Architecture Concept 2: the Flower Buildings |
|
We have 'Leaf Design on the go in Architecture Concept 1, so now what about Flowers?
Can anyone think / do a design for a Living Flower Building to be ground-based?
... and you might consider that the Venus Fly Trap opens and closes in response to touch, so the doors could be automatic!

Thats a great idea! But how do we incorporate locks into that? And we would need new animations aswell.

Doors that take drop of owner's blood to open? No keys here.

Ok, then how do we pick the locks? Perhaps devise a special lock pick for Valenwood?

Yes, something to "stimulate" the lock.

Best way is find pics book of real flowers - or go out into the garden,
someone else's garden, or the local gardening institute, museums,
etc...

Only flower shop here at my place, and if you enter you gotta buy something so that's not really an option.

The sketch to the left is an idea for a door. It opens/closes on
activation by the player. The sketch to the right is an actual house.
It stands on 4 "pillars" The front one is also a stairs to the door.
Building is a giant hollow flower of some sort.

2nd one is great, although I'm also puzzled by doors. What are they actually?

The door is a leaf which folds outward to form a sort of pathway if the pod is elevated I think.
They do look very nice!

That would not work well, 1) New animations would be needed 2) What do we see when the door opens? A black expanse?

The door is indeed a leave, but we can use them as door that teleport
the player to an interior cell, no anymation needed, just a sound.

So you mean use it like a normal door? No folding out? Sure that sounds good

I too really like the look, but I wonder do we want a connection with
the Telvanni mushroom houses, or do we want it to have a more
individual feel? Or both?
As is - Telvanni Style?
The Telvanni connection might not be such a bad thing - it could be
that the Telvanni learned their techniques from the Bosmer - or maybe
distorted and abused the Bosmer techniques...
But then if it is a living flower how do we explain the 'stilts'? -
unless the house uses one like an octopus tentacle to scoop up passing
snacks (see below)
Alternative Ground Hugger?
How would it be if it was flat on the ground, surrounded with its own
rich foliage? It might be that normally this kind of plant is
carniverous, so the door might appear to be part of the surrounding
foliage, and the 'victims' peacefully rooting around wander into the
interesting smelling center where...
... we re-examine the question of the entry: What if there is a small
vestibule inside? Then the inner area is concealed by a second door.
Once you enter the vestibule the 'leaf door' snaps shut behind you, and
the inner door snaps open. If this species came from predators the
speed of the opening and closing would approximate the conditions
essential for transfer from an outer to a separate inner cell/world
space...
... aaaand, as this is Valenwood with the necro-cannibalistic Bosmer,
around the back is a very small door where the plant still actively
very visibly and noisily feeds?
People could have great fun feeding their houses - after all it would
make a wonderful change to have a useful purpose for all those corpses
that we are going to be creating?

Option number one sounds good. However, number two sounds very
interesting, the only problems I can find with it is the whole open,
then close thing. Now we do require new animations, if we use that.

True, guess we have to get recruiting! ah, that's ok, we were going to have to recruit hundreds anyhows.
Besides I think we should look to have loads of different styles to use
for different factions and purposes, and to darn well fascinate! So we
have to get Mormacil and Geonox (they seem to share a style?) and
Arbiter and any other budding artists
to get together upgrading their drawings so that we can use them for the quickie video to attract more talent.
Then we can send the quickie video around to student unions, art
colleges, communications courses and anywhere else frustrated geniuses
or professionals might be tempted...

I'm studying at Utrecht School of Arts, faculty is Art, Media and
Technology. I personally do gamedesign. I think if we have a video I
can find some people

Well here is the discussion / claim thread
Btw, you may not be video oriented, but this is a promo for game design recruitment purposes, so don't be a stranger.
Thinks
we do not even have a title for it yet... hmmmmm....

Upgradding drawings definetly applies for me. I just need to find some time to sketch.
I'd love to take this "telvanni style" and work on it if it's ok with the managment.
