Actually I can't do any modding for a few days now, because thanks to
SI I can't open Oblivion.esm in the old CS. If I use the new CS that
can open it, then you guys won't be able to use it unless you too have
the new CS. I should have renamed the file first, but I honestly didn't
think Bethseda would be stupid enough to just have the expansion edit
the old esm. I thought they would have done what everyone else does and
made an additional esm. *sigh*
Can the old esm be hex edited like you do with a DLC esp so the old CS can read it?

To fix this problem you need to make a back-up of the Oblvion .esm and
use that as the masterfile in place of the OB .esm, then once you are
finished, in the hex editor, change the filename dependency to
Oblivion.esm. To edit it again, you need to change the file name in the
hex editor again, otherwise you will find it will then become dependant
on the OB SI version (Which is why you have to be certain you are
finished first).
The Old CS, can still open new CS files (I think), and everyone should
update to the new CS anyway, nothing stopping people that don't have it
from getting it from the ES site

Use the new CS, it's backwards compatable with the old one so people without SI can still use it.
I've been doing Riften with the new CS, but it still loads fine with the old master file.

I've heard bad things about the new CS, there's a big thread on the CS forums at ESF with bugs etc =(
Which should I do, just get the new CS, or do the hex edit method (which you will need to explain to me in greater detail lol)?

The method is detailed in the ST FAQ area.
And get the new CS, it has fewer bugs than the old one, with new features.

The new CS isn't any buggier than the old one in my experience, I havn't really been able to tell the difference.

Righty-o then, new one it is
EDIT:
Oh one last thing, can you guys try opening the preview of an NPC (you
know, doubleclick an NPC in the NPC list to bring up the box where you
change stats, inventory etc) and tick the 'full' preview box (or 'head'
I guess)...and tell me if they still work, because apparently it's
broken. |
All preview windows are broken for the CS. I believe I say somewhere
that Beth will be releasing an update soon to fix it (As unlike other
problems, it is a rather large one).

They were half broken in the old CS anyway...you had to close the
window for any inventory updates to show up on the preview model. I
guess I'll just have to place the NPC in the world and delete it and
clothe it and place it again, rinse and repeat when I'm playing
dressups. Still a pain though.
