Using the Lore Discussions Forum (Updated 26 08 2008) |
|
Getting the tangled web of High Rock Lore sorted out is a major job.
There is so much game information that has been created, added or
appended to the area over the years that we need a Breton Encyclopedia
to keep track of it all. Since many eyes and minds are better then a
few, this is the place for you to get us all up to speed on Lore for
the province.
We currently have the following sub-forums active. No special titling
is needed on posts that go in here, since the sub-forum title takes
care of that.
1. Geographic Regions: Similar to the Towns Cities and
Settlements section, we need a lot of information here, specifically
for the eastern half of the province. And don’t forget about the
western and central portions of High Rock – Lore conflicts exist there
and we need to find them and get them sorted out!
2. Counties, Cities, and Settlements: We need a ton of Lore
here, especially for the following areas: Camlorn, Farrun, Shornhelm,
Jehanna and Northpoint. Much area was not covered in TES2 and we need
to gather all the information for reference created since. Even a few
lines of text are priceless, so make sure to have your sources ready.
3. Lore Research: This is an area for posting obscure or little
known Lore items you want us to know about. Unlike Visual and Sound
materials, many of the written items were carried over from game to
game, starting with TES2. Therefore, posting Bethesda materials should
be fine, so long as you make sure to credit them.
When you start a new post about Lore not in one of the above
categories, we ask that you include one of the following in your thread
titles, to keep us all on the same page in your particular portion of
the Lore Encyclopedia. The categories we have currently (and we do
expect these to expand) are:
1. Books and Literature: Anyand all books from TES2 Daggerfall
(which is where books first appeared in the the Elder Scrolls series)
through TES3 Morrowind and TES4 Oblivion.
2. Creature Lore: A number of creatures have appeared throughout
the province. Some will make it to the mod, others will be mentioned in
books and conversations. Any information regarding them uses this
category.
3. Item Lore: This category is for artifacts, magical items, in-game objects of all types,
4. Quest Lore: Another big category and one that will only get
bigger as the mod progresses. Quests need to be steeped in Lore to feel
right in the game, so we will want to have the most accurate
information regarding these.
5. Link Library: This is a special section of hyperlinks to Lore
sources that will be posted as a sticky here in the Lore Discussions
forum. For clarity and too keep the area tidy, the sticky will normally
be locked, and if you have an addition you would like to see added to
it, you can either start a thread with the the title “Link Library
Submission” or PM Braggi or Tabber42 with a similar PM title. The more
links we all have to refer to, the more accurate the mod will be.
Now, a few rules for the road:
1. When you make a Lore post, always give your source in the post!
Whether it comes from an in-game book, scroll or broadsheet, one of the
Pocket Guides, a game manual (or similar documentation) and official
map or even a post from one of the Bethesda designers, we need to know
the source for accuracy.
2. Be polite. Lore discussions can get passionate. We all have
strong opinions and on this subject. Argue and defend your point of
view, by all means, just please remember to keep it polite and keep
your mind as open as you can. Because we know we have Lore conflicts,
some of them spanning up to three games, we are going to face some
seriously thorny issues that must be discussed.
3. As a general rule of thumb, older Lore on a specific subject will give way to newer Lore on that subject. This is not
to say there isn't room for exceptions, but in general this is how the
designers of TES did it, and we’ll need to understand their reasoning
to make the mod feel right. As one example of exceptions and places
where "Instant Lore" was used by Bethesda designers, read over the
section entitled "The Dog Ate My Homework" at The Imperial Library,
found here: http://www.imperial-library.info/dogate/
4. In a Lore dispute that affects the mod in a big way, the core team reserves the right to settle things.
This can be done via a poll to get everyone’s vote on settling things
or it may be done as design decision. Arbitrary design decisions are
not something we want to do lightly or often, so if one gets made you
can count on it having to do with an important item relevant to the
subject being discussed.
Finally, and as always, we ask for your suggestions and input for ways
to improve the categories listed here. Because there is so much Lore to
sort out, we expect to have a number of new things popping up. Please
give your suggestions in Ye Officialle Suggestion Threadde in the Tavern area.
Happy Loring!
