Kind of hard to understand, but I get the jist. The elavator, hmm. In
the tree may cause problems, I think small ones that have a little cage
where the man pedals and it goes up of down.
Usually only 2 people can squeeze in. We could have a couple of those
around the place. The platform idea is good, but not have two just
infront of each other, have one on that side of the tree one on the
other side. And as it goes higher up in the tree repeat it, but no so
that each platform is aligned. So thats it's here and there.
The branch briges make sense also. But everything is Falinsti is
supposed to be precarious, and like you could fall through at any
moment, perhaps have nets below each platform?

hard to understand again
The two is on one brach as it go higher there is another and more
branches come onther there is a place for another one... where branches
splitt its easies to have a platform.. and I did add two since it isn't
hard to have on when the brach to either..
I take the Dance in a Fire saying plattform more or less as a elavator
of some kind.. just imagine having people pull people in a basket
down/up for 1gp?!?

I got the imagine that the people were strong, and they needed the
money. We could have local homeless doing that work. Or the people live
in the port (Valenwood has so, so, so very many ports. It bogles me.)

Last time I checked they didn't have a navy either lol. The nords could do it (shouts at Skyrim "Ya, you heard me!").

but in that time by Summerset..) and few Humans at all live in or is it
on?) Falinesti.. I see Nord sea-sick for the first time
while draging a cage with people in it up Falinesti while its walking(not that it is now though)

It was supposed to move very slowly, once the MQ is finished, it may be
possible for it to walk around Elden Grove. It would be cool, or it
could just teleport but that would break immersion.
Eh either way this city has to be made right.

indeed.. hard... to.. make... !
I was thinking Fighters Guild and Mages Guild chould have their bases
sort of inside the trees branch overlooking the whole thing.. Sort of
magic bended house with a stair down inside.. but it would be a killer
if it wasnt outside ,since you chouldnt se the beautyfull view of the
forest of Valenwood.. and if outside it would be strange when raining

Indeed, I am glad for LOD, I think the branches would shield it from rain almost complete.

Falinesti will be in it's own worldspace (We have to make it, unless you want your computer to explode
) So yeah we can pick the type of weather we want in there.

I think that all the houses should have a view of the landscape, so
have a landing above each house perhaps? Oh, and I think there should
be some smaller platforms deep in the tree (the area with the leaves I
mean).

Very nice analysis, it would seem that you take the elevators up to the
crooks between branches which are like the outer suburbs and then you
walk down the branch to the main "plaza" which is a huge platform
attached to the tree.
I have a vision of this which I've drawn, could someone please explain to me where to host the image and how to link to it?
Thanks
Alex
On a side note, how the hell are we going to make a tree city it's own
world space, as we have to be able to see the ground from the tree
branches? If we make it a sort of "giant park" world space with a huge
tree dominating the centre, almost like a snippet of the forest how do
we control entry to the world space?
How about seings as how the city has rooted the elves have thrown up
barricades between the trees that are around falinesti? Or maybe sung
some of the smaller trees into barricades, rangers stand guard etc? |

Try ImageShack or Photobucket. As for the separate worldspace, here is
my take on it: Have the tree (only) on the main landmass. Then once you
go into one of the levels you enter the Falinesti WorldSpace, from here
we use LOD of the main landmass, which should work just fine seeing as
this tree is quite high.

THIS quote is from Dance in the Fire:
quote: |
An intricate network of platforms anchored to thick vines slipped up and down the slick trunk of the city with perfect grace, |
= the lifts are on the trunk.

Assuming that you cannot just jump several hundred feet
out of the tree, what is the problem? The worldspace is entered and
left via the lifts. What will take some care is the views from the city
that have to be sensitive to your location in the tree etc even though
you do not personally 'affect' things outside the city...

Glad you mentioned the 'smaller' trees, many of which
are probably huge by any other standard. In ay other area of Tamriel
barriers might make sense, but not so sure here - we still do not know
why Falinesti has rooted? AAaaaaaaargh , I feel another thread coming
on...
