Nordic Shields Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

I was bored so I decided to make a shield and I came up with this - a Sun Shield. =) The only thing that I don't like is that the mesh is not a perfect circle, it's a bit elongated... but no big deal. I'll make a few more btw. Yes

So how does it look? Just so it's clear, the mesh is a stock OB mesh... nope, still haven't learned to model. :D

Looks Great Psy! Good job! :D

Just wondering. Could we get a pic of what it looks like on a character? :D

Cheers

Looks unique. Save it for a unique shield, like a quest shield or something.

Like the quests you had with Solstheim were the sun was trapped :D This could be a very nice quest, perhaps either fire or frostshield, or light on self, Blind on target(who faces the player, maybe just hostilesWink )

Yeah, it will be used for a quest or something. Yes

Blinding enemies was just what I had in mind, but someone will need to make a script so that the player doesn't have to cast an actual blind spell... even better if the spell would work only on enemies that are in front of the player.

I have a simple request to make.

Can someone re-UV map the Skingrad townguard shield? I want to be able to place one continuous image over the entire face of the shield without any mirroring of that image. The part of the texture I colored green (see the image of the Skingrad townguard shield texture below) is mirrored along the vertical and horizontal axis of the shield, and the blue part is attached to the middle of the shield without any mirroring.

Basically what I need is for the whole front surface of the shield to be like the blue part, no mirroring, no nothing, just one continuous image. This mirroring thing is a real pain when I try to apply one none symmetrical image to the whole front surface of the shield.
I don't know a lot about UV mapping, but I don't think this is difficult to do.

So if someone can help me out I would really appreciate it... and I will be able to make more unique shields. =)

Psychotic has attached this image (downsized version):

Hehe... not really. :D

It's just an image I found on the net, I simply attached it to the default texture for the shield texture in PS and made the entire thing golden... easy as pie. :D

It's really proof that you can make cool things without a lot of effort. Tongue

Well the casting of the blind spell to guys in front of you aint that hard (could be pretty cpu intensive though)... the problem is the blinding, how the hell do you want to simulate that??

Nice shield btw

Edit: Now that I think of it, me confusion spell (the one with the goblins running of cliffs :p) could actually look like blinding with some imagination.

Edit2: Actually it doesnt, blinded people would grab there eyes, not run around like chickens without heads.

Learn to UV it yourself! It's a bloody shield. Its flat. It's already UVed. It doesn't get any easier!

JK =)
It's a relatively simple task for certain. I'm falling asleep right now. But it's not even 8pm yet....so I'll take care of that. though it'll only fill up 10mins..

Edit:

I didn't touch anything besides making the front face complete. the wood back of the shield has been rotated 90os (the red bit) an moved to save space.
the green bit is actually what is the rim around the shied but at the back. Its left exactly how it is on the original shield. I could do something with that... but then I would probably have to press more than 1 button Tongue . Hope its not a bother. The blue is the handle.

I made a new thread for the potential Blind spell by moving the related posts from this thread. :) For further discussion of the Blind spell see this thread.

@Ghogiel: You mean how many shields in the whole mod? A lot... Who was it that said "You can never have enough shields!"? Perhaps it was me. :D

I made another silver shield! Well whoop-ti-do! :D Of course you can't have a Sun Shield and not have a Moon Shield... so I made one! Pleased A shot of the Moon Shield on the left and a shot of all the shields on the right:

Psychotic has attached these images (downsized versions):

And I made an Elk shield (I need a better name for this one Tongue ). Btw, this one is from wood, the front face is painted.

Psychotic has attached this image (downsized version):

I re-textured a complete armor for the Bear Legion, see it here. I also re-textured one complete weapon set, the Nordic silver weapon set. I also put together the snow bear cuirass in NifScope, but I only recently found out how to make it work in the CS (and in-game)... I'll post that soon.

Anyway I like re-texturing shields, it's quick and simple work. Tongue

Actually you can forget the snow bear cuirass. Tongue Sure I made it work in the CS, but it looked terrible. Basically the meshes I was trying to glue together in NifScope don't fit well together... nothing I can do about it as far as NifScope goes.

TOYB asked about the rest of the bear armor........I am hesitant to atempt.

I have throughly studied the tes3 mesh, the details on the texture. I have been tempted. but leaving it as of the near future atleast. its actually quite a nice cuirass and pauldron set. and the gauntlets could be very nice.

In medieval times, armour would be very similar in comparison to the thousands of different shield emblems there would be. Think about it, there aren't really that many variations in armour materials and there a probably a few different styles you could have for each material, whereas there is an infinite number of emblems you could have on a shield and a lot would be unique, then there are loads of different shapes and materials too.

I don't think time is wasted on making shields at all, asthetic variations amongst armour is a step towards realism.

Excellent work as always, Psych! Good job!

And I agree with LC; although it would be nice to see some different Skyrim armour :D

I did make shields for all the guards of Skyrim a while back, it just wasn't decided which shield goes where. :)
