Transportation of Valenwood |
|
I wanted to do a Morrowind style transportation system. With giant
birds and more primitive Imags as the main two types. We could have two
more like caravans for all the places that are NOT in the woods (many
Catha-Ray (sp?) raiders about there) and ships because there are amny
port cities in Valenwood.
What are your thoughts on this guys and gals?

RE: Transportation of Valenwood |

Yeah I presume you mean shouldn't, I was thinking of doing the same as
Elsweyr and not makng the player icon show up (well we kinda have to
since we are sharing a map.) So the player has to navigate via
landmarks or pure luck. I think that would add to immersion and would
give the player second thoughts about traveling into that big bad
forest.
But if he wants that uber weapon, he better get his ass moving. Oh and
one off topic thing, what would you say about our mod using SI (Split
Infinity) there like over 100 thousand weapons (and it should be pretty
usefull for decorating special dungeons with uber hard to get weapons
that the player has to traverse the dangerous forest to get to).
Well those are my ideas anyway.

Exactly why I say we should use SI. We could always load them up and
eidt them to our liking. And since there are over 100 k there is bound
to be much inique ness (we don't have to use all of it). And you
shouldn't have deleted those models. Just sent them to someone who
knows how to UV map.

Using exterior mods kind of weakens the wow factor. I say keep modeler hunting, if we need to we can use SI, but not yet.

Sure we will put markers, but, I think both DA and me want to make
people get lost while wandering through jungle/forest (I say think
because it has not been discussed for a while) so we remove the player
marker and make them find their bearings via land marks and compass
(now it will have a real use).

I agree that is a cracking idea!
Any plans on what kind of landmarks and how many? Sanguine takes the
form of a wood elf doesnt he? Could be one or two shrines to him deep
in the forest

Well I orriginally heard the idea from DA, so all applouse to him.
Landmarks would be something obvious and hard to miss, like mountains,
the graht oak forests, falinesti, silvenar etc. I can't think of
anything smaller, because that would require the player to find it
first.

also trees for as (inset something strange here).. and some should be
small.. most Bosmer whouldnt know all landmarks around and might only
know of small ones.. witch they tell you where to go to find and where
to go from..

But they would not really be landmarks if they were not already on your map.

Yes but it can't be something obscure or small, otherwise how is it to be found?

But how can a Tree be a landmark in Valenwood (unless it's Falinesti).
And it would have to be a funky shaped rock to be a landmark. My point
is it's best to have a couple of landmarks on the map, and leave the
rest for the player to find.

well a even Valenwood dont have trees everywhere.. a tree who dont look
like the rest would do.. and a proper descripion on how to get there..
trees should only be places where it isn't fully as many as elsewhere
and mostly for hard thinking quests..

Or ruins of some kind. Maybe the ruins of a burned Bosmer town etc. Or from an ancient Altmer settlement.

Well those would be dungeons, that are found and marked on your map after exploration. Like vanilla OB.

Should be good with just a few landmarks, quests could give you
directions like back in Morrowind whereby you actually stuggle to find
your destination!
I remember searching for ages to get to 'Milk' cavern for a quest in Ald Rhun.

for a landmark tree you could create a dead tree with vines all wraped
around it or something, that would definatly stand out.

Maybe a little more precise then in Morrowind. Sometimes it was a bit to vague. Like the bandits in Suran...

I cant remember that quest for some reason - was it part of the Theives guild?
I always liked finding my own way with the tough directions, would add
a sense of wilderness I reckon. No doubt the Wood Elves know the wood
well and direct people via landmarks and glades etc.

heh
- you caught my idea = Vines baby, swingin on vines! There might be
Vine Lanes! And it would not contradict Dance in the Fire - as he just
didn't come accross one. Mind you, even if he had, he could never have
used one. And they would be kept secret from outsiders as they might
have a military use...
Actualy I do not want to set permanent limits on travel, but I do want
the travel to be interesting. And I have a couple of threads about lev
and stuff in both Elsweyr and the Common Room. One moment while I find
the links.

Hmm it was a misc. quest in Suran, you could hear about Bandits in the
Hill. Well if I remember correctly. Anyway the directions sucked.

Exactly like those mods that remove fast travel. We just disable it in
our world space and any others we make. It doesn't affect other mods at
all.

That comes in under the Morrowind style travel category. So if everyone can agree, the poll is closed
