I have two hard drives, an old 40GB where I store the system and a new 300GB one for everything else. So, I was taking my system drive for maintanance to my bro's place (he's got a lot of nifty tools that I can't be bothered to d/l, or learn how to use for that matter) and I dropped the damned thing on the hard stone floor of the subway...

When I started up my Bro's comp with the drive plugged in, it made a sound that can only be described as "vwizip-crunch-crunch-crunch-crunch-crunch" and shorted out the electricity in the whole building :lmao: . It's only practical use now is as a certain Mexican musical instrument, because when you give it a shake the sound it makes is that of Maracas. Dancing Banana

I over at my bro's place right now with my good hard drive installing a new system, I'll be back in the fray by tomorrow evening at the most.

you usualy can Tongue my hasent crashed in several years, since I have done extensive updates to it everytine I need too (a new cooler for my new vid card for example).

I sugest that everyone get a portable hard drive things (dont know what they are called curently) and back EVERYTHING up. especialy if you have files that are necesary to the project (eg. newest maps)

The odds of the power going out is very unlikely. Odds are, if anything, is that the power supply got royally screwed up, because the average computer doesn't even use 30 V... What I'm saying is that either you got something really screwed up with the power supply (very, very unlikely), or the lights never shorted out. Also, if 120 V or whatever did actually get into the system, then the hard drive will most likely not work at all (the whole thing would most likely be burnt out).

Never had any real problems with my new PC which I bought like 2 years ago. The old one's power supply got screwed but it wasn't really worth it all so I only kept HD and sold/trashed everything else.
