Dungeon Quest Lore - Major Dungeons Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       IP Information Go to the top of this page

In addition to any new dungeons we will be adding to the mod, we need to consider which of the historical dungeons from TES1 and TES2 need to be covered as well. Currently, the complete list from both games is as follows:

TES1
1. The Mines of Khuras (Elder Scroll Location)
2. The Crypt of Hearts (Staff of Chaos piece location)

TES2
1. Privateer's Hold (Player start dungeon)
2. Scourg Barrow (Stronghold of the King of Worms in Hammerfell)
3. Shedungent (Nulfaga's stronghold)
4. Castle Daggerfall dungeon
5. Direnni tower
6. Castle Wayrest dungeon
7. Castle Sentinel dungeon
8. Castle Llngwych
9. Castle Orsinium dungeon
10. Lysandus' Tomb
11. Woodborne Hall (Lord Woodborne's Estate)
12. The Mantellan Crux (Aetherius)

A number of these locations need to be discounted due to the scope of the mod as it currently stand. These include the Hammerfell locations of Scourg Barrow and Castle Sentinel.

As for the rest, we should do our best to prioritize which of the remaining locations would do best in being revisited through the main quest, a guild quest or a side quest and which could be excluded altogether. In a following post, I will be gathering any and all game Lore for the dungeons given in the lists above and adding it in. From there, we can start to sort the locations based on their importance to the province and its history. Once that is done, we should be able to start assigning claims for dungeon interiors in some cases.

Over to you folks!

:D

I think we can discount the Mantellan Crux altogether, because the Mantella was destroyed (or split into 8, for the purposes of this thread it doesn't matter too much) at the end of TES2. The gateway to Aetherius it created should logically therefore be sealed, wouldn't you agree?

I also think that Direnni Tower should be high priority. It's an important landmark and lore fans will expect it to be there. Whether or not there should be a quest in it, is more open to debate, but I think it would be a waste if there wasn't some story in such an important location.

Also the Crypt of Hearts could be our big "epic" dungeon for the province. Only part of it was ever explored in Shadowkey, so we could pretty much redesign it however we wanted.

Presumably Woodborne Hall was destroyed by Numidium along with all the other minor baron's castles?

I agree entirely about the Mantellan Crux and I was also going to suggest that Woodborne hall be nixed as well. Glad you were ahead of me here - I wrote that post between game mastering sessions yesterday so I didn't have the time to be a thorough as I usually like.

I have a plot line for a one-off side adventure that will take the player to a portion of the Mines of Khuras - I figured that the mines would largely be caved in or inaccessible to keep the design chores down to a minimum. (The quest is a memorial to both Uriel Septim and a retired TES1 adventurer who will be the quest-giver.)

So, with these deletions we have narrowed the list down to the following:

TES1
1. The Mines of Khuras (Partial for a side quest)
2. The Crypt of Hearts (major Lore dungeon)

TES2
1. Privateer's Hold (Note: We may have a redo of this available from someone who created an duplicate in homage for TES3. More on that as I get updated by the dungeon creator.)
2. Shedungent
3. Castle Daggerfall dungeon
4. Direnni tower
5. Castle Wayrest dungeon
6. Castle Llngwych
7. Castle Orsinium dungeon
8. Lysandus' Tomb

Any other suggestions for removal or alteration?

Lysandus and his ghost army moved on to the next world after his murder was avenged by the player. So, whilst it still definitely exists, it doesn't really count as a dungeon any more, because there won't be any bad guys left in it.

Shedugent I guess really depends on whether or not we decide the Queen Mother of Daggerfall is still alive (bear in mind she was pretty old in TES2 and that was 20 years ago). Your call, I think.

Also, what was special about Castle Llyngwych? Anything remarkable that makes it stand out from the other castles in the game?

1. The tomb could be inhabited by all manner of creatures. almost 20 years had passed since the vents of TES2. And judging from all the TES games, there's always a creature willing to populate even the most improbable of places.

2. Keep in mind that Nulfaga was a powerful necro (if I've got my lore straight), she almost definately knows some nifty trick to prolonging her life.

Pretty damn powerful, yes. She could whip up whole armies as I recall. It was her who was behind the infestation at Direnni Tower.

You know, I think I feel a quest coming on... perhaps she's looking for potions and suchlike to give her a few more decades?

I like that one!

Deeza, could you drop a synopsis of that last idea in the the Minor Quests thread (here) for posterity? Doesn't have to be heavily developed at the moment, but I would like to keep all our quest ideas easy to find.

Great idea.

Good job!

Woodborne Hall wouldn't have been destroyed, because Lord Woodborne was infact already dead -I imagine Woodbourne hall would have been taken over by another Lord or Baron from the Kingdom of Wayrest. This would mean it's not a Dungeon, and to begin with, it was never an actual dungeon anyway. To top this all of, it was a unique Castle in Daggerfall, and I'm more than happy to model an exterior for it :)
It's location is in the North of Wayrest.

Castle Llugwych wouldn't be a dungeon either, it's the Stronghold of the Blades in Highrock, and infact we have some (actually quite alot) notable Npc's who are in the Blades who would reside here, or atleast have AI schedules in which they would come here on a regular basis.
It's location is in Ykalon.

Now, some things to add from Shadowkey (yes, I know it's the worst map ever, but some locations can still be put in Highrock).

Broken Wing Citadel - Home of "The Spire Theives", a group of low-lifes who have no morals. They are made up of outlaws, bandits, mercanaries, and assasins, and accept bribes -they are made out to be pretty nasty in Shadowkey, I image the Theives Guild would find this group utterly distasteful.

Fearfrost Caverns Icecaves inhabited by a Goblin Tribe.

Twilight Temple Not really that much Lore in Shadowkey about the place, just home to the 'dawn zombies' and part of the MQ (it was cursed with the protagonist). I imagine it would be a temple to Azura, given the name.

Glacier Crawl While the map of Shadowkey is as good a map of Highrock as my buttox is, this seems like it would be placed in the East of the Kurrilian Mountains, and while it obviously needs a new name, it has a lot more interesting lore than most places, having either Rieklings of Falmer inhabiting it (just called 'ice warriors' in Shadowkey, and aren't talkative), and having the wreakage of an ancient Skyship which once upon a time would sail the skies 'capturing the stuff of stars'. Imo, we just make a Glacier there, and give it a new name, then name the Glacier Caves after it.

I definitely want to include Glacier Crawl in some form or another (I think your idea of a large glacier on the mountain range is perfect). It's hands down the most original location in the whole of Shadowkey.

Modeled Woodborne Hall for Woodborne Estate :) Just needs texturing and colision, but it's essentially done :D
