Claim: Tile-set Architecture concept |
|
Priority:
out of 5
Description: We need around 3 or 4 good tilesets, that is perfect for
any of our modding needs. This is open to the imagination but keep in
mind that you are drawing for Valenwood (meaning Bosmer use different
materials rather than the conventional ones e.g. Growing, amber, leaves
etc.).

You need to take note that it is involved of many pieces: Corners, sides, bridges, ramps etc.
Some examples (These were drawn for Elsweyr by Lady N)
http://img100.imageshack.us/my.php?image=elswyruc1bu0.jpg
The problem with this is that Elsweyr has more square architecture, the
main point of a tile-set concept is not show how it will tile and how
we will be able to customize it in-game.
Hope that cleared it up for you, if not please state what you would like me to go into more detail of.

No, no I get it. Hell, that would be hard to draw, at least in VW style.
Speaking of styles, do you have something on your mind?

You do not need to draw it the way Lady did for Elsweyr, that would be impossible for Valenwood.
Something on mind mind? Hmm, no, I'm leaving this one for the imagination
Although as I said, keep in mind you are drawing for Valenwood.

grrrrr - just where in Valenwood is Lothlorien? oops, let my darker side out there, pogolies...
How about something from nature? - ooh yeah, Mormacil has some tree
house and temple designs. The drawing style is very crude, but they
have an endearing clunkyness with their little beaner hats of foliage
on top!
One mome, here is a link
The drawings are on page 7 of that thread.
It did occur to me that this style would be far easier to tile than
some others, in one way, but to work each tile would have to fit
'naturally' with it's neighbour... and in that respect this will take
real imagination.
Another building technique would be to use 'large... ooooh, Arbiter,
you remember your tent, with all the silly little leaves? Maybe they
were not so silly after all... What if you wax or resin leaves into a
flat or curved 'screen'? = could you envisage using them in all sorts
of shapes to create dwellings? Then you need to think what you would
use for main supports etc?
The leaves (of several or varied types) might be arranged into regular
patterns... etc Say you want a pillar in the 'building' = use a living
vertical branch, and have bulgesat top and bottom from which a spray of
small branches grow out at a 75 degree angle down or up, with
growing/living leaves on - which you can have because the leaf-resin
screens would be transparent to light... so it would be like indoor
plants...
Assuming that these Bosmer are totaly in tune with the Forest the
support/decorative living branch and leaf arrangements at top and
bottom of the pillar might be complicated and very precise...
Skirting boards likewise might work the same way.
Bah, why do I waste my genius... let those who see, do and enjoy! So there.
uh, oh - define type =
- your imagination
- symbiotic plant or several plants grows on tree
- tree grows itself into shapes as desired
- add 'dead' material
= sub-categories of dead material:
leaves
deadfall branches
resin
wax
magically created amber (using magic to speed up the process that turns
the natural material into amber) and also the use of magic to
'plasticise' amber into a malleable material. nb, if you try this I
will commission a book to describe the process...
