Claim Directory Structure |
|
After taking some time to sort things out, here is what we have come up
with for the directory structure for the mod. Creating an organized set
of directories can be thorny problem, so we welcome any and all
questions, feed back and improvement ideas on the system given below.
Good, practical and hard-headed advice is always welcome!
An important note: No matter how we try, directories for claims
are going to get complicated. TES4 Oblivion is a big game with a lot of
assets and objects. Be patient with us, since this method will be
refined just as we have been doing with the game Lore.
Basic Structure
To get things started, the game's directories are divided into several sections as follows:
Meshes
Texture
Music
Extras
Fonts
...and so on.
When creating a High Rock claim that has new content in it, a folder
named HR will be added to each of the applicable game's base
directories, as needed. Examples based on the above list would include:
Meshes\HR
Texture\HR
Music\HR
Extras\HR
Fonts\HR
Refining
To further refine things, we build on what we have so far, Thus, sub-categories are going to be added as needed. For example:
Meshes\HR\Architecture
Meshes\HR\Armor
Meshes\HR\Clutter
Meshes\HR\Furniture
These in turn can be sub-categorized as desired via the area being
modded. The examples below give some idea of the types of names we'll
be using here:
Meshes\HR\Architecture\Daggerfall
Meshes\HR\Architecture\Wayrest
Meshes\HR\Architecture\Rural Tileset
Using Other Mods
If one of the 3rd party mods is to be used or adapted (such as for the various creatures, objects or tilesets listed in the Resources For Claims Use sticky), a reference to the original mod author followed by the mod subject goes into the directory structure. Examples:
Meshes\HR\Creatures\MrSiika\Bats
Meshes\HR\Tilesets\HR\AndySaurus\Dungeon
Meshes\HR\Texian\AnimatedWater
This allows us to keep things organized and clearly gives recognition
to the original base mod's creator. Note that, as with all mods that
utilize someone else's work, each of the original modders will be
listed and thanked in the master readme as well.
More Help
Wherever possible, when announcing a new claim we will try to:
a) Give you the full name of the claim
b) List the resources we need to see used (or that are available if none are of an over-riding priority)
c) Explain and refine the directory structure with the mod
claimer in replies to the initial claim post to make sure both we and
they understand.
Experienced modders can use the guidelines above to design their directory structure, but please clear it with us before you begin modding!
Otherwise, having to go through and redo the directory structure for
each and every claim will make the mod impossible to complete.
