2D Art - Heraldry Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       IP Information Go to the top of this page

Here are a number of concepts posted to the original project forums for Heraldry for the Mod.

Note that the old structure of city development does not currently apply. Cities are going to be open to regular claims, so concept art for heraldry is not restricted to approval by the city leader at this time. (As we assign cities and other regions for claiming this will change, of course. :) )

Currently, we have some tentative ideas that carry over from the old project in that:

- Gyssar would like to continue developing Daggerfall

- I would like to keep work going on Jehanna (However, I am willing to consider turning over my concept work on the city and develop another location, if anyone else shows the desire and dedication)

- Tabber42 has asked if he can work on Wayrest

The screen shots below cover the following locations or factions:

1. Daggerfall: Not yet finalized and approved by Gyssar who was developing that city.

2. Evermore: finalaized for DarkAsmodeus who was developing that city in the first HR incarnation.

3. Jehanna: Finalized for my development of the city.

4. The Knights of the Raven Faction: Not yet developed in either incarnation of the mod.

5. Wayrest: Finalized for Hraf who was developing that city in the first HR incarnation.

We still need Heraldry for Camlorn, Shornhelm, Northpoint and Orsiunium, just to start with. If anyone has something to contribute here, please do so, by all means! Do your best to see if there is any lore to draw from, but since many of these places don't have a lot that is specific, you may well have creative freedom.

Well, here's a few ideas on some of the art and such:

Shornhelm is inhabited by the defenders of Andorak Septim (son of Katariah Ra'athim, Dunmer consort to 'The Mad King' Pelagius (but not the Mad Kings son, a new consort)), who's descendants now run it, since it was the outcome of a peace treaty for the war for the throne against his cousin (gotta love how close these families are). So maybe it would have something do do w/ that (of just look Imperial'ish opposed to the normal High Rock stuffs)

Orsinium is run by Orcs, and them being fairly brutish (despite their kings political genius), wouldn't it look sort of rag-tag and some depiction of a battle won or something.

Camlorn has the march of beauty (basically a bunch of prostitutes get dressed up fancy and parade the town), also take into account its position, its right by the mountains (north of it), and is probably in some sort of a ravine or meddow sort of deal (not great in looking at maps, so correct me if I'm wrong), so it could have something to do with all that.

Now Northpoint, it would be pretty freezing there, lots of ice, snow, and the like (the people would have to be crazy or very resilient to live there), so the flag would be proclaiming their dominance over the area (focusing more on the resilient part Tongue , who wants to proclaim they're crazy), my thoughts would be like, tools, furs, stuff that you'd use in that situation

Hope this helps, and keep in mind, although I do draw from certain lore and placements for some of it, these are merely suggestions

An update to the Heraldry section, compliments of The Old Ye Bard. This one is the coat of arms for the city of Shornhelm.

Excellent work!

Good job!

Great work TOYB. Just one suggestion though - i'd like the project to stay as far away from stock OB stuff as possible. If you're willing to put in the time, I'd like you to consider using an original helmet profile.

since this is heraldry, I'm not too fond of the cast shadow. Logos are usualy flat, especialy if they have to be reproduced. it is much easier to copy a flat logo onto shields, banners, etc. then it is one with shading.
