All the projects need one at the top of their forums. Just sai9d this
in the pinned common room Beyond Cyrodiil site thread.
Our map should look like our banner .
This is very important for our presentation.
It will have to be an updateable digital image controlled by someone
who is in charge of the overall progress and placement of cities and
such on the heightmap - oops, that rules me out - because it should
clearly show both progress planned and achieved.
Thing is that although those who are directly involved in the major
steps have an idea of what is up, newcomers have very little to go on.
Also when people can see their work being represented on the map they
will be encouraged to do more...
My theory - your response ... do or do not.

Further definition: the idea as a progress / concept map.
If the cartographer works out a flexible system then it should provide
updateable data for everyone working on the project, from highest to
lowest.
Think of it this way: whoever is controlling a project at the moment
usu has to 'make suggestions' and 'create claims' in order to
co-ordinate people's efforts because unless people stumble accross the
relevant threads ...
With a well made overall Concept / Work in Progress Map even newcomers
can also see what is ongoing, and decide if they can contribute, and we
can all link events in one area to the next as the inspiration strikes
with more consideration for our neighbours. The end result should be
that instead of having only isolated quests (which can be fun in
themselves) we will end up with a balance of isolated quests and
co-ordinated events. Which will make our Main Quest a real killer.
If you look at the Beyond Cyrodiil map then there is a 'simple form' of
what is required for this = each area has a roll-over link that can
take you into the next level with added level of detail, and so on.
The rollover 'levels od detail' might be:
- Province (showing the general cultural, political and topographical detail and with links to relevant threads);
- District (showing all locations, but only general cultural/political info with links to relevant threads);
- Town (showing building locations, general purposes and affiliation of the owners with links to relevant threads);
- Building (with all floor plans laid out side by side with links to relevant threads);
- Floor Plan(with live-in NPCs and books, special objects etc, etc with links to relevant threads);
- and NPC character description and links to specific events and quests with links to relevant threads.
It does not have to all be done at once - but once the basic is there
project leaders and 'mayors' can then either add in their bits directly
if you want, or send stuff to the cartographer (or your workhorse/s)
that they want to include ...
If it is possible then we have a 'war map' that beats sh*t out of the
one that Tod and Bethsoft have on the wall in their offices ... and it
will help everyone to see what is really happening and how their ideas
fit in and affect the overall pattern and will get everyone to the
essential info that they need to actually do a good job.
End-product = the project builds itself?

I say this needs to be done with Imageready or a simulair program in
combination with HTML. It's told me ones how to do this, but well I
ain't got the time
But what you want is certainly possible.

Well if the Core likes the idea, maybe we can offer this out - anyone
who can do this competently would be a useful addition to the Vw team.

Anyone who likes map making and HTML.
It's rather like making an interactive web site. Pics + text +
rollovers. Actually you could use the add link above, and separate
(locked for security) threads/posts. hat it should do is encourage new
and old comers to get into a sharing format and work together ...
I did that years ago, but my HTML notes are all stolen, and I no longer have the equipment etc, etc ...
One thing though, it might be nice if there were 'restricted levels in
the map too ... that often sparks interest = you only get in if you
have a serious contribution.
How would you go about advertising for someone to do this?

The ESF isn't exactly the right place to do it I think. Perhaps some websites full of HTML buffs?
