Those quotes comes straight from the CS for TES IV. It is listed under tamrielgateresponses.
-There is grave news from Skyrim. From falkreath to Windhelm, the foul deadra attacked the land.
-I hear all of Skyrim is under siege. The daedra lay waste to the Old Holds, and there is little to do to stop it.
-There are foul tidings from Skyrim. The Greybeards speak of the end of all times.
What will you do with those events? Nothing or make it not bad after
all. Could this be the reason why the Nords are invading Morrowind.
Will the player be able to close the oblivion gates there? |

Sounds cool!
I don't know anything about the greybeards, so they just could be some rambling prophets or so or some spiritual councilors.

The greybeards are something like monks/prophets/wisemen; they are
indeed the spiritual leaders of Skyrim. They live in silence on the
Throat of The World (the highest mountain in Skyrim). They live in
silence because their voices are so powerful they can destroy whole
mountains with a word (which is sort of weird since that rumor says
"The Greybeards speak of the end of all times").

They spoke with sign language of course. And you can't say that's not
speaking, otherwise I'll drag you before the UN Human Rights comission.
Ha!

Uh uh, you just gave me a cool idea!
What if the Greybeards can write runes with their fingers directly ON
the air by using some sort of magic... you know, like magical runes
made of light hovering in mid air.
We will never pull it off of course but it's still cool.
Actually for the player to have any conversations with a Greybeard the
only realistic options are to make the conversations telepathic (just a
voice with cool effects without lip synchronization) or to simply say
that they can speak with a normal voice when necessary (which I think
is a lame solution because the notion of them being so powerful they
don't have a normal voice is awesome).

Why can't they just be like everyone else and write on paper and stone
lol? I don't know any of the Skyrim quests but I gather that the player
will need to speak with them for quests (and don't spoil it for me I'm
just a worldbuilder!)
Or I guess they could be telepathic. But I think perhaps something like
they leave written instructions, or hand them to you. I mean they're
probably not the most interesting men to hold a conversation with
anyway so maybe they *could* just hand you some instructions and send
you on your way each time you need to do something for them. OR perhaps
they have someone they speak through...kinda like an interpreter

Or if you attack one on the mountain they're on, they yell, and a
rockslide comes down the slopes to kill you, and it will be a loud,
booming voice that will blow your computer's speakers.

Yes, I like that idea. Say the Greybeards are able to talk to each
other in a voice only they can hear, but they choose a normal person
who has the special talent of hearing that voice as an interpreter.
That way we get to make an interesting interpreter NPC with a creepy
sounding voice!

Or maybe they can actually speak through other people... or through creatures

If the are so powerful, why couldn't stop they the invasion of skyrim? By bringing a mountain down on some oblivion gates.

That would probably cause more problems than it would solve, I mean,
how many Nords would be killed by the mountain? And really the Daedra
would just end up summoning new gates on top of the moved mountain. |
