Counties, Cities and Settlements - Random Town Lore |
|
I will be editing this, as well as posting much more additions to this
as new information arises, but here are the first set of cities I
decided to throw in here. They are compressed (to certain extents) to
what is necessary to post, I may chose to extend them at a later date.
Orsinium
King Gortwog of Orsinium controls much of the Wrothgarian Mountains as
well as the profitable rivercoast of the Bjoulsae. He persists in his
demands that Orsinium be recognized as an Imperial province separate
from High Rock. The Elder Council treats Gortwog as a recognized king,
and collects taxes directly from Orsinium, but officially Orsinium
remains a county of High Rock, though technically it spans both the
provinces of High Rock and Hammerfell. Currently allianced with Wayrest
making the two 'superpowers' of High Rock.
Anticlere
The Lordom of Anticlere is a coastal region with a long southern
shoreline on the north of the Iliac Bay. It has northern borders to
Daenia and Urvaius, a western border with Shalgora and a small eastern
border with Dwynnen. The main deity of this region is Mara.
Anticlere was previously known as Reich Gradkeep. During the War of
Betony, Lord Graddock, the lord of Anticlere, tried to facilitate a
peace treaty between the two warring states of Daggerfall and Sentinel.
The meeting did not go well, after a confusing event, a bloody battle
ensued. Lord Graddock was killed in the event. The only surviving
member of the ruling family of Reich Gradkeep was a sickly infant, so
the councilors of state appealed to Lord Auberon Flyte, the cousin of
Lord Graddock, to rule the lordship in regency. Unfortunately, the
infant heir died. Then Reich Gradkeep became Anticlere, named after
Flyte's ancestral home.
The Knights of the Flame is the noble warriors of the Lorddom of
Anticlere. Their allegiance is unswerving to Lord and Lady Flyte. In
return for their allegiance, the knights are treated as veritable gods
in Anticlere.
Azra’s Crossing
The evil shadowmage, Azra Nightwielder, tried to manipulate the shadow
of all the possible Azra Nightwielders (different dimensions?) to form
one big shadow. He was confronted by the neighboring Redguard kingdoms,
who fearing the results of his experiment, attacked him. Azra
Nightwielder loses of Shadow magic and resulting a devastated blast in
the area. Azra disappears and where he stood, a huge hole in the ground.
Gauvadon
On the peninsula of High Rock. It was formerly independent, now is shared 50/50 by Wayrest and Orsinium.

More generally, I think this would be a good thread to try to decide
who conquered what during the Warp in the West. As far as I know, the
only countries that were left at the end of it were:
Orsinium
Wayrest
Daggerfall
Camlorn
Northpoint
Evermore
Camlorn is now allied to Daggerfall, and the chances are high that they may unify into one kingdom.
Farrun and Jehanna are square in the middle of the Bend'r-Mahk war, and
that whole region in the north-west is a war zone between Nords and
Bretons.

Good suggestion. And it ties in with some of the work we're doing to
the forums now that we have the basic structure started.
A number of archived posts from the original High Rock project need to
be sorted through and edited or moved here to prevent too much
re-inventng the wheel. If you would like to see what we have to work
from you might want to poke around in the archive. It is located here:

Speaking of the archive, here are some items for consideration
regarding the new height map and the province as a whole. I dug these
up as possibilities two years back and some were slated to be used.
Sadly, they never made the design document due to my and Gyssar's
absences messing things up.
Since we are revamping the height map, one thing we know we need to do
is to consolidate and organize the towns, villages and settlements from
various Lore sources. All of those given here are drawn from the TES1
map of High Rock and are technically proto-Lore. However, proto-Lore
may be all we have to fill in some of the eastern and central areas of
the province not developed by TES2, so they should definitely be
considered.
Evermore Area:
- Black Wastes, village due west of Evermore (was this renamed at some point to Grim Dike?)
- Dunkarn or Dunkarn Haven, village due east of Evermore likely midway between it and Raven Spring
Camlorn Area:
- Ebon Wastes, village due south of Camlorn, midway between it and Aldingleigh
Vermere/Anticlere Area:
- The Mines of Khuras (major quest dungeon in the first game) would be
located due NE of Anticlere, right where the red and yellow political
borders touch
Wayrest/Orsinium Area:
- Vermeir Wastes, village northeast of Wayrest, midway between it and Baelton
Now, is there anyone who has knowledge of the possible Lore from
sources such as Shadowkey or any of the TES2-4 written sources that
could be added here? We basically need a town name and an idea as to
where it is on the map. Once we have a big enough pool of items, then
we can sort it out to keep major Lore-justified places intact while
skinny-ing down smaller places in the more crowded portions of the
province. We can also hopefully fill in a few more locations to the
east and along the Skyrim Border.
Let's also remember that the Bjoulsae is a long river too - TES2 only
really developed its mouth and lower reaches - and that river forms the
border with Hammerfell, so trade will pretty much insure it is
reasonably inhabited where the terrain permits. This post has been edited 1 time(s), it was last edited by Braggi: 2008.08.22 00:39.

I have a working copy of Arena. If you like I can check out the Skyrim
border area and see if there's anything we could use. Proto-lore or
not, there's often more there than people think. Shall I give it a try?

I would, lol. Is that game good too? It was before my time, so yeah hehe.
But yeah, I would definately take a look thru it to see if there is any
proto lore that is in there. Cause anything pertaining to the map and
such is pretty much vital

I also have a working copy of Arena - same system TES2 is on. (Yes, I know, I know, I am such a TES grognard...
)
When I edited that archived post earlier today, I went back, fired up
Arena and checked for other locations just to make sure. As it turns
out I must have done a pretty thorough job the first time - I got em
all.
Thanks very much for your offer though - its nice to see someone who
also values whatever information we can get on the whole Elder Scrolls
universe. (There are days I feel positively old when I think of how
long I have been playing in Tamriel.)
