(City Council » Other Quests) Artifact Co-Ordination |
|
Is there a thread anywhere on Silgrad that mentions which artifacts
(beyond those used in Oblivion proper) have been included already and
in which provinces?
If so, I'd like to take a look at it, to see what is possible for
artifact quest possibilities. It might be nice to add one or two to
High Rock, so long as they don't interfere with anything else being
done by Silgrad itself or the other Beyond Cyrodiil groups.
If no such thread exists, then I'd like to get a running tally going to
help everyone out. We could collect all artifact used from each game -
TES1-4, Battlespire and Redgard. New artifacts could be considered,
along with re-workings of any old ones that aren't in Oblivion.
Any help here would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I don't believe we have a record of who's using what. We should make one though, so that we can all have a few artifacts.

Yes it is, but we will find a lore way around, hell, we may even let
the player still get it in cyrodiil, but it has story purpose in
elsweyr.

The thing is artifacts which are tied to deadric princes manifest
themselves all over Tamriel dont they? Thats not to say that there
would be two instances of the same artifact but that items 'find' their
way to new owners, often by way of other worldy meddling.

Here's what I'm going to do. I'll get a list together of all of the
artifacts from TES1-4 and post it here. I don't have Battlespire or
Redgard, so I'll have to rely on others for that input, assuming I
can't find any info online. Once the list is completed, I'll start a
section on Lore for the items and a tally on which ST and BD groups are
using what.
I'll have the list for my next post in this thread. Anything you have
to offer in the way of help, corrections or usage will be very welcome.
Thanks for the comments so far!

OK folks, here it is... my first draft of the Tamriel artifacts list.
Once we get this finalized, then we can start tracking who is using
what and in which province(s).
A couple of notes to keep in mind:
a) I left out a *ton* of minor artifacts from MW, Tr and
BM. I tried to stay away from too many Vvardenfell- and
Solstheim-specific items, in favour of items with a cross-Tamriel
appeal or those likely to be known through Lore and legend across the
continent. (This just means the Dark Elves and Nords have a bumper crop
of home-grown magical items/artifacts to play with... lucky folks!
)
b) If you think a missing artifact should go into the list,
mention it! Giving the item's usefulness/reason for being known to the
world as a whole would probably be a good idea too, so the modders can
have an idea of how these things came to end up at wherever they
eventually get located. This includes any items ewarlier in the
thread... please list what game you found it in, along with any Lore
you encountered about, just as did Durdain for Eleidon's Ward.
c) I am not perfect. If I missed a listing for an well-known artifact that appeared in more then one game, list it, please.
d) At present, I have no artifacts listed from Regard or Battlespire. Contributions here are definitely welcomed.
e) Once we get a good collection of additions, I'll update the list here in the thread.

You made numbers for Redguard/Battlespire but it doesn't look like you marked any artifacts with either number.

Yup, that's right Hraf.
I don't own and haven't played the games, so I have no idea if there
are any artifacts in them for consideration. I haven't founnd anything
online yet, either. that's why I need the help to get the list fleshed
out.
I need lots of help here, no question.

Spear of Bitter Mercy and Cuirass of the Savior's Hide are both in
Battlespire. So was the Deadric Broadsword of the Moon Riever.

That said, the DBotMR won't really work well outside of Battlespire's setting, I don't believe.

What is the nature of the artifact? And why would it be restricted or unsuitable outside the Spire?

It's Dagon's neonymic, or however that's spelled. It was used solely to be able to banish Dagon, from what I recall.

Ah, OK. Then that would have been destroyed with the Spire, correct?
I'll drop it from the list for now, unless someone can provide me with
a good reason not to.

I dunno if it was destroyed, but I can't imagine it making its way back
to Nirn after all that so quickly... Though the Savior's Hide did.

Perhaps I should create a section for artifacts whose whereabouts are
unknown at the moment? This could apply to a few items, actually. King
Orghum's Coffer is another one that was only used in one game, (TES 1).

I was going to say that, but I couldn't remember if we'd decided.

TOYB. No.
In fact, pull something like that again, and elsweyr may just find itself a new monarch.
Please be civil.

Honestly, with as many projects as there are, it isn't at all fair to
go around claiming all the artifacts just because they're in some way
tied to Skyrim. The nature of TES artifacts is that they move around, a
lot.

I beg to differ. It was in Rotheran (could be wrong on the name, but
it's whatever Stronghold was on the same island as Dagon Fel). I'm
certain that it was not on Solstheim, and you can check me on that.

The question that still remains is how liberal you're going to be with
what 'clearly' belongs in Skyrim... Which appears to be very liberal.

Though I am nervous about stepping in where angels fear to tread, I did
get this thread started. My intention was to avoid this kind of
argument with the artifact list. Looks like it didn't work. Well, fish
or cut bait, I guess.
Let's face it folks, - by working on mods we are acting as game
designers. Not sort-of kind-of about it, we are designing games.
Period. A couple points that I know game designers ponder:
1. Variety makes things interesting.
Q: Why are circuses fun?
A: Because there is a lot going on at them.
This is the same reason computer games grab people ? there?s a lot
going on. If that ?a lot? is all the same thing, it will get boring
fast. TES is fun because it different. It has flavour and uniqueness.
Depth. Those things only come with variety. The more different,
interesting things and situations you have, the more people you appeal
to.
2. Too much sameness can be a downfall.
Think of every game out there you?ve played and why you disliked it.
Odds are good, part of the reason (not all, but part) is due to it
being too similar to something you?ve played before.
Sameness can also be a strategic downfall. If I design a fiery place
and all my items are fire-based, a player with strong resist fire
abilities is going to stomp all over my monsters and dungeons. The same
applies to any in-game force ? magicka, shock, drain attribute, frost.
A good game has counter balances and changes of pace built in, so the
player doesn?t get bored and simply walk away and then toss the game
into the trash. That leads to my last point?
3. Modern game players bore easily.
Modern gamers are sophisticated. They?ve seen and done a lot, both online and off. WE are modern gamers. Every one of us has seen and done things on our computers unthinkable twenty years ago. Even with all that wonder, we have learned so much, so fast that we have seen it all.
And that?s the danger.
Too much on the same theme and the game is just another look-alike
wannabe. TES has avoided this for the most part and that?s why we love
it
Having a theme is great. No place would be interesting in game without
one. Each of us has an interest in one of the TES themes, or we?d never
have volunteered for the BC mods we?ve chosen. It is tempting to fall
into the theme trap here though?
I am speaking from experience here and not just talking through my hat
BTW. As someone who owns over 200 computer games and has played perhaps
twice that in the last eleven years, I?ve seen how some games can work
and other can flop. Many of the flops were too similar ? boring.
Now, what was all of the above about? Simple:
I think we?ll all succeed better in what we do if we share. Look at
each TES game you?ve played. Did they have only items or weapons themed
to the province they set in?
Heck no!
That means the designers knew what we?re still learning? the three points I mentioned above. If we want to match their ability, and there?s no doubt in my mind we can? this is a talented group we have here, on every single mod, then we need to learn and remember what they knew from the get-go:
Share.
Work together.
Avoid getting trapped in a theme.
Mix things up a bit and make them interesting.
Isn?t that why each of us play TES?

DA, I agree that we need to keep the theme strong and that each
province should have its signature items... a lot of them, in fact.
My reaction was to the post listing every Skyrim-themed artifact on
Tamriel. (I felt a bit foolish offering to help co-ordinate only to see
things staring to turn into a "gimme" contest.) Since I unwittingly
started the mess by offering to co-ordinate, I figured I should at
least chime in to let folks know where I was at with it.
I want to help everyone. Our team comes first, because that's what I
volunteered for, but the others as well. We've got most of Tamriel
under development here... I'd really like to play all the mods that get
completed.
So, I was simply stating we need to figure out how to add a little diversity for everyone's benefit.
Why not have an artifact sharing brainstorm or some such, as was mentioned earlier? That would benefit everyone, methinks.
Thoughts?
(Off Topic:
Did you get the latest version the Heraldry for Evermore? If so, any
changes needed? Please let me know, I want to make sure it suits.)

Here's a list that HR would like to claim, or at least express interest in.
Bittercup
Bow of Shadows
Chrysamere
Eleidon's Ward
Lord's Mail
King Orgnum's Coffer
Ring of Phynaster
Skull Crusher
Staff of Magnus and/or Staff of Hasedoki
I'm sure someone will fight us for Lord's Mail and Chrysamere, and I'm
almost certain Skyrim will fight us for Skull Crusher, but that's the
list.

Vvardenfell already have an absolute ton of artifacts available... That
and both those were used in the Imperial Legion in MW, why recycle them
for the same basic purpose?

Hey EK, have you actually ASKED anyone before claiming stake to one of
those two artifacts? Do you really beleive the people around here would
like to see those two pointlessly re-used just in the same way the were
in MW?
I don't know about the others, but I know I wouldn't.
I'm not telling you to give up on both, but at least let up on one of
them, having so little lore artifacts to share among so many projects
doesn't allow for one single faction to have TWO of them.

Give me a more compelling reason than that. We have too many projects
here to just toss two or three artifacts into a single questline. Both
of those items would work very well in High Rock, and not many do.
Could you at least consider giving us ONE instead of just coming in
with your smug little "I'm using both" remark?

Besides, you can create your own artifacts to use in questlines, and
they won't look any worse if you give a thought out background,
Vvardenfell already has MORE than enough recognisealbe artifacts to
toss around without hogging anything other teams could use.
I knew there would be a battle over these two...

That would be the general message I was trying to convey, yes. I don't understand what you're saying there.

You want us to hear out the questlines you've plotted out for the two, if yes, then go ahead, we'll hear you out.
But I don't want them to be involved with the Imp. Legion though...

I said I will give the 2 artifacts to Highrock as long as I can help plot the quest to get the 2

I'm not sure I get you DA, are you worried about HR not getting Chrysamere, or Vvardenfell not getting the Lord's mail??

Nah, I'm just throwing a little fit over being left out of the decision process, I'll get over it.

Oh, yeah, sorry 'bout that, you weren't online at the time and the
issue needed to be resolved quickly, otherwise it could have gotten out
of hand.

I think High Rock, in particular the different counties/kingdoms should have quite a few of their own unique artifacts.
With them being very individualistic and regal I imagine heirlooms as
being very important artifacts in courts and amongst the nobility of
High Rock. If High Rock is struggling to claim any of the wider known
bits and bobs of Tamriel perhaps this is a fitting replacement. I.e
Ancient swords, tunics and armour etc being passed on through royal
families perhaps even being awarded to the player on occasion.

Durdain, I couldn't agree more. And thank you very much for the suggestion of the Ward, earlier on in the thread.

Just to point this out, the Bloodworm helm is also in Oblivion, in the mages guild questline.

I think we claimed those a while back when this guy offered the BC community his work (re-textures) on several artifacts.
