This
a repost of information from the HR archives. It was was first posted
by LadyN and if she she is willing to add her sources to the thread, we
can use these as starting points for development of this city.
For now we would like to focus the most on the less-known major Breton
cities, since a tremendous amount of development has already been done
(and will need revising and updating) for areas such as Daggerfall,
Wayrest and Orsinium.

Camlorn
Facts:
- Port city on the Eltheric Ocean.
- City colors seem to be Purple and Yellow.
- Prostitutes! Each year on the anniversary of the citie's founding
they have a parade of beauty where the prostitutes march down the
streets dressed in silk outfits. There is a Prostitute's Guild with
it's HQ in Camlorn.
- Temple of Sethiete
- Cavilstyr Rock, a very large rock facing the sea, located some place near it. The shore line is very rocky.
- has a tavern named The Breaking Branch
- The palace has a false wall behind the family crypt which leads to an archive room.
- Jagar Tharn came from this city, and prior to leaving was a
Mage-Priest at the Temple of Sethiete. He stole from the Temple, books
and scrolls regarding the Staff of Chaos, it's whereabouts and how it
could be used, powerful and forgotten spells. The late King at the time
tried to send word of the Theif to the Emperor, but was assasinated,
four years prior to Jagar Tharn taking on the Emperor's appearance.
History:
-2E 301, Kingdom founded
-3E 385, royal family assassinated, but Princes Talara escapes. The Duke of Oloine takes his brother's office.
-3E 405, assassination conspiracy unraveled, King arrested, Talara found.
Sources: The Mystery of Talara series.
TES1 Proto-Lore:
- Temple of Sethiete was named the "Brotherhood of Seth" in TES1 and located near docks - (see screen shot).
- One of the Sethiete monks, a "Brother Barnabas" starting raving about
the imprisonment of the Emperor and was thought to have gone mad, circa
3E 388-390. (This would likely be the first record of the Imperial
Simulacrum, assuming the Brotherhood kept detailed records of the
incident and those records survived the Warp.)
- The monk escaped the cloister and was lost in the Mines of Khuras,
carrying an Elder Scroll. The Priesthood was able to retrieve it
through Ria Silmane's agent, in return for translating it to grant the
agent knowledge of the location of the Crypt of Hearts.
- City layout would appear to be reasonably in-line with the layout of
the coast it was on, with the dock to the city's north west, matching
the angle of the Eltheric Ocean's coast on this part of the peninsula.
- Palace for the city is located on the western edge of the city, overlooking the Eltheric Ocean.
- Two main gates are indicated, one to the north (likely heading for Shornhelm and Northpoint) and one to the west
- The city appears to have a central park, which contains trees and a lone fountain near it's center.
- One of the TES1 temples (located directly to the east of the western
city gate) is named "The Order of the Knights of Hope" (a possible
knightly order for the mod?)
- A large number of shops are located two blocks south of the Mage Guild
- Mage Guild appears to be fairly modest and small in size.
- When you enter Camlorn in TES1, the following message appears: "Camlorn, Jewel of the West, greets thee weary traveler and bids thee welcome to our City-State."
For visual inspiration in development, the TES1 version of the city looked like this:

Thank you Lady N.
For some other development idea on these two cities, we might also want
to have a look at some of the items brought up in the heraldry concept
art thread over in Visual Discussions, located here: Concept Art - Heraldry

Actually gang, you may want to look over this post from the archives regarding the whole Sethiiethe thing for Camlorn:
Originally posted by Braggi on 2006.10.04:
Some TES 1 lore, straight from the game, that may or may not be useful. Use whatever works.
- Camlorn had a religious order, temple or monastary located near the docks entitled "The Brotherhood of Seth."
- One of their monks, a "Brother Barnabas" starting raving about the
imprisonment of the Emperor and was thought to have gone mad, circa 3E
Since, as far as I know, "Seth" is not a known god, he would likely be
aither a local HR deity or simply a priest that the cloister/temple was
named after. (I welcome any corrections here.)
The date of the monk's "madness" would vary in-game, depending how long
the PC had been adventuring. I put in a three year range, since the
five of us that played it together (each with a different character)
usually got to this point somewhere around this time. This was mainly
because fast travel from province to province tends to eat up a lot of
time in the first game.
End of old post
So, it looks like Bethesda did dig into proto-Lore for
some of their later information after all. Makes sense too, since the
Imperial Simulacrum and the quest back in TES1 for the Staff of Chaos
are considered Lore.
That is heartening and it means that we can use some of that stuff if
we are careful a develop it correctly to bring it in line with the
current era.

I believe that Seth is the same as Set, which is (as far as I know),
the Argonian version of Sithis. I'm afraid I have no reference for
this, because this is from original research done by the Black Marsh
project (which includes a Temple of Set in the city of Gideon). |
