Idea: Hostile Barbarian Settlements |
|
I was sitting and thinking while working on the redwoods, I had just
put down on a bandit camp, and it made me think back to those rogue
ashlander camps from Morrowind, or even the inhabitable ruined
strongholds (once you killed off the baddies at least). It then occured
to me, why not do something kidn of like that with Skyrim. We could
have hostile barbarian settlements scattered around the game world,
these wouldn't be very complex, just a Chieftain's long house, a couple
of huts (maybe retexes of the ones Psych is making for the crannogs?),
all surrounded by a palisade wall. These wouldn't be very common, just
a few in the rugged outer-reaches of each hold, but they would add an
interesting challenge for the player. |

Yeah, I like the idea!
Something like small totally self-sufficient clans that don't want
anything to do with anyone... like crazy rednecks that shoot at people
who trespass on their property.

It's a good idea, although the Rift itself is a bit too built-up and
cosmopolitan for barbarian villages. The area above the Rift between
Vernim wood, Pagran village and Dragon wood would be perfect though! |

Maybe have one high in some Mountain in an Old Ruined Castle and it
could involve a neat quest of stopping him before he starts pillaging.
Also what about Reavers I always liked them maybe they could have their
harbour somewhere in online the North Shore.

Good ideas Ebonyknight, I really like the idea of a secret Reaver port
somewhere. Also maybe we should have the barbarian settlements send out
scouting and raiding parties that actually have organized movement
paths around the game world, not just random wanderers, but guys that
actually move out of the settlement and steal/pillage, then come back
with their trophies. On top of that, maybe we can occasionally have
reaver ships spawn and their crews off of the coasts. |

ship wrights, weapons, and of course the Master Reaver.

There are a couple of islands directly east of Solitude, they would be perfect for a secret Reaver port/settlement.

Yes, say the reavers attack you on sight but the shop keepers when talked to tell you to blow it else where

Would be cool if you could join a group though. Always irritated me how
I could not join a group of bandits in Oblivion. Maybe it was because I
wasn't a Redguard, khajiit, Dark Elf or Wood Elf.
One thing though was that lore supported the ashlander aggressiveness
in that they historically raided House peoples for supplies and
whatnot. Perhaps its just me, but I think if Skyrim is pushing into
other territories (Morrowind and Solstheim), their troops most likely
have crushed any such openly hostile settlements in their own lands.

Cool idea!!! I likes it!
It?d be very cool as you suggested Siegried that they actually go out
on raids occasionally, cuz I suppose thats what they?d be mostly be
living from right?
I can see some miscellaneous quest looking something like:
You get to some remote village where sturdy Nords live their hard daily life. Life has been even harder lately
due to some barbarion raids recently, they?ve been stealing cattle, burning and taken their women...
So a few brave young men have volunteered to go to the bottom with it and the chieftain asks if you want to join..
And then you go along with these young brave nords to put an end to
these raids, and maybe rescue someone who was captured in one of the
raids.
There could also be some twist, like one of the villagers has been
helping the raiders by opening the gates and letting them in or
something in exchange for money. And when you get back to the village
you don?t just get to put the barbarian chieftains head on a pike for
all to see. You also get to point fingers on the traitor and see the
villagers stone him to death or something
Oh well, it?d be cool without the twist as well...
