The Great Apes of Valenwood
The Great Apes, or Imga, are native beastfolk of Valenwood. They see
the High Elves as their lords and masters, and as a portrait of an
ideal, civilized society. Great Apes go to desperate measures to
emulate the High Elves: they wear capes, practice with the dueling
sword, and attempt to speak with perfect enunciation and courtly
manners despite their gravelly, baritone voices. Each Imga bears some
kind of title, be it Baron, Duke, Earl, or the like, which they use
when addressing the members of the Thalmor (needless to say, there are
no landowning Great Apes). More extreme Great Apes shave their bodies
and powder their skin white to seem more like the High Elves. They
often cut themselves in the process, creating the truly pathetic
picture of a naked white Ape, skin dotted pink with blood, strutting
around the trading posts of Valenwood with mock nobility. The Imga feel
that humans are beneath them as lesser beastfolk, and pretend to find
their smell exceedingly offensive - a Great Ape holds a perfumed corner
of his cape to his nose when Men are around.
Also imga dont like the taste of mead ale wine....
this isn't 100% with the other but:
In a tavern in Falinesti, I was introduced to a simple peasant dish
called Kollopi, delicious little balls of flesh, thick with spices and
juice, so savory I asked the proprietress whence they came. Mother
Pascost explained that the Kollopi were an arboreal rodent that fed
exclusively on the most tender branches of the graht-oak, and I was
fortunate enough to be in Valenwood at the time of the annual harvest.
I was invited to join with a small colony of Imga monkeys, who alone
could gather these succulent little mice. Because they lived only on
the slenderest branches of the trees, and only on the ends of those
same branches, the Imga had to climb beneath them and jump up to "pick"
the Kollopi from their perches. Imga are, of course, naturally
dexterous, but I was then relatively young and spry, and they let me
help them. While I could never jump as high they could, with practice,
I found that if I kept my head and upper body rigid, and launched off
the ground with a scissors-like kick, I could reach the Kollopi on the
lowest branches of the tree. I believe I gathered three Kollopi myself,
though with considerable effort. From "The Red Kitchen Reader"

Nice find Krisi. Don't understand the whole changing the title, but
nice find nevertheless. I am going to post a Kollopi Dev thread, post
the Kollopi info there aswell.

I bet not ALL Imga emulate High Elves... I bet it is only the more
exposed opulations... the ones living deep in the inner Valenwood... I
doubt they care much for Altmer at all... probably just like in their
own "savage" culture |

well the only people writing books about them are
Imperials... who probably don't like apes... and don't like Altmer...
and saw a few apes emulating Altmer... and so viola....
except most Imperials don't go too deep in the forests... where MOST of the populations are...

definitely... I doubt Bosmer and Altmer like Imga at all... and frankly
Imga don't like them all that much... but I bet they have a grudging
admiration for Altmer... or maybe they do it all just to ridicule them,
maybe that is their culture, to make fun of their enemies...

yea but Imga aren't really geographically close to
Altmer anymore... most Altmer don't live on mainland anymore... and now
Altmer use mostly goblins... not that they like them but they realize
their potential... |
