Prelude: To arms raised, once embracing. |
|
"The political weakness of Valenwood has been evident for more than
twenty years now, and the Bosmer seem resigned to this state of
affairs. The land is considered by most to be a mere geographical
designation without any political purpose. If there is honour or pride,
it is with one's familiy or clan. National feelin, never strong, seems
to have died. The tribal councal has not met decades. Valenwood appears
to be adrift.
And yet there are signs of other forces stirring. The Wild Hunt has
beend sighter for the first time in over five hundred years, although
to what purpose is not yet clear. Falinesti, the "walking city" of
trees, has rooted itself for the first time in recorded history. A new
Bosmer prophet has arisen, known only as the Precursor, who preaches
that the old Forest God Y'ffre is returning with new gifts for his
favoured people. Whether these are isolated events, or signs of some
great change coming to Valenwood, remains to be seen."
Our land is failing...
Mother, can you hear it?
It keeps me awake at night.
The men of the land have spoken their resolve
Yet nothing is becoming of it.
They do not act,
They do not know of the trouble that arises!
How when I was young, you held me so close to you. I felt warmth within
your embrace. But now, though dear to my heart, I must speak in truth.
ven the closest embrace cannot heal my aches.I hurt, these wounds are
deep within our land.
And I am wounded within along with it.
We have been hurt for far too long.

The elven forces lined up at Brandenburg all together, in a formation
consisting of four ranks, or classes of troops; Elven skirmishers took
the front, and would repel any oncoming force with the Eleian Javelins
and defend themselves with light armor, and shields in which many were
family heirlooms as well as smithy specialties, nothing too big due to
their need of mobility, as so the front line fired, that line would
head in the back of the rank, as the second line would wait for the
signal from the commander whether to press forward or fall back. If
they fell back, then they would release a rally of javelins on the
enemy unit, in doing so acting as a buffer for the perusers. To be
honest, it acted as a flawed tactic in many cases, due to the
persistence of speed of many generals, and indeed due to the natural
speed of their opponents to the north, the khajiti, and indeed, for
backup they carried a short sword and a sling or crossbow. The second
unit, the heaviest of the bosmer were the Dalial, or Warriors on
beasts. This unit would have been the majority female, in which the
strength of these melee would be determined by the horses they rode on.
The units carried three, at least standard three, more if they had
taken more with them to battle, long spears, either for piercing or
throwing. Additionally every soldier was admitted a falchion for melee.
The last two of the ranks were both archery units, one mounted for
speed capability, and the final an elite unit called the Feignsiel, a
fearsome group of warrior elites with awesome fighting capabilities,
nearly always in heavy armor, (most of the elites fought according to
their preference) and with a large arching bow, (much like the British
longbow men, except with highly more keen accuracy due to the training
they possessed from birth.) For melee, be it had come to it, most
wielded large legionary weapons, and in that, duel handed weaponry.
These four ranks would be the cause of many victories.

The Minstrel's Lament
Our land is failing...
Mother, can you hear it?
It keeps me awake at night.
The mer of the land have spoken their resolve
Yet nothing is come of it.
They do not act,
They do not know of the stirring storm whose fingers grasp the Forest Canopy!
How when I was young, you held me so close to you. I felt warmth within
your embrace. But now, when the closest embrace cannot heal these
aches, and though you are ever dear to my heart, I must speak in truth.
I hurt, and these wounds are deep within our land.
As the land is wounded, so am I.
We have been in pain for far too long. |
I have done a bit of work on your prelude - I hope you like it. If this
works for you then I will edit it into your original post above and del
this post. Please note that we need an identity to hang this on - a
writer

Two things.
1) The Wildhunt is an ancient ritual that takes several days at least
to complete, taking dozens of souls. That can't be summoned without
notice I think. Further, how do we get reports of it, it destroyes all
it meets.
2) Y'ffre is part of the Elder Grve, he's supposed to have died in the proces.
