As requested......and I think a second book from a scholarly reaearch would be good too
The Curse of Wealth
A Journal by Louis D?Arville
Edited by Laicus Craven
I still remember the first time I heard about these magnificent coins,
drinking quietly in the Frisky Maid, a run down bar on the docks of
Anvil. The speaker was a Nord, drunk of course, though at least his
tendency to violence was curbed at the time. I will quote what he said
to me as best I can.
?A thousand or so years ago, just before the end of the second empire,
a hero by the name of Donar Thunder-Fist, slew a Daedra that was
rampaging through the province, a great beast of silver, covered in
spikes and roaring flame. It burnt the trees and tore up the fertile
land, and no one knew where it had come from. This creature, known as
Silver Thorn, slew everyone until Donar came along, a Nord of great
stature, who showed no fear as Silver Thorn bore down upon him at the
village of Dun Drumlin, on the coast of Valenwood.?
At this point it sounded like many other tales, but the Nord, whose
name escapes me but had I do remember had red hair, continued:
?Why do you not show fear like your mortal brethren? Spoke Silver
Thorn, his voice the sound of metal scraping bone ?I have spoken to the
Dragon, he has told of my victory, and he has told of your punishment?
replied Donar, and at this Silver Thorn laughed and reached over to
break the Nord in half. Donar held forth an impressive hammer, with two
hands he struck the beast once, twice, thrice, making a sound like a
struck bell, causing those nearby to cower and cover their ears. Upon
the third strike the Daedra tumbled down with a great crack in its
body, from which molten metal spattered around, scarring the hero and
the ground upon which it perished.?
Still it sounded familiar, but I nodded encouragingly to the drunk, who now leaned in close, winking at some shared secret.
?Donar strode over to the body and said something that none of the
villagers could hear, and from the body of Silver Thorn came a keening
sound, as of great grief or fear. The hero then gathered the help of
the villagers, and they dragged the Daedra?s still smoking form into a
nearby forge and proceeded to hammer and crack apart its metal corpse.
He then locked the villagers out and made them swear not to disturb
him.?
?For seven long days this took place, the forge closed off and only a
terrible keening sound that rose and rose in volume until the villagers
elected a man to go and ask the hero to please quit, at that time Donar
strode forth and placed a coin in the elected mans hand, saying he was
done and to pass on his deeds so he would live forever. Donar then
left, taking two horses laden with coin and heading into the forest
paths, never to be seen by the villagers again?
So the idea was that the hero had forged the body of the Daedra
into coins. I promptly thanked the Nord and bought him ale, which I
believe was the reason for the story.
Though the tale was moderately interesting, I of course placed it in
the drunken ramblings section of my memory, but when mentioned in
casual passing to my guild lord a few weeks later he became intrigued.
It seemed he had heard of these coins as well, and collectors were
saying they would pay a thousand septims for a single Silver Thorn coin!
My guild lord sent me upon a mission to find the location of as many of
these coins as possible, procure any if I could and report back. I was
of course honoured to do so but could not help but wish this had not
come about during the winter months.
I set about investigating the coins, tracing any rumour that sounded
feasible, needless to say I was led down many wrong paths and
intentionally misled. At one point I was lucky to escape with my life,
but eventually I did track one down at the family tomb of Aevold,
hidden in High Rock. At first I felt guilt about raiding the property
of the dead, but thoughts of Septims filled my brain. Sneaking past
some ancient spellbound guardians I finally did behold one of the coins
and it was gorgeous! Made of silver it was, with a terrible demonic
face on one side and the benign features of what must have been Donar
on the other. The coin felt warm to the touch, but gave a terrible
chill. It was definitely creepy in the tomb, because I could swear that
the Daedric face held my gaze and snarled at me! I had been in the tomb
for too long and I quickly left, looking forward to the light of day.
More stories of the coins led to dead ends, a whole chest lost at sea,
and coins taken by Daedra attackers, until I heard a rumour of an
Altmer wizard with a coin upon summerset isle. I sailed immediately,
eager to have more than one coin, plus I had been set upon by bandits
three times and was nearly out of travelling money after being caught
in a freakish storm.
The Altmer wizard was quite willing to give me the coin, but gave a
warning as well, claiming the coin was possessed, holding a curse of
misfortune. He looked terrified and exhausted, and retold the tale,
giving the place of the hero to an Altmer. This had been done before
during my investigations, but his extra detail was disturbing. The
village, he said, was now a ruin, cursed and lonely. He had
investigated himself and seen a slowly gathering spirit of some
terrible being that haunted the ruins.
I have had enough; I am heading back to Valenwood and my guild lord.
His last correspondence spoke of a collector with four coins, who
wanted the next two. I feel?.uneasy.
(EDITORS NOTE) These documents were found upon an
unidentified body that lay looted and murdered upon the road from West
Guard to Sky watch. No coins were found.
The village spoken of is not recorded in imperial records and the
?run-down bar? the Frisky Maid closed three years ago, its owner
missing. It is believed the author was caught up in some elaborate
scheme.

With the original idea I think I thought about five......but anyway,
the luck idea is good, if possible I also thought an increase in the
nasties you randomly encounter, I dont know, some sort of
monster\bandit magnet

I once tried to edit my stats to decrease, and my game crashed. what
happens though is when your skill level in anything passes above 255
(excluding magically raised stats) it resets to 0, so something like
plus 225 to make it go down, and then you can do plus 36 to reset it
back to normal?
