MG Botanic Garden Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

With a botanic garden(On which design I'm working) It's an old Altmer/Ayleid building, it used to be some sort of garden for mages, but it was lost and when abadoned the mages hid it with a spell. Over time the spelleffect worn off so the mageguild could find it. They soon realised the value of the garden and with the bosmeri controll of plants they started to rebuild the garden. So all the "gardeners" will be bosmermages, maybe a few peasents for the real work. Bosmer will life in planthouses, the peasents in house matching the style of the tower.
I'm done with a sideview, now I need to do the topdownview of the botanic garden. I hope to finish it tomorrow. Now I call it a night, speak to you in the morning.

You are still forgetting to create the plants... and no cheating using Imperial or Morrowind or Hammerfell or High Rock plants either... Eek 1

Also you have not discovered what all the new ways for Bosmer to control growth and plant are... Wink

Sure I got plants, and I can use all Tamrielic plants, that's the point. Almost all plants can be found here. Even the non-native because of the bosmer magic. Way's to control the plants? I would go with meditating and singing. But since that requires new animations, just singing whil shoveling etc.
As for new plants I got 5 here. There all agressive though, but I could make some new. Oh and I got a plantlamp, so 6. And I got Far Cry Wink I think we should make lots of their plants, since they're real plants there shouldn't be a problem with copying Tongue

I finished it. And here it is :D
The garden is devided in 5 different parts. Each has its own flora. So one will future VW, andother plants from the highlands in Skyrim and High Rock etc. At the back, towards the cliff, there could be a waterfall with some more swampy plants. I'm not sure about that though. Inside the tower yoy'll find rare plants form the plains of Oblivion e.g.

The tower itself has windows of a white/light blue crystal. More details can be found below for the windows in the tower.

Ok and here is the real thing:

The treehouses are for the Bosmer wizards/gardeners. The houses are for the normal human gardeners.
In the left upper corner I wrote down an idea in my terrible handwriting. It's about this: Long, long ago this botanic garden was build by eitehr Altmer or Ayleids. They created this garden for studies of plantgrowt. When they abandoned this place they hide it with a spell. Over time the effect of the spell worn of, and a few months ago a lonely mage of the MG found it. The MG immediatly saw the use of such a garden and with the help of the Bosmer sjamans with their special plantmagic began to rebuild the garden. Now you're a high ranking member they granted you this knowledge. But they haven't found all the secrets though... Inside the tower they have found a door to the basement which they can't open. You'll have to do that, with a quest. Inside the basement you'll find an alchemy lab, better then the one upstairs build by the MG. You'll find the source of magic that makes this garden possible. Same crystals. And you find a unique plant with great magic properties and a bunch of spells, about alchemy and plants. You'll leran them by reading notes. And perhaps a staff.

The second picture really inspires me. I'm loving this idea very much. Fortunately at the time of posting this I have asked Mormacil all my questions on MSN, so my post is cut short. The glass roof idea is great, the building has much potential to be really beatiful in-game.

The quest I am liking too, it can be a nice mini adventure for the player. But how do we make it uninteresting before the player finds out what it really is? Consider this:

The Aylied were probably much more powerfull magicians than anything the currnt TES world has. So perhaps because our mages can't make it disappear, they put a huge Illusion over it? Disguising it as any old ruin etc.

Hmm, keep up the good work everyone.

As for the quest of opening the basement:
- Find a key in another ruin
- Go trough a ritual at full moon or something at a special place to get a special unlock spell.

Not that I want to discourage more but that would mean even more models and we already have a lot of work to do as it is not to mention the increasingly large dl size.

The DL size will only get larger, and new models are inevitable. If it's the pods that are bothering you, then don't worry, we should have them soon enough. And remember, these are not priority yet (ruins).

As long as you think its alright I'm all for it. More models means more variety and more fun. Not to mention it would be cool to have new ruins for Southpoint.
