Plant Modeler Required Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

I am looking for somebody to model some Jungle plants for me. I am willing to do the textures but I have never moddeled anything ever. I can do small modifications but that is all.

I have also had another idea which I've breifly tried but not in much detail. Ferns in Oblviion sway in the wind even through they are not made by speedtree. I pmed mmpld who made custom grass meshes sway this is what I got:

quote:
The grass works differently than everything else in the game (that i've encountered) in how the sway is applied, so I don't think it will work for your purpose. Basically the alpha value of the vertex color controls the amount of sway for the grass meshes.

He basically says that grass and ferns work in different ways so he can't help us. My idea was to have the leaves and trunk separate. If the fronds could be made so acrt like the ferns then they can be added to the trucks in the cs and gentle sway in the wind like they should. I have looked at the vertex painting in blender and the colours make sense. I tried to add this the the fronds but couldn't get them to sway. The ferns have a lot of extra data which I will try copying in tommorow. if anyone knows anymore then I would love to know.

Anyway here is the info to make the models from (its a pay for model set):
http://xfrog.safe-ssl.net/PDF/Tropical_XfrogPlants_EN.PDF

The plants i'm after which cant be made in speedtree due to fronds.

They are (for the present Cool )(all sizes if possible). Some of them are very simular just with different textures.
King Palm.I've done this now!
Papaya
Fan Palm. (multi tree models are not required)Important
Banana.

Just models are fine as I can texture although if textures could be done then it will be even better.

Thanks,
Tom

That PDF is a good guide for making some speedtree non frond models. Too bad I can't help you with non speedtree.

Beginning to seem to me that speedtree makes Valenwood impossible, unless we want it to be done with only one species of tree?

Is speedtree really essential for trees? :lmao:

We use speedtree to get animated trees, we could not use speedtree if we could include animations in another way, or just no animatiuon, but a lot of people want animations.

Maybe you could try Onyx Trees. They look pretty good, but aren't animated, you can throw it into CS as nif statics.
However those trees are complex and you have to adjust them to export as nifs. I also don't know how to texture them, I used only onyx bamboo and it looked rather weird in game untextured (textured was'n good either). But that's bamboo, maybe other kinds will be helpful for you.
Sorry for little offtopic - was there any discussion about animated nifs? I mean - is it possible to have for example a windmill in Oblivion?

I've been wrestling with this for a while. I can't seem to open up the Max-SpeedTree plug-in (which is the main problem) but a couple of other ideas I've had don't work either. Perhaps the solution is within the ST program itself.

EDIT: Mirrored, yes it is, it was figured out a while back and there is already an animated windmill in Oblivion :)

I wonder, the CS can't take fronds, so what if we mde the palm fronds as a leaf texture. I think it's worth a try.

Maybe you should consider static trees with very gentle wind-on-leafs effect animation then?

It wont work, ingame the leaf textures always face the player so fronds will looks stupid. Although I never tried setting fronds in speedtree, then selecting the textures in the cs. Although I'm sure renekin tried and i'm sure kingevil did also.

I would love it to happern I can rig onto existing bones but I never creating new skeltons or animations.

Edit: Actually I found a animated palm resource for Morrowind I wonder if I could use that with my palms. I will have a go.

Edit2: Not sure how now. When I inport into blander the moving nodes are not like a armature I know. I'm not sure how to link a node to the object as the morrwind one is not weight painted. I could always use the ready animated one and retexture but how would I import it into the cs. I'm sure its possible but it is not my field of work.
Tom

Wow if I you can get the .spt files from that set that you are a god send. I'm downloading the jungle demo at the present. I'm just really hoping the models can be extracted and are not embedded somewhere 9can you confirm). I still fear the ground plants will have fronds but if someone has the max plugin and can export them as objects that will be great, even though again they will not sway Mad .

Thanks a lot that could be a real help indeed,
Tom

EDIT: The forgotten forest also could be very good.

There are so many great resource packs for Speed Tree, the problem is the cost is up to 1000 and more. I've been looking for them in 'other' places but so far no luck Frown
