama - 06-14-2007

For a moment, i thought you said "I think they eat COWS or something" :eek: those spiders would have to be HUGE :lmao:

The link works :check:

Good to know you can buy a real taiko now =)
I really like the sample of your team playing, and i like the shouts too :goodjob:
Too bad the pictures are a bit blurry, i hope you can fix it, they are very nice pictures.
And it would be awesome if you could get the video to work, are you on any of the pictures? The blistered hand, right? Big Grin

I would like to have a sample for Oblivion, it should be possible to script the game so the taiko makes sound, but i don't know how to do that.
I know nothing about scripting, so we will need to ask a good scripter to help us with that.

Maybe they do! - Kielanai - 06-15-2007

Maybe that is why Japan doesn't have many cows. Maybe the dairy cows are kept in Aomori and Hokkaido because it is too cold for spiders. Tongue Hehehe ... (I wish ...)

I fixed the blur on the photographs! Big Grin So, here is a new link to better "Ayumi": http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3337263553442107688 Now you can see Hirosaki castle, iaidou demonstration, nou masks being carved, origami dolls, bonsai (that tree is 120 years old), and the fantastic Totoro hanabi tatami next to my gomitaiko. ^_^ (My cat looks like a black Totoro, so I buy stupid Totoro things when I spot them. She likes the smell of new, fresh tatami, so I thought it was cute that she wanted to nap on it.)

Yes, the blistered hand is mine. :poorme: I live with those kinds of blisters frequently because I'm trying to harden the skin rather than taping over it. I have a new one inside of my thumb right now that is annoying me. I'm not in other pictures because I took them. They are all friends or teammates -- except the man playing taiko by himself. That is Kiyo-san, the creator of Namahage taiko I mentioned some time ago. (I'm still trying to design a Namahage costume in his honor for the game, but not having much luck because it's hard to get the straw part to look like straw. I think I will just have to invent my own costume and name it in honor of the namahage.) ... I only managed to get the rest of the team this time because I hurt my hip and couldn't play for a while. I stood backstage and in the audience to move drums, take pictures, and help yell. ^_^ But I am back now, and it feels good to be back, in spite of having to deal with blisters all over again.

Stripped of the extras, so it's only drums, it could sound like dark dungeon music or something. So, if I produce anything like that, I can share with the project. ^_^

- Kodama - 06-15-2007

Cool.

It would be even better if we could have npc's play music instruments, and the player too Smile

Possible! - Beremat - 06-16-2007

Fully possible! I saw a thread on ES Forums where someone actually sent a animation from Blender directly into Oblivion.

Lol! - Kielanai - 06-18-2007

That would be fun. An Akavir version of Nebuta Matsuri or something -- people drumming in the streets, and then the animations that put together look like dancing aroudn them, ... and then put the wobbly drunks on the sidelines behind the dancers ... Big Grin

Okay, so that wouldn't be very practical for routine AI set up. Tongue But it would be interesting to have something like that as an atmosphere thing. Or to turn into a bard option? Kielanai is a bard, but other than speechcraft skill, this game really wasn't designed for bards, ... even though that is an option in the classes. Sad Bards would earn the majority of their living by traveling and entertaining, rather than routinely looting dungeons in wilderness. I have not had much luck at finding a good bard mod, and I can't script so I haven't been able to make one myself. I had to find creative ways to improvise. (Drawn up a limitations chart, use the console to pay her, use one mod for a lute model, one mod for dance spell, another mod for a music box, ... still waiting on one that allows her to scribe new books but until then use one that allows her to copy old books, etc.) If models and sounds of other Asian instruments could be gathered (possibly animations too), maybe there could be a stage somewhere that if the personality and intelligence is high enough, a PC could equip something necessary to the instrument and earn a little extra money by doing one or two shows a day, ... like with the official "Entertainers" plug-in for Morrowind. Again, I don't know scripting so I can't offer to do this, or I would have done it for myself long before now. But if there is anything like this included, I can at least supply drums.

Akavir Folktales - Kielanai - 06-19-2007

Something a little different from me this time. I have at least two Japanese folk tales that I think could be adapted to the game. This first one is related to the namahage taiko I've mentioned before. The original legend comes from Akita prefecture, which is right next to me. I just went camping there this past weekend, and sitting at the foot of the mountain while looking up at the stars made me realize this had to be my first attempt to adapt a folk tale to Akavir.

I'm fairly familiar with what Bethesda has had to say about Akavir, but I haven't been able to thoroughly read the mythologies developed for this project. So, what I share here is the plain version, and you can tell me how to edit it to be more specific. For example, I wasn't sure to use "namahage" or "akai oni" or "snow demon" or "demon from Kamel", etc. Also, there are several versions of the original legend -- I changed it more because I was trying to make it fit more like Akavir. Anyway, I'm open to ideas how to make a better fit. (I will do a final proof before adding to file.)

<div align="center"><font face=1><br>
Legend of the Namahage<br>
<br>
<div align="left"><IMG src="Book/fancy_font/a_70x61.dds" width=70 height=61>Long ago, long ago, during the age of humans, a powerful sorcerer from the western desert came to this southeastern coastal region. With him he brought five conjured demons. The sorcerer tried to conquer us and failed, but his demons found a way to bind themselves to this mortal life before his death. They remained behind and began to prey upon the people.<br>
<br>
The demons stole women from the villages and kept them to breed more demons. They stole children from the villages to feast upon them. The people lived in fear of the shadow of the demons from the high mountains of snow. They prayed to the gods for aid, but the gods did not hear their small voices. When they tried to think of a way that they might be heard, they remembered the creator of a sacred sound -- the demon who played his drum in the heavens to create thunder. So, they played their large drums to accompany their prayers. The plight of the people vibrated with the heartbeat of the land and was lifted through the mountains high into the sky where all spirits could hear it. Finally, annoyed and shamed before the other creatures of the higher realms, the demons agreed to speak with them.<br>
<br>
The humans challenged the demons to a deal. If the demons could build a thousand-step stairway from the village into the heavens before morning, they would let them have their women and children without a fight, forever, to honor their cunning and power. However, if the demons failed to complete the task by sunrise, they were to leave the humans alone in honor of human cunning and power. Thinking to gain complete victory over the humans, the demons agreed to the deal.<br>
<br>
The demons set about their task of building the stairs from the bottom of the village up the side of the snowy mountain. They worked through the night and had most of the steps done by dawn, so the villagers began to worry that they had given the demons too easy a task. Then, one wise, old man from the village had an idea. He grabbed a rooster from his farm, and just as the demons completed the 999th step, he plucked a tail feather. The rooster crowed loud and strong, as it usually does at every sunrise. The demons were shocked, but thinking the cock had crowed to announce the coming light of a new day, they lay down their tools. When the sun did not rise moments later, they realized they had been tricked, but the true sunrise was too close to complete the final stair.<br>
<br>
Because the demons admired the resourcefulness of the humans, they agreed to honor their promise and leave the women and children alone. They said they would prey only upon the beast folk instead. But, because the humans resorted to trickery, during that one time of the year when the snow thaws so they can decend into the lowlands once more, the red and blue faced demons promised to return in search of children who had been deceitful, disobedient, and lazy.<br>
<br>
Since that long ago time, every summer, when the snow melts on the mountain tops, the demons have descended upon the human villages in a different manner before pillaging the beastfolk. Dressed in straw and carrying great knives, the horned demons knock on the village doors to ask if there are any bad children the parents would like to be rid of. If the parents say "no", they offer the demons a cup of rice wine in gratitude for honoring their promise.<br>
<br>
But if you have been a lazy child who has not honored your parents, ...

- DIE 75 - 06-19-2007

I love the story!

I think its perfect material for a book. I think it could be a book from an old human settlement near the mountains of Kamal. Maybe it could be a story about how this small village made a pact with the Kamal before the Tsaesci began hunting the humans which forced them to leave the settlement.

Great stuff Kielanai!!! :goodjob:
