YOU ARE A GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Could you finish it off the Height Map? Don't worry about randomly generating the flora, etc because I'll do that by hand...

The region editor is dead impressive too. I would recomend using it to
generate basic flora then detailing by hand, that would get you the
best mix of quality and originality. |
[1] What scale is it then?
[2] I guess that would be the way to go.

4 quads actually... maybe... which would be 64x64 cells.
It's one full height map window basically.

Excellent work Alasdair, aren't Oblivion cells a 4th of the size of a
Morrowind cell? So you'll need to take that into account with the
scale. |

Well the best scale will probably be 1.5 the size of OB's Scale like we
are making the rest of Skyrim in (Not 1.5 the size of Cyrodiil to be
clear).

The most accurate measure of scale I can give you is to say that you
could sink the titanic in lake fjalding. I'd estimate it to be about 4x
the size it was in morrowind. |

To big, way to big. Try making it to the 1.5, or as close as you can get it...

Without distant LOD it's really hard to tell though, I'll try to generate some.

An easy way to exactly check would be to time how long it takes you to
walk the length of the Island in TES III then get the time it takes to
walk the length of your new Solstheim, then compare the two.

Do you have enough knowledge to make it to a 1.5 scale now?

Okay, that's about the right scale then.
So when can I expect a version that I can start to detail by hand?

Okay cool, if you can get this done soon I'll be able to do some
detailing, merge some of the already made dungeons and we should be
able to make a public release in about a month

Very nice
When generating the flora, etc as I remember only pine grew on the
island, and that you won't be able to generate the rocks as they need
new models (Ofcourse greybeard might be able to quickly make some if he
has some free time).
With the amount of progress your making I suspect we will have something to work with by the end of the week
Also if your up to it after your done with Solstheim you could take the
work Grey Wizard has already done on Skyrim and finish it off, because
your a lot faster than him

Yeah that?d be good I believe! It seems Skyrims terrain has allmost
stoped dead, and I think it might bring some new motivation and spirit
to the team if we got a height map...
Looking very nice there Alasdair!! I certainly recognise myself
Only pine grew there I believe too, but some "scant" bushes and
occasional poor, knotty and twisted excuse for a leafless tree should
be seen also me thinks..

Interesting commment - time is never "free."
But yeah, give me some parameters (sizes, textures/colors) and I should be able to accommodate you.

Towards the north there will most likely be a lot of leafless trees,
frozen and barren. Greybeard has some skill with Speed Tree, maybe he
could rusle something up...

Dark looking rocks, smooth and tall (like meniors(sp)), like the ones in BM.

I actually managed to get it working in game pretty much error free
Still needs quite a bit more work, but the size is pretty near perfect

Auseume, and It'll look much better once it has trees, a little more detailed, and a better looking LOD (not purple
).

Could you make the Moesring Mountains bigger? Since mountains in
Oblivion are considerably larger than Morrowind's "mountains". |

Left: a grid showing the cell locations in solstheim.
Right: pretty much the final heightmap, anything more will just be tweaking this one a bit.
Edit 2006.12.09 14:31:
Map showing areas of solstheim:
Edit 2006.12.09 20:12:
I just finished of the Isinfier plains and I must say they are looking
rather nice. I need new icy rocks for the areas north of the Moesring
Mountains and the remnants of the Mortag Glacier but the Jerall snowy
rocks worked well here I reckon.

I shall probably start a thread in the main forum so everyone can see
this, I've got a few screens of the Hirstaang forest and I've properly
generated LOD for half of solstheim (no more purple! w00t!) |

Simply beautiful!
Since I'm doing rocks today, I'll add icy ones to the list. Do you want
new meshes, or just use an ice texture instead of snow on the Jerall
ones? |

Both would be nice, some big spiky spires of ice would be awesome as
well as plain re-textures. Also we'll need something(s) to represent
what's left of the Mortrag Glacier. |

Why not stick transparent ice textures on Oblivion Rocks?
