I mentioned this in the old board, and here's a changed version to go
with our new lore. Really the only similarity is I reused names.
Vost - Land
Rev - fertile, welcoming
Twys - City
Less than a century after the Battle of the Arch, the Drethmer and
Cresmer were back to an all out war. This time, due to a great fire in
the Cresmer lands, causing food shortages. They wanted the fertile land
of the Vostrever plains, the main agricultural center for the Drethmer.
The Drethmer had built a series of fortifications along their border
under the command of Ulaan, the Drethmer defensive commander shortly
after the Senmer's defeat decades earlier. He, however, failed to
construct acceptable defenses along the Hosmeri border, which they
believed impassible. The Cresmer general in charge of the offensive,
Alseriur Ghyen, made a daring and unprovoked assault through the
Hosmer, sacrificing a small part of his force to distract the Hosmeri
forces, and once Alseriur's army passed through the mountains into the
foothills north of the Vostrever, the Hosmer did not pursue, wishing
not to implicate themselves in war if at all possible.
Ulaan, knowing full well that properly engaging the Cresmeri forces
would be suicidal, wore away at them with constant harassment from his
archers and mages. Only once did Alseriur's force capture a party of
Ulaan's skirmishers, he hanged them all except for their leader, whose
eyes he put out and sent back to the Drethmer as a warning. This only
served to enrage them further, sending more skirmishers, even at one
point making a raid on their animals, killing or capturing a quarter of
their mounts. Alseriur felt his defeat looming upon him. Desperately,
he ordered his soldiers to invade the small city of Twysrev, the only
large settlement in the Vostrever. The town guard fought valiantly, but
they were few in number, ill equipped, and their best troops were with
Ulaan's army, who had stopped the raids to regroup and restock a day's
march away. They stood no chance against a professional army. The
people of Twysrev were slaughtered. Those who hid in the caves were
smoked out, their mangled bodies hung from the town walls, mocking
Ulaan's army in their failiure to defend their people. Here, Alseriur
hoped to hold out until his messengers could get to his superiors and
send for reinforcements, so he had reinforced the town's defenses,
improving the walls, towers, and constructed some defensive weapons. He
did hold out, Ulaan's forces not prepared to lay seige to their own
city. They kept Alseriur in there, but the town was easy to defend; not
only were the walls good, and all the wooden sections quickly but
securely replaced with iron or stone. Water was plentiful, as like most
Drethmeri cities, the caves led to a fresh water spring, plants thrived
in the soil outside, and fungi in the caves. Ulaan knew that if the
reinforcements came before the winter, they were doomed. He sent
emissaries to the Hosmer, begging them to go to war with the Cresmer,
to fight off the ones who remained in their land. The Hosmer council
refused, but a small army of hot-blooded volunteers heeded this
message, using the mountains to their advantage. As the Cresmer marched
through the passes, they set off avalanches. When the Cresmer persued
them, they trapped them in caves and dead ends, killing them with
rocks, arrows, and spells. When any were captured, they had scrolls
with explosive spells, which killing them and anyone close by.
This force routed the Cresmer. Months passes, and Alseriur began to
dispair.Vesmerkaz Trebuchets dotted the horizon like so many trees,
their rock-armored mercenaries training for the upcoming battle, like
so many vicious lions playing, practising the skills they use for the
hunt. Ulaan was prepared to destroy the whole city to stop him, and now
he knew it.
The attack came at night. rocks flew through the sky, leveling the
walls of Twysrev Some very daring Vesmerkaz used themselves as
missiles, using their armor and some spells to make the fall bearable.
Drethmer poured through the broken walls, cutting down the malnourished
Cresmer soldiers. Vesmerkaz mercenaries went straight to Alseriur and
his officers, and had captured him in the span of an hour, brought in
chains to Ulaan. He took his new prisoners to the Council Hall of
Twysrev. He also brought the officer whose eyes Alseriur had put out
the last year. He returned the favor to all of them, not just taking
their eyes, but their hands and feet. He left them to die, blind, and
unable to walk or even drag themselves, in the halls of the city they
had sacked.
A week later, they returned to the stinking corpses of the Cresmer
officers, and decapitated them all. Ulaan had the heads sent in a great
cart pulled by oxen, to the Cresmer king. Except for Alseriur's. His
skull remains a posession of Ulaan's family to this day.

I like it, but I was wondering, could the drethmer not caontact the
ulsmer to come through the spring and harass the forces in the caves,
can it be a vesmerkaz mercenary group that takes twysrev, and can the
cause not be drought, as the heartland is the prime land of the whole
continent, evergreen and ever-fertile.

they asked the Hosmer, not Ulsmer, to harass them in the mountains.
I'll put vesmerkaz in there, and instead of drought... a big fire.

sweet.
I do want other people to flesh out parts of this war more, like name
some particulary heroic Hosmer who fought off the Cresmer, some daring
raiders, et c.

Very amazing, but you said Vesmerkaz mercenaries captured the Cresmer
general and brought them to Ulaan, I thought the Vesmerkas had an
alliance with the Cresmer.

This was before the nations had the alliances they have now. Remember this war was about 2000 years prior to the present.

edited version, changes the Vesmerkaz mercenaries into a group of Hosmeri resistance fighters who showed up for support.

Sounds Impressive. Sorry I have been gone for so long. But I have had a
lot of work, I'm still confident in this mod and will get the war
between the Senmer and Hosmer soon.
