(City Council » Lore) Had a bit of an idea... |
|
Since High Rock is a place steeped in Lore and all, why not have the
player find some way to enter a section of Apocrypha? Could be a
miscellaneous quest, or even one for a guild, but it'd be a handy way
to incorporate a definitive 'catalogue' of all the lore we could
possible compile.
Just a random idea that I thought might be kind of fun.

I was never really into lore. What is Apocrypha?

Apocrypha (from the Greek word ?????? meaning "those having been hidden
away"[1]) are texts of uncertain authenticity or writings where the
authorship is questioned.
In Judeo-Christian theology, the term apocrypha refers to any
collection of scriptural texts that falls outside the canon. Given that
different denominations have different ideas about what constitutes
canonical scripture, there are several different versions of the
apocrypha.
During sixteenth-century controversies over the biblical canon the word
"apocrypha" acquired a negative connotation, and it has become a
synonym for "spurious" or "false". This usage usually involves
fictitious or legendary accounts that are plausible enough to commonly
be considered as truth. For example, the Parson Weems account of George
Washington and the cherry tree is considered apocryphal. |

...Barring the real-world etymology (which has little relevance here, but thanks anyway
), Apocrypha is the realm of Daedric Prince Hermaeus Mora, whose sphere is knowledge and things of that nature.

I see... and how would you suggest that be done?
maybe even a court is held to say, judge Reachmen's claim to part of
the Bjoulsae (and all the implications of the Wayrest-Orsinium alliance
beneifitting from it)...
and Daggerfall-Camlorn is damn opposed and has all evidence against,
having representatives from Evermor to help its case saying that the
land belonged to lords that are now subject to Evermor...
and so depending on what side you work on you sift through the anals of
Apocrypha to find evidence... and some trapped intellectuals in this
strange realm will lead you astray, hel you, or give you biased
truths...

I dunno, I don't think it has to have much to do with the inter-kingdom
politics. I was thinking maybe you go in seeking something in
particular. Some bit of information... Hell, it could have to do with
the mysterious invaders from the West, no?

Yokuda. It was discussed as a possible part of the MQ, if you'll remember.

hmm... I remember, it had to do with the Adamamtine tower too I think...
maybe visiting HermesMora's place is a good way to dsicover why they're in High Rock...
maybe there is a catch... like maybe if you stay too long you will be
entranced by the tantalizing knowledge that you will end up spending an
eternity there... and well... be in bliss and in hell... never able to
break out of the knowledge-thirsting?

Eh, I dunno about that. Might not be good to make it so you can never get out.
However, we could make it so you only have a certain amount of time
before the initial portal closes, and if you take too long you have to
find a certain tome that explains how to get out.
