Heightmap question.. Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

Sorry if this is mentioned somewhere else, but I didn't want to reply to one of the threads in the exterior claims forum because I didn't think anyone would notice my post in there lol. (it doesn't look like anyone uses it)

Anyway, what is the situation involving the heightmap(s)? I'm confused, as I see there appears to be one available, but you guys often mention "until the heighmap's done" or "we can't do that without the heighmap" etc

Thanks

I started a heightmap way back, but nobody liked it so we're having a new one made.

That's not the only reason we are getting it remade, another eason was that it was 4x OB scale which would of been impposible to make LOD for. Another reason was that all the mountains and such where not very skillfully done.

I understand there is some need for specific quality in a height map, but isn't it just so that you have a general layout? The idea is to create a height map for your general proportions, go in, start fine tuning, then random generate all the plants, and then start adding cities, villages, and dungeons.

Most of the fine tuning that will be done on the heightmap is related to detailing the land with objects like trees and rocks, the terrain will be pretty much final once it has been made.

No news I'm afraid. The last I heard he was modeling some stuff for Elsweyr.

I'm in touch with Grey Wizard all the time, he's still working on it but is very occupied and does not have time to visit the forums regularly.

OUCH! I hate the tolls time take on me :@

I try to get everything done at once, but this whole get a Middle-earth beta out by Christmas is killing me. It won't take long to finish the height map, I just need to squeeze it in my tight schedule. Things will really die down when I'm done with this new beta. Exspeically now that I got a laptop just for modding purposes. :D Now I can work every spare second of my time.

Grey, I may be in the minority here, but I see this as a HOBBY. Push too hard, and you'll burn yourself out - been there, done that. Frown And congrats on the new laptop! :)

Oh me too! Eek 2
Allthough music is very serious for me (I?ll be using the Skyrim tracks for reference). The modding is a hobby for me, and good fun to hang with all the nice dudes and dudetts around here.

I find it amazing how dedicated many of you guys and girls are!!! It?s really cool me thinks Yes

Congrats on the laptop grey!!! Good job! Laptops are very nice, and small, and easy to stash in your inventory. :) I?ll be getting a macbook pro soon if everything goes according to me plans, it?ll be good enough to play Oblivion and modding I hope with the 256mb mobility X1600...
