What is needed to make High Rock a reality? |
|
Thank you for the invitation to create a new thread. Let me begin with
a quick resume of skills and such, to give you an idea of where I might
be useful.
1. I own (and still play) Arena, Daggerfall, MW + expansions and
Oblivion. I have a detailed walkthrough, "Dran Dreamdark's Guide to TES
Arena" with full maps and such in progress. Been at it about a year and
have finished up to the Crystal Tower. (Serendipity must love me...
this places my character in position to explore the Mines of Khuras and
the Crypt of Hearts in High Rock again for the walkthrough.) If you
want examples of my writing style, I'll happily send Dran's Guide
along. (Lore and writing.)
2. I have some site maintenance skills and familiarity with
PHBBS from helping a friend create and maintain a site for oldskool p+p
role playing. (Don't know if this is useful or not, but thought I'd
mention it.)
3. I have an older version of Photoshop and am reasonably comfortable with it. (Hopefully useful for simpler work in graphics.)
4. I've been an AD+D DM for about 14 years. A few of my
adventures are hosted on the previously mentioned site, in full,
illustrated pdf format, which I cooked up myself. (This might be useful
for advetnure design. Creating those modules required outlining, basic
tile mapping, creative writing skills, organization and use of Word and
Acrobat.)
5. I am learning the Oblivion CS and have found a number of
differences between it and the Morrowind design kit. I have lots to
learn though and am happy to do so. (General modding.)
6. I have several of the modder-created Oblivion utilities, also
have and am familiar with using the 7z program. TES specific utilities
I presently am conversant with include: TES4 Plugin Utility, OBMM, BSA
Commander, TES4 BSA. Have just downloaded NIFskope 9 and need to learn
it. (General modding.)
7. I have an excellent speaking voice and would enjoy doing
voice acting. I've seen the business end of a microphone as a (strictly
small time) musician and sound man, however that was many moons ago.
(Sound, voice acting.)
8. There's likely more, but that's a good start.
Now for questions... where do I start...?
1. Has the mod got a statement of scope yet?
2. How much planning has been done and in what areas?
3. Who has started taking on responsibilities and in what areas? In short, is there a team forming or already existant?
4. Vital: What do you need from us, the fans and would-be modders?
I think that's likely enough to begin. I have dozens of High Rock
specific questions, but they can wait... don't want to get the cart in
front of the horse... (espcialy in Daggerfall).
Let's get this rolling!

I had to read it twice to understand it all.
I'd also love to get some answers here.

Apologies for the length... I haven't been this excited about something
in perhaps a decade. Pardon my writer's run-on. (Grin.)

Ok, to answer your questions:
1. Has the mod got a statement of scope yet?
?? You'll have to clarify, I'm not sure I understand what you mean.
2. How much planning has been done and in what areas?
Not too much, mostly lore/main quest/current politics, the MOD idea is barely weeks old.
3. Who has started taking on responsibilities and in what areas? In short, is there a team forming or already existant?
Well, there is a group of 5 people right now with me as the leader
(mostly in name as I treat every opinion as if it were my own.). Work
is divided up among the core team by City-states.
I'm in charge of Daggerfall itself, KuKulZa is doing Orsinium, Hrafnkel
- Wayrest and DarkAsmodeous - Evermore. The fifth team member is
strictly a coder.
4. Vital: What do you need from us, the fans and would-be modders?
Not much at the moment from fans, we still need to expand the core
team, at this point we'll take anyone who shows commitment and is able
to work in a team.
Later we'll need to hand out claims to the community, but that's in the future.

Thank you (very much) for the reply.
To clarify about scope, I was referring to main plotline and such. I.E.
is there an overall storyline in the planning stages for the mod?
I would enjoy offering any thing I could contribute through writing and
quest development (as is likely obvious from my posts so far).
Basically, I'm at your disposal in whatever regard you think I would
fit best. Just let me know what you need and I'm happy to help.

I suppose so. It just seems so appropriate for High Rock.

Why dont you do the mainquest about the growing tension between
Daggerfall and Wayrest and with their new allies and the skirmishes
going on.

More unified than it has ever been says pretty little in the case of
High Rock. Besides, with Elysana on the scene, and Gortwog to boot, you
know there's some political scheming going on. The new Pocket Guide
seems to hint at this.

I don't know what all Ku is doing with Orsinium. The KoW was based in
Hammerfell though, in DF, so I don't know what we'll do in that
regard...

Also, who is covering the Isle of Balfiera - High Rock or Hammerfell?
Iirc, it was last in Breton hands, but that may have changed since.
Direnni tower could have some fun implications as an historic
ruin/dungeon crawl. Might also be a good location for any past "dirty
secrets" connected with the Warp and the War of Betony that preceded it.
Regarding the KoW, there could be a couple of one-shot adventures,
tying up loose ends, espcially since Mannimarco is destroyed in the
main Oblivion Mage's Guild quests. (Ironic that, since one of the
possible ending for DF was to give the Totem to KoW, allowing him to
attain godhood.)
And that might actually be the basis for anything necromancer related,
come to think of it. Reprisals for the KoW's death and such, although
that would likely be Tamriel-wide and not just confined to HR.

Nah, you don't have to do that. We just won't answer any questions we don't know if we can answer.
Feel free to ask as many as you want.

Actually, I will wait since patience is usually rewarded. This forum
has only begun and I have spewed off a lot of stuff here. Might be good
to let folks digest and get their ideas posted too.
I'm also eager to find out about the MQ, mainly because then I have
some idea of how to design quests that support it or interlock
with/compliment it. Until the team is ready to release some concept
works, I don't want to joggle their collective elbows.
My personal view is that the mod is going to require patience, time and
attention to detail, along with enthusiasm. The former (specifically
the patience department) can be difficult for me because of my
eagerness, but I'll manage.
The latter I have lots of.

Hey Braggi, if you keep on showing so much interest and enthusiasm,
I'll have no other chice but to invite you to the core team
.
Ok, since I'm the leader I have the right to answer some questions of yours:
1. Concerning Mannimarco and the whole necro business: I don't know, we
probably won't be getting tangled up in it ourselves (the core team),
but if someone were to come up with something that we'd like, we might
give permission to make it for us as a claim.
2. Orsinium is being worked on and is a key feature of the MQ, it's
going to be one of the major forces on the political "theatre of war".
3. About the MQ i'll say this much: it involves a lot of political
intreague and will offer multiple choices and several outcomes, beyond
that, it's more or less confidential, I want to keep the MQ a mystery
for the most part until the MOD is released.

You can this. One choice will get you some gold but cost you and your
faction more for keeping peace or you can kill all the other people and
take whatever you want
