The Quill Circus/The Dark Brotherhood of High Rock |
|
Thread for the discussion, and research of the Quill Circus/Dark Brotherhood.
From the UESP:
'Chulmore Quill is the current ringmaster of The Quill Circus, the
oldest known circus in High Rock. He is on very good terms with the
Dark Brotherhood and the entire circus is perhaps only a set up, which
allows the Brotherhood to operate freely within the Iliac Bay.'
From, The Black Arrow, v 1:
“There's a circus in High Rock I saw when I was a little girl called
the Quill Circus,” she said during one of our walks through the woods.
“They've been around for as long as anyone can remember. You have to
see them if you ever can. They have plays, and sideshows, and the most
amazing acrobats and archers you've ever seen. That's my dream, to join
them some day when I'm good enough.”

Character Design; Andrew Marquez
Andrew Marquez is a simple clown in the Circus troupe, does some small
shows, but for the most part just does the hard work around the troupe,
such as setting up the tents, and making sure everything is working,
however he moonlights as a Butcher for the Dark Brotherhood, ruthlessly
murdering in the name of the night mother, though he doesn't have the
neccesary skills to advance further, his brutal efficeny his only trump
card. Not the brightest in the bunch, but not someone to be crossed
lightly.
He wears a mask, like a lot of the other clowns who also work for the
DB, to make sure he isn't noticed by anyone who knew him by his darker
proffesion.

TYOB, are you willing to concepts for other NPCs down the road? We have
needed concept artists who can work with faces and bodies, and ideally
would like to have a few people who can do it.
Consider the idea please and let me know what you think.
Thanks!

Thank you, very much.
Also, in the interests of organization, may I have permission to move this thread to the Lore Research subforum? I would also like to relocate the thread on the Mages Guild as well.
Thanks again!

To get around problems regarding the stock DB faction, The Quill Circus
is going to be a 'sub-faction' the player can only join if they are
part of the stock DB faction. The ranks will be; Freak, Clown, Performer and Dark Artist,
and while the faction will be grounded in the Circus, it's still at
it's heart part of the DB, and most of the quests will be going around
being an assasin, however with a 'dark humor' twist (as you'd expect
with an evil Circus).
Also Gyssar and Braggi have given me the go ahead to create the Questline for the faction
Quest One: Ticket to the Show
The player enters the show grounds of The Quill Circus, and if they are
already part of the DB, they are approached by a member of the Circus,
and pointed in the direction of Florette Quill, Daughter of the Last Ringmaster (Chulmore Quill, who is now retired).
Florette extends her welcome to the player, and asks if they know
Lucien of Cyrodiil, the player can respond in a variaty of ways (simple
yes or no, say he was the one who brought you into the order, and if
he's dead, tell her he's dead), she'll then reveal to the player that
they once worked together, she then continues to offer the player a
position in the Troupe.
The player can accept, or decide later (or decline). If accepted,
Florette asks that the player seal the deal be elminating an ex-member
of the circus whom as gone rogue. Asking around the Circus, and having
a high enough disposition with members (80 or more), will reveal that
the ex-member is infact Florette's brother, Armel, whom stood inline to
inherit the Circus, before he lost in a duel with Florette and
afterwards fled; he's now trying to blackmail her, and Flortte want's
him 'taken care of'. The player can go to Chulmore Quill their father
about this, but his response is that they need to sort out their own
affairs, he's too old now, and doesn't want to get involved; the player
can bring up the Five Tennants in regards to not killingother members
of the Dark Brotherhood, but his response to this will be 'you'll find
not everything is the same out here'.
The players only real choice in the end is to go kill Armel, whom is
currently in Evermore as a street performer (a juggler), if
attacked/approached in the street he'll run back to house, in which is
a trained mountain lion that isn't exactly easy to kill.
In his house you can find what he was bribing her with (a letter to the
local king he was going to send with evidence of the Dark Brotherhood
being involved with the Circus) which you can take to Florette for a
bonus (200 gold).
Returning to Florette the player becomes a full member of the Circus
with the rank of 'Freak', and Florette gives the player a 'Black
Ticket' which is meant symbolically as admittance to the Circus. She
comments 'I hope he suffered'. The player gets an infamy bonus of +2.

Quest Two: Contracted Costumes for a Brutal Birthday
Florette presents the player with an official Dark Brotherhood contract
to go to a Birthday party of a marked Lord in disguise (as the
entertainment), once the player has gained entrance to the party, they
are to kill the Lord. This is a joint contract with Andrew Marquez, an
extremly brutal killer, but lacks the competence for stealth. If any
other guests are harmed at the party the player loses their bonus, so
it would be best if they can kill the Lord privately, a hard thing
given it's his own Birthday party.
Andrew Marquez has no desire to get the bonus, and if the player
attacks the Lord in the open, he will begin to kill everyone, and
rather efficiently.
At the party the player can converse with guests, many of whom detest
the Lord and are only attending due to his political standing -any of
them could have made the contract.
Return to Florette once the deed is done, to which you'll receive 230
gold (plus a possible bonus of 70), +1 infamy and the rank of 'Clown'.
- It's a simple quest, the dialogue, costumes, and the astmosphere are what will make it interesting and give it more depth.
