I’ve made an armor mesh and texture in 3ds max 9 of a chainmail
hauberk. problem is I just can’t seem to get them to show up in
oblivion. I could use a little help in getting them in the game. I plan
on completing a full line of Nordic equipment as that is all I am
interested in as equipment goes.
All armor and weapons I create will be historical accurate seeing as I
am a blacksmith I find reality much more appealing then fantasy.
All files when done will be for exclusive use in skyrim for oblivion that’s if you find them adequate.

Well basically I make things for people that have way to much money…..
I make railings, fences, gates art stuff and sometimes knives and swords.
My website sucks because it was made in haste and has never been updated so none of my work is on there
A railing I made:

Nice looking railing, and welcome to Skyrim
I'm not an expert on modelling, so I'm not quite sure what the problem
was. I do however remember running into trouble after tampering around
with an armor in Nifskope, it wouldn't show up in game. It was
something with the Nodes I believe, I could be wrong though. |

I think there are a few good tutorials on the CS wiki regarding
nifskope and armour. That's where I went when I had trouble getting the
Falmer cuirass I made in-game, ofc I had totally screwed up when
rigging it, so it actually looked better when it was invisible... never
did get that damn thing working properly. |

Wow I hate rigging…. Almost done the armor but I'm having a hell of a
lot of trouble rigging the chest. I may have to learn how to use
blender to do it…… thats my progress report.
Edit 2008.03.22 04:46
From 3ds max to blender lol
Edit 2008.03.23 02:57
Ok rigging is perfect just cleaning the mesh making it better.... so it will be done soon (3 days)

I didn't even know armour would need to be rigged...though I suppose
for the crouching and horse mounting animation and things like that.

What do people normally do? Considering there seems to be a petrifying
fear of rigging even the simplest things in the ES community (something
to do with lack of an exporter or something from what I gather so far)
I'm guessing it's usual to just use Beth's rigs?

Well for armor you need rig it to one of Bethesda's skeletons (or just
part of one, like the torso for cuirasses and whatnot), so the mesh
deforms accurately when the skeleton moves in any way. Get it wrong and
the mesh will deform in weird ways when you move. IIRC animation is
what everyone is terrified of in the mod community, none of the
exporters can currently export that, but blender can import and export
all the stuff you need to rig armor and clothes. |

That's good to know. I've tried to pick up modeling and texturing myself before, and man, is it tough stuff.

Wow, looks great! Just post it as an attachment to a post, if it's too
big you can either upload it to a file-sharing site, or email it to me
- my email address is on my profile. |

just to update you all I'm fixing small things on the mesh and texture.
I relaxed the mesh on and around the arms and skirt to make it flow
alittle better. I'm also fixing up the textures too. you can see in the
screen shot that iv made the inside of the chain skirt fur so it
matches the fur lining. I'v just got a rigging problem to fix on the
arms its not a big one but its causing a vertex to jut out in the
middle of the sleve when bent. and a retexture on the bottem part of
the sleve I think the fur could look better.

That is an excellent looking Haubergon. It is exactly what I envisioned
my first Oblivion character wearing (a mercenary). However, vanilla
didn't have it so I changed to furs (since the long sleeved and odd
chested maille cuirass in the game isn't quite right to me).
Very nice. Maybe you would consider remaking the Bearskin armor from
Solstheim when you are done with this fine project? (Sorry, I can't
help but try and plug).

the word brynja is usually translated as "mail shirt". In a few
instances, the word spangabrynja is used, usually translated as
"plate-mail", such as in chapter 5 of Grćnlendinga ţáttur.
Ok this was my intent when I started this armor. It is a coat of plates
over a mail brynja. So it will be called "Nordic Spangabrynja"
Iv also desided I will make other armor along with helms greves, gloves
and boots. I will also make the armor for the gaurds if you like, And
will make weapons and shields to match.
I will upload the armor today and it will be found on Agnar the unwavering.

For the town guards, we already have some custom shields with
appropriate textures for our guards-- I think Alasdair can't point you
in the direction of those (if not I can dig them up). If you can set
up/adapt the emblems on those shields to your Spangabrynja, then that
would be perfect. |

So I've almost finished a helm... I'll post pics of it soon.
send me the textures so I can put them on the armor and i'll get that done hopefully for the next update.
after the texture is done for this helm I'm going to start on an axe
but if anyone would like me to do something else first just ask. |

Shields 01
Shields 02
When I went through our files, I found we had two separate folders of
shields. I am fairly sure that we only need "Shields 02" placed on the
armor. I uploaded the other one just in case Alasdair has plans
otherwise. Just a warning, it'll probably be tricky getting the emblems
onto the armor. |

IIRC it's actually shields 01 you want from those two.
Shields 02 are the ones Ghogiel made, while shields 01 are the ones Psychotic made for the town guards.

That's fine if you go ahead with the axe (will it just be an axe, or
will you do a complete weapon set later?) The only thing I would really
ask for before doing the axe though is an upload of the helmet and
cuirass so we can bring them ingame and start using them on NPCs. |

now restarted it 3 times (mesh up) and will add the guard textures to
the armor next and then do the axe and it will be part of a weapons
set. |

It's an unrigged vertex. Any vertex that isn't rigged will stay in it's
initial position instead of moving with the animations, thus giving
that sort of effect (though often it's much worse). |

This guy in fact works as a blacksmith, and trained under my dad, he
now uses the front of his shop to do work. My dad as a blacksmith has
made a good business out of it, selling railings, suits of armor, etc.
