creatures... like a drunken mudcrab... or Dreugh... or Daedra, etc. |
We haven't really gone into this much(but it is certain they will be
creatures, because of the skeleton issues with making it an Npc), but
with the discussion that has taken place it is either going to be (or a
mixture of):
* Using a totally scripted system, which would be cool, but would mean
a little more work (however not as much as you might think).
* Using a "Slave" style of talking (E.g. a Sload brings around with
them a "pet" slave, of which through telekenesis the Sload talk through
the slave to the player. This would also be used as an excuse of how
the Sload writes, which we have conflicting lore on).
* Using a system where an invisible Npc is placed where the Sload is,
so that it zooms into the Sloads head, and the Dialogue is done
normally. However there is several problems with this method, one being
the lag if there is more than 3-4 Sloads that are set like this (in
cities it is differnt because the Sloads probably wouldn't care to talk
to the PC anyway) in one area, another being that the head in Dialogue
wouldn't be animated.

I see... perhaps all three can be used for flavor... I mean a few
scripted ones... a few Sloads maybe will not speak or cannot speak
Cyrodiilic and use a slave.... and I guess some will look ya in the eye
and talk right?
I guess if Vvardenfell's gonna have a Drunken Mudcrab merchant we're gonna have to get clever

How about some sort of plagued Daedra/Humaoid for Namira's realm, and
fighting it gives you a high risk of catching any random disease?

Another idea:
For Meridia's Realm while we're on it somewhat, how about different
looking Will-o-the-wisps that each hit for a different effect. I'm
pretty sure Meridia was the one with the special light stuff, so I
think that would be pretty cool.
What would it be like if you walk into a room, and there's a red beam
of light in the middle. You walk closer to that red light and all of a
sudden a bunch of red clusters of light rush at you and hit you with
fire damage. And in a different room there's a blue beam of light and
out of it come a bunch of blue clusters of light that hit you with
frost damage.

Or, otherwise, when you fight the shadow beast in whatever dark room
you're in, there are black ones that help it out and we only need to do
those, so you'll eventually have a bunch of midget shadow beasts and
dark little puffballs all trying to kill you.

Do we have any concepts for the Shadow Beast?

In that case we don't even need new creatures. We can just do a shader
which will give it an overlay texture, kinda like how ghosts work, but
it can be solid. It should be a unique looking creature though, I'd
like to see that.
